Swad
Rejoice, Master Chief fans – Macsoft yesterday announced the availability of a universal Halo. While it’ll almost certainly be a few months before the unibin is available in stores, owners of the PowerPC version can download the universal update disk for a whoppin’ 5 bucks. The full (older) version is USD $30. From MacGameStore, The full download is 650 MB. This download is only for the North American English version of Halo. During the checkout you will be asked to supply the CD-key that came with your original Halo CD. Please look for this CD-key before making this purchase as it is required during the checkout. Once you have downloaded the Halo UB disc image, you will need a blank CD disk to burn the Halo Universal Binary CD. Use Disc Utility (found in the Utilities folder on your Mac) to burn the Halo UB image you downloaded. Please note that using a utility other than Apple Disc Utility, such as Toast, will not work. As always, let us know your thoughts when you get it!
Colonel
I'm glad to see the universal version finally come out. I was starting to wonder if they were even working on it at all.
sandmanfvrga
Ok, ok. I have the FULL pc version (no pirating). Will this work for me?
Weebs
Well it seems to work with Call of Duty 2 and Unreal Tournament 2004, when you buy it from a certain online store (I can't remember which) it asks you for your serial, and if it's a good serial it will allow you to buy t he game and download so that way you can check before you waste $
Swad
sandmanfvrga - You might call them and see if you can get a deal on a cross-license. Otherwise you'll probably have to buy a new one.

So does that mean all you need is a valid serial number for Halo for Mac? You don’t actually need an original version installed on you Mac itself when installing the universal update disk? While it’ll almost certainly be a few months before the unibin is available in stores, owners of the PowerPC version can download the universal update... Also I’m sorry but I’m newish to Macs but would this only work with PowerPC as it seems Mash is saying or will it work with an Intel Mac too. (i.e. MacBook/ MacBook Pro)
ѕӎѳѳ₮ңӌ
Also I’m sorry but I’m newish to Macs but would this only work with PowerPC as it seems Mash is saying or will it work with an Intel Mac too. (i.e. MacBook/ MacBook Pro) You download that if you have the powerpc version to convert it to a universal binary. Then it will run on intel macs at full speed
Mebster
You download that if you have the powerpc version to convert it to a universal binary. Then it will run on intel macs at full speed So there's two types of software out there for Macs. Power PC ones that run on Power PC macs and Universal that will run on Power PCs and Intel Macs? Is Universal version software a recent concept as intel macs came out only a little while back? (Is there actually a Power PC and a different Universal version of Halo for the mac?) sandmanfvrga
There are two types of apps: PowerPc Apps Universal Apps PowerPc Apps are written in PowerPc code and run FULL SPEED on a PowerPc Macs, BUT run emulated with Rosetta on Intel Macs thus running slower. Universal Apps run at FULL SPEED on BOTH PowerPc and Intel Macs. Right now the Intel Mac users are looking for all the Universal Apps they can for speed. Colonel
I still want my Linux native version!
Neonkoala
Some of the core operating system files are Intel only which puts a third category of apps available, albeit a very limited one. Take a look at System profiler.
Mebster
sandmanfvrga thanks a lot. That really does help my understanding. Just one question though. When exactly did universal apps come out? Was it after the Intel macs? I just don't see why they would come out before as PowerPC apps were running fine (I assume) on PowerPC computers. sandmanfvrga
Universal Apps came out after Intel Macs came out. Didn't need them before, it was all PowerPC.
