Rene204
Thanks for these two suggestions Rene204—sadly neither work. Still get colored spinning beachball as screen changes from verbose scrolling to OS X installer.Verbose shows no errors, KPs or anything to give a hint of what is preventing install screen loading. ##### is 1.5a—maybe I should try another version? had the same Problem, these two tips solved my Problem... ummm... you should try this.. have a look for the permissions on the installer partition. permissions should be: "system wheel everyone.. ignore Ownership is UNchecked." move to S/L/ open Information on Extensions-, if the Permissions loke above, at the bottom go to Options (the Tooth-Wheel?), click on Apply to all Subfolders. If needed, type your Password, and ok. so, these Permissions are set to all Kexts in the Extensions-Folder, FakeSMC.kext too. try reboot and look, it that works.. rlf
Why still all these workarounds ? Use newest boot from Netkas Using netkas' boot, some people are able to boot 95% of the time without a double panic. Others, like me, are able to boot 0% of the time without a DP. We have no choice but to use workarounds. @newnekton1 Delete the kernelcache on the target installation partition. That always got rid of the spinning beach ball for me. I'm running my triple (7 x64/Snow/Lion DP2) using ##### to handle the Snow and Lion partitions. I'm entering this from my Lion DP2 partition via Firefox 4 RTW (with iTunes playing Mary Mary's "In the Morning" in the background and the Starcraft II Mac demo downloading in addition). Lion DP2 is turning out to be a surprisingly capable (for a Developer Preview, or even for a normal-usage) daily-beater OS, and most of the quibbles are *just that*, even compared to Snow. PGHammer
Help please install the DP1 achieved without problems, but now I want to install the DP2 everything goes fine until I choose the installation language to the next step would be to select the installation disk, I get on screen because I can not install the Lion that if I want to restore with time machine, and no longer goes from there,Where is the fault Thanks Check for two issues known to occasionally get missed: In the /System/Library/CoreServices folder. delete PlatformSupport.plist (it's the only plist that needs to go). In the /System/Library folder, delete the Cache folder (the entire folder). For the first, it would be both in your source (installer) partition in that location and *possibly* in the target partition as well (if the install/upgrade completes, and you're doing your post-install reboot into the upgraded Lion - that's the issue that bit me). Second, if once you delete the /System/Library/Cache folder from the installer partition, do not use the -usecache flag when mounting the partition or running the installer. Lastly, make sure that fakesmc.kext is copied to /System/Library/Extensions of the installer partition. (I'd also copy any other necessary kexts to the same place, especially graphics enablers, such as NVenabler and ATI5000Injector - the last is critical for Mobility HD5xxx support in 10.6.5 and later, including Lion's DP builds. Fortunately, you don't need the other items included with the package that ATI5000Injector includes, such as the BIOS image or other modified kexts with Lion; you don't need any specialized bootfiles, either.) rlf
install the DP2 everything goes fine until I choose the installation language to the next step would be to select the installation disk, I get on screen because I can not install the Lion In DP2, Apple installed some checks in OSInstall.mpkg that need to be removed. It checks whether you have a correct Apple machine and that you have a GUID partition scheme among other things. You need to modify OSInstall.mpkg to remove the checks. Or you can use a modified one that was posted (use the "fixed" one) here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1664230

