Okay now I've received the card and I'm having problems. I had a DSDT but I tried deleting it and rebuilt permissions afterwards, rebooted and no luck.

I am obviously thinking that something else than my GFX is wrong, but have no idea what and how to solve it. Please help. If any of you experts have time you can send me a pm and maybe you can help me through teamviewer/chat or something similar.

Check that you don't have any old nvidia injectors still loading.

5. Installed the fix. Worked this time! Except I got a message during install that ATIRadeon3xxx.kext didn't work on my system (or something like that). Install finished though.

if the ATIRadeon3000xxx kexts didnt install that will be the cause of the problem. You need to get those kexts installed. Try using pacifist to manually extract them from the package and then use kext utility to install them.

Thanks Andy. I did install them manually using Kext utility and well it did something..

Now I don't have display on my Apple Cinema Display (connected using DisplayPort) but when I plugged in my TV using HDMI, I got screen. Plus, my card got shown in System Profiler as 6870! However something weird, when I UNPLUGGED my ACD, the HDMI image was gone too. Plus, the desktop animations were very laggy on the HDMI output.

So.. still no screen on my primary monitor

I suspect the difference is more likely that you are using a totally different version of chameleon - do you know which version you are using - If I can find the correct source code I can probably build the correct version for you.

I think im using rc5pre12. Its whatever version comes on the iatkos s3v2 disc thats chameleon rc5.

Use a different framebuffer - I think Gibba is the correct one (use AtiConfig=Gibba as kernel flag to test it). If that works then I can give you a new boot file.

It worked for me wih a 6870 on a h55m-ud2h; Thanks so much Nuphor and ^Andy^

No need for the framework here BTW.

Cinebench OpenGL is a bit low at 33fps versus double under windows; but MacOS is worth it as long as I don't do heavy stuff.

Thanks again.

I have a very nasty feeling that the iAtkos install method is the problem here - can you try installing the standard chameleon rc5 (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=231075 has some install packages) to see if that gives the exact same problem.

WARNING - Not sure what you need to back up before you try this because if that causes the same problem you won't be able to boot!

I filled in AtiConfig=Gibba at the Chameleon bootloader to test it (that's possible, right?).

Didn't do the trick however, still black. Any other framebuffers to test?

You are also using GraphicsEnabler=y ?

so at boot you are using GraphicsEnabler=y AtiConfig=Gibba ?

Then I fill in AtiConfig=Gibba at Chameleon 2.0 RC5 r699.

That's the problem then - you aren't using the version of chameleon that I built - The version I used is RC5 r750 !!!!

Try manually replacing your boot file with this one http://www.mediafire.com/?twdqa454new3ay6 (back up your current boot file and make sure you have a working boot cd in case you can no longer boot after replacing the file).

Is it possible that it is my systemboard that causes this problem?

/Rasmus

It's unlikely - do you have a spare hard drive that you can do a clean install to? If so I would suggest doing so and seeing if the performance increases. If it does then you know that it's something on your existing install thats causing the problem.

Yes, I am actually already doing that at the moment. I am installing from a Snow Leopard image to a formatted drive. What do you suggest I install after the update?

Replaced the boot file. Chameleon r750 is being displayed as version. Entered AtiConfig=Gibba but still no screen. Could the Apple Cinema Display be the problem?

Install the bare minimum, get the install to a point where it can boot cleanly and then install the 10.6.6 combo update (ignore 10.6.7 for now) then the ATI Upgrade Package and check your cinebench results.

I can't really comment because I don't own one but there are other framebuffers you can try..

Pithecia

Bulrushes

Cattail

Hydrilla

Duckweed

Fanwort

Elodea

Kudzu

Gibba

Lotus

Ipomoea

lol I know the feeling, I spent way too many hours reinstalling whilst building my P8P67Pro package - part of the reason i built it and the boot cd. Then once I had it all working fantastically with a 6870 I went out and bought a 6970 so now am screwed again goddamnit lol

Yay! "Duckweed" seems to work. 6870 shows up in System Profiler, DVD Player works. Thanks man! :D

Only minor issues i still seem to have is the desktop animations not being that smooth. For example the "fan" effect in the dock and Spaces overview (F5).

Would it be of any use to test the other framebuffers?

Defnitely even if just to build up some sort of list of which cards and ports work with which framebuffers!

Nope. "Duckweed" is my savior for today. Rest doesn't work. Thanks again Andy.

No problem - glad you got it sorted!

Hi @injectxnl and @^Andy^,

From my experiment with suggestion from @altee, I found that we can put any incorrect value then driver will auto select working framebuffer.

You should try this :

- Connect as many displays as you can

- Use AtiConfig=RadeonFramebuffer

And see which personality the driver select in ioreg. In my case, using this method, Gibba is selected and give me 2 of 3 ports working without patch anything.

Okay so I have some good (and funny) news. I reinstalled completely to a new drive, got it booting with minimal kexts and andy's drivers. To my great frustration I didn't get any improvement at all. However - I then tried something I hadn't yet, I changed my card to my other PCI-E port. And guess what, it did the job. I have absolutely no idea why the hell that'd make a difference, cause it doesn't in Windows.

Just played some WoW and it's perfect, now I'm just a tad annoyed that I don't have the 6870 instead :) Thanks a lot for all the help to all of you, I will follow the thread and help where I can.

/Rasmus

The Chameleon installer totally hosed my machine, no ability to fix it. Going to have to build from scratch again. Might attempt installing with something other then iATKOS like a retail install but not tonight. Too much stuff going on.
