Ryanux
you know silent dosent require being passive... my config is ultra silent (the only thing i hear is the HDD which is very silent too...) and i have a 92mm running at 7v. it's cool, silent and performing very well. running a conroe passively means that you must buy a giant heatsink and it would be hot anyway, definitely not a good idea. Inopia
@Ryanux: thanks for the heads up. I think I'll just shop around for a nice silent cooler then. I suppose when it comes to noise the fact that I don't use a seperate videocard will save me a fan
Infamous
E6100? I thought these will be available Q1/2007.

TopazBar
Hello, I've just ordered the ASRock conroe945G-DVI, along with an E6100 and a gig of memory. I'm a hardcore windows user (grew up on DOS and graphics programming), but I find I need a UNIX like environment for development every once in a while. So I decided to give osx a try, after having tried a couple of linux distributions (and hated them all). Osx86 is also a great way for developers to test their code on the mac platform without having to buy one of those expensive glossy computers. In any case, I've been reading this thread and ofcourse I want to thank everybody for sharing their experiences, it will make my life so much easier when I get around to installing OSX. The only thing I was wondering about is cooling. I've been reading these core duos run a bit hot. Is it possible to passively cool them nontheless? I would be interested into making the whole thing run silent. Good choices on hardware! Welcome to the thread, Inopia. Upgrade your BIOS to 1.1 or 1.2 when you get your mobo and post some pictures of your new setup.

alex74
Hello to all AsRockers! Here it is my system up and running for about 15days without a glitch! I'm so happy with this motherboard 99% osx compatible! PS: any news about the integrated Lan controller? Later ppls! a.tiff
TopazBar
Very good. I'm totally satisfied with it, too. I don't even bother with shutdown/bootup. I just use it and when I'm done, I put it to sleep, again and again...very stable and productive.
PhantOS
Ok, got the mobo and the 6300. Put in the 1.10 bios, 2x512 of 533 ram, and I've yet to install anything. I followed the right steps (async, PCIe at 117, ram at 400 with loose timings etc) but it seems that no matter what, I can't boot when the FSB is more than 300. It seems to be that hardcoded limit that all the reviewers complained about. How do I get around that? It's not a cpu limit, the heatsink is not even warm, and I've put arctic silver on everything, and a better heatsink on the southbridge (big improvement there, it was scorching hot before). Do clockgen or setfsb work? This is pretty frustrating. thanks
kurt
Hey, I was just wondering what type of cases all of you are using who have the Asrock Conroe DVI microATX board. ALl of the cases I have been interested in say they only work with ATX and I have only found 1 microatx case, but i would prefer a case that can use both micro and ATX because i wouldn't want to have to upgrade my case along with my motherboard when i decide to upgrade in the future. Are boards that are listed for ATX also compatible with microATX boards? thanks

Are boards that are listed for ATX also compatible with microATX boards? thanks I agree you would want to buy a case that support both ATX and mATX. I have a such case. It support both form factors (ATX and mATX - they have same I/O backplane). Only difference I can see is the extra holes for mATX mobo and unused PCI slots. So if an ATX case says it doesn't support mATX, you can still fit it but you would need to drill some holes. But for my money, check the case spec and get the one that support dual form factor. I'm working on a selfmade case... I will post a few pics of it when its finished! Ah, and its a "cube" 30 cm per side Woooo...I want to see this Can you post pics as they are being made? It would be more fun.
totem
about graphic memory .... im not sure if its possible but if yes ... set in bios Fixed 16MB .... as far as i know the QE in powerPC world needs 32MB so ... if osX use the bios value there should be QE disabled after next booting simplest way to check if QE is disabled is to choose few different widgets from dashboard bar - if the QE is disabled=bios_value works and the water distort effect will not appear ... im not absolutely sure but i think so ;-)
vpvl66
Has anyone been able to run DDR sticks rated at more than 1.8V? I have some 6400 2.1V sticks and the system won't post, not even with HIGH settings in BIOS.
plympton
Hey, I was just wondering what type of cases all of you are using who have the Asrock Conroe DVI microATX board. I bought a "B-stock" (return? refurb?) for an Antec P150. It looked new (a few scuffs - nothing I wouldn't do to it), and is quiet as all get out. Under $100 delivered - including a very quiet, very nice power supply. http://www.antec.com/Detail.bok?no=460 Here's some photos: http://www.freepdx.com/link.php?id=546 -Dan
indiekiduk
I just got my system ! it runs like hell : 133 Xbench result with an e6300 @2240mhz, 2gb of corsair 667mhz ram, GMA950, and a Seagate SataII 320gb. The 320Gb Seagate is very noisy now they are shipping HDs with AAM (acoustic managment) removed because of the pantent issue, you should have gone for the 320gb Western Digital Sata2. Using the Hitachi utils boot cd you can make it completely silent.

But thats quiet reasonable, in a case you don't hear them at all.

Tecnoworld
unfortunately my hackintosh won't boot at FSB higher than 299Mhz, even by selecting 117Mhz PCI-E Asynch why's that? p.s.: in order to install openoffice on my mac, I should use X11. What is that? where can I find it?
TopazBar
p.s.: in order to install openoffice on my mac, I should use X11. What is that? where can I find it? Use Neo Office (mac port of open office). Link is here: http://www.neooffice.org/ Neo Office does not use X11 and is alot prettier (aqua interface) than open office. You can download X11 from apple. http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/appl...1formacosx.html BTW, X11 is standard user interface in UNIX world.