The offending file (shows up post-install) is PlatformSupport.plist, and shows up in /System/Library/CoreServices of your target partition post-install. Reboot (from your install partition) and after selecting your language, go to Utilities, and start Terminal. In Terminal, cd /Volumes/(your Lion target partition)/System/Library/CoreServices ls If PlatformSupport.plist shows up, get rid of it! rm -rf PlatformSupport.plist (you're already "root", so you don't need to sudo) Exit Terminal, and quit the Installer. Now, reboot into Lion.
asapreta
For some unkown reason, the last two days I can't run Lion DP2. I ALWAYS get Double Fault now. Tried to delete the caches but can't boot. Something appears very quicky on chamaleon and it returns to boot selection screen.
Dellmantt
May not work for everyones hardware but works fore mine. Separate drive for Lion with one partition. Chameleon 2RC3 & Netkas boot file. I boot with usecache, -v and arch=i386. If I boot with this combination I am lucky to get a boot without the double panic maybe once every 8-12 boots. I found by accident that if i boot without -usecache of course I get the panic BUT the next boot with it added boots. So I can boot with Chameleon every second boot. rlf
Great! But where is OSInstall.mpkg located? Remember when you set up the install partition by copying over all of the Packages from the Base System? OSInstall.mpkg is in that set of packages. It is the master installation package. Replace (or modify) that package. /Volumes/Mac OS X Base System/System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg
PGHammer
Hello again, I'm writing this message from my new Lion 10.7.Thank you all for such good contributions and especially today to "PGHammer" and "rlf" because so many people who provided their wisdom to all see the LIGHT I changed the OSInstall.mpkg changed and I could install without problems a question. to start the Lion is no other method than the ##### thousand words, because I have to start with-v-x and not charge me the chart. I've put the same kexts that I have in SL and with the same boot.plist but does not work I use the stick because Snow and Lion share a drive (which with the current bootloaders that go on hard drives is a no-no); however, ##### (which is on the stick) supports both. PGHammer
Are you using Steam? My Steam stopped loading after I upgraded to DP2. No; not using Steam. However, given the changes, a reinstall of Steam would be likely needed since the underlying underpinnings (the OS itself) has changed. So far, any game or app I've installed in DP2 has worked; in some cases, better than was the case with either DP1 or even Snow (the Starcraft II demo for OS X is a major case of it working better than Snow; never tried it with DP1). atlee
Are you using Steam? My Steam stopped loading after I upgraded to DP2. Pretty silly trying to use a dev preview as a gaming platform. best to wait till the proper support is there, Steam won't make a client till it's needed. How long is the install taking you guys? Starts off saying 19 minutes to go but ends up taking between 1.5 to 2 hours. yeah 19 minutes, pretty fast install. fastest yet actually. out of all recent OSX's. farhanito
hello.. i'm still having hard time installing DP2 on my system.. here's my scenario; - i'm restoring the basesystem.dmg to an MBR partition on my internal HDD, copy Packages, etc. - target disk is a USB FD (8Gb GUID partitioned) - using XPC bootloader.. booted fine until the Partiton select screen.. - Choose the USB FD as the target, and start installing.. but.. the process always stopped (system crashed, unable to move mouse cursor) checking the installation.log the process always stops here.. Apr 5 20:52:59 localhost OSInstaller[321]: PackageKit: Extracting file://localhost/System/Installation/Packages/BaseSystemBinaries.pkg (destination=/Volumes/LION/.OSInstallSandbox-tmp/Root, uid=0) tried several times, and stopped at the same spot.. i even downloaded 2 copies of installer, but same thing happened.. any idea.. thanx in advance

It is almost like it is running out of disk space when it is expanding the files in BaseSystemBinaries.pkg. Try shaking things up by reversing your process. Put the BaseSystem files and the packages on the USB FD and then try to install to the internal HDD. If that magically works and you still want to run from the USB FD, then you can restore your new Lion installation from the internal HDD back to the USB FD. You have to try something different, whatever you have going on isn't working. tried to boot the DP2 with ##### (as i did befor with DP1 an it worked just fine) i can see the install screen. only problem. the screen is splitted in like, three parts. Yeah right. Use os x as a gaming platform? yeah, right. lol Steam was working fine on DP1, or as best I've seen it on os x. However on DP2 it instantly hangs, and on the re-installed, updated Steam, it hangs. Could be that I've put the GTX460 back in, now its supported. The current client is not Snow-specific; it works in all Intel-based Macs and Hacks (down to, and including, Leopard). The issue with Steam and Macs is QE/CI (which all SteamPlay games so far require on the Mac side), and even that isn't unique to Steam. (I have the Starcraft II Mac demo installed in Lion DP2 and have no issues with it.) Besides, if you have AMD or recent nVidia GPU hardware, you actually have better QE/CI support in Lion than in Snow right now.

But had I tried to do it from a USB stick, I might have been stalled by this check point. It also makes sense when people try to install DP2 to a MBR HD with Windows on 1 of the partitions. Got it. But had I tried to do it from a USB stick, I might have been stalled by this check point. It also makes sense when people try to install DP2 to a MBR HD with Windows on 1 of the partitions. Got it. It was a little more complicated than that. OSInstall.mpkg contains several checks that must be overcome before it allowed installation to take place. The two most important were: a. you must be installing to a certain set of Apple computers, and b. you must install to a GUID partition scheme. To install to MBR, you needed to have a modified installer package. To install to a non-Apple machine, there were two workarounds: a. a modified installer package, OR b. your bootloader needed to inject the right information so that the installer thought you had a suitable Apple computer. The second boot file that Netkas produced had a hard-wired injection to get around that requirement. Certain versions of ##### and XPC could inject the correct information. So, if you used one of those, you had no problems and did not need to modify or replace the OSInstall.mpkg file. A lot of people think it is a no-brainer to use Chameleon RC3 and the second Netkas boot file. But a lot of people are still stymied with constant double KP's when using that combination. I never got a single boot using them.
