Istafaan
Hi guys, I've just got hold of one of these Asrock boards after following this thread. Problem is that on power up I just get a short, single beep (memory error?) and no VGA output to my monitor. I'm thinking this is a RAM compatibility issue and was wondering if others had similar issues. I'm using 2 x 1Gb Corsair XMS2 5400 (667) C4 sticks. I've also tried with just one of the sticks in all the 4 slots. Should I go for a different brand? First time poster here, just wanted to put my hand up and let you know that I have exactly this configuration and I've managed to get 10.4.7 working fine. Sorry I can't be any more help than that, but I guess it does help a little to know someone else is using the same type of RAM in the same motherboard! While I'm here, well done to all that have contributed towards this and other threads, I had my ASRock Conroe945 up and running with 10.4.7 in about 30 minutes. Took me a little while longer to get sound and networking functional, but that is only because I had to do some reading! Only thing I haven't managed to get working is my Wi-Fi card, just a matter of finding one that is compatible I guess - I have a TP-Link in there at the moment which is Atheros based - no luck so far. Istafaan PC - ASRock Conroe945G-DVI, E6400, Corsair 2gig XMS2 5400, Pioneer 111, Samsung 250gig SATA II, Ubuntu 6.10 with 10.4.7 as a challenge! Mac - Apple G4/733, 1 gig of RAM, OS X 10.4.
iamgrowler
help... i am new to osx86 and i just setup my new pc with conroe945G-DVI. I got error while i am trying to get the audio work. The system extension "/system/library/extensions/appleazaliaaudio.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update. I have followed this guide exactly (http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/ConRoe945G-DVi), any idea why? Probably because you're in the same boat I'm in, and aren't enough of a geek to figure out how to use the terminal. I accomplished all of the same actions by editing the plist with BBEdit. Just right click on the azalia kext and click 'show package contents'. Worked like a charm for me.

manmal
A new bios for asrock 945g is out ( 1.40 version of 12/4/2006 ) !! I have this great motherboard, but i can't overclock ... i cannot go over 280-285 mhz bus and i tried all possible settings like described in this thread (locking pcie freq to 117 mhz , very relaxed memory timings and so on ) I am on a conroe e6600 + asrock 945g-DVI + 2x 1 gbyte v-data ddr2 533 mhz ram(i have set ram clock to 200 mhz, so that it should not go over 533 at all even overclocking) , add2-dvi pcie card and adaptec firewire pci card connected . I am running my good old 10.4.7 updated from myzar 10.4.4 dvd , but i will try to do a fresh install of 10.4.8 reseed version by jas and latest kernel . Any suggestion on which kernel version to use for our asrock 945g-dvi (latest semthex, that seems the most updated one , mifki and daemonES one ) ? Thanks! Thanks! Mal Last night I tried the latest Semthex one via Prasys installer, and it broke my sleep. Switched back to either the early Semthex or Mifki (not sure which one!). apmos
Hello from Greece! This is my first post. Today I've purchased my AsRock 945G-DVI m/b together with a P4 805 CPU. I also have 2GB of memory from my other pc, so tomorrow I will try to install OSX. I've downloaded Jas 10.4.8 so I think I'm ready. I wanted to ask... cause I plan to install OSX to a dedicated pc, without windows on it... 1) The installation guides found in osx86project.org for 10.4.8 is for dual booting. Is there any guide for single booting? Is there something else I must consider before installing? 2) Is it better to install it on a PATA or a SATA hd? (I have 1 pata and 1 sata formatted and waiting...) Both of them are recognized without any problems?? I'm planning to test the installation on a 20GB PATA drive. Is this ok? 3) I'm confused about the USB Patch. Do I have to check it in the installation or install the patch later? Is it the same? Thanks a lot in advance and sorry for my bad English Apostolos Edited December 13, 2006 by apmos

Thanks a lot in advance and sorry for my bad English Apostolos 1. I have a super detailed install guide for this board. PM me and I will send it to you. It is too long and tedious for this post. 2. SATA or PATA. It doesn't matter. The system will install perfectly with either. One or the other or mixed. Go for the SATA though. The system will be faster (better Xbench). Under normal operation though you will never know the difference. 3. Pre Formatted won't matter. You can handle it during the installation. 4. I never check the USB patch. USB will work perfectly after install. 5. Post Install you will need: DaemonES patch to get the onboard NIC via wire working, Paulicat SMBIOS for fixing "about this Mac", and then I would get Prasys's script for Updating the kernel to beta8 (really helps performance and speed) I will leave the explanation of the USB option to others as I haven't explored it. That should get you started.
apmos
Thanks for the install guide, I've received it. I have a big problem now... Firstly, I have a 40GB IDE drive. I connected it to my other pc with WindowsXP and with Partition Magic I created one FAT32 partition. So far so good. Secondly, I connected the HD to the ASRock for installing Jas 10.4.8. Connected also my NEC DVDR 4551 and booted ok. I erased the partition within the Disk Utility and then created a journaled HFS+ partition. No problems so far. The install went Ok and finished. Within the install I checked "Jas 10.4.8 Combo update", and samthex kernel. Rebooted, and after waiting 20-25 minutes on the screen with the apple and the spinning circle, no go.... Rebooted again, typed -v and it stops at the point wich says "still waiting for root device" I've tried installing many times, erasing the hd again and again and choosing different combinations of plugins in installation (combo 10.4.8 with semthex, combo 10.4.8 with mifki, choosing none of them, etc). I must have installed over 10 times (erasing and creating the partition again and again) but the same.... "waiting for root device". I'm very frustrated. I've spent almost 2 days to make this work but now I'm stuck.... So.. If anyone knows what to do, please help me.... PS. I have my DVDR set as master and my HD set as slave. I've tried also many combos (DVDR as slave and HD as master) and none of them works... Apostolos
Sailfish
Reminder with the JaS 10.8.8 install disk. 1. Checking the Azalia Audio box in "customize" will not result in working Audio. It will put the AppleAzalia.kext into the System/Library/Exensions folder which you then must edit manually. 2. Checking the GMA950 in "customize" has been a sporadic issue in that sometimes it fails the install at the end. Just leave it unchecked and install it off of the install CD after you have completed the entire installation of the OS. 3. "About this Mac" under the apple will not work post install. You must apply the Paulicat AppleSMBIOS to get this working almost perfectly. It still reports the memory frequency incorrecly. 4. The onboard Gigabit LAN will work. Use DaemonES patch post install. 5. No need to check USB in "customize". Works perfectly post install. There is a thread regarding the full output of USB2 (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=21487&st=0). I don't know how to measure my USB throughput from USB1 to 2 so I don't know if this box is related to that subject or not. Maybe JaS can chime in and let us know. 6. Use Prasys script post install (Semthex only) or go with your own methods to update the kernel to Semthex beta8. I haven't tried beta9 yet. Beta8 will jump your xBench by 30 or 40 points (at least it did on my E6600). It's much faster. I like Semthex because of his dedication and ongoing support. The Mifki Kernel is faster yet and stable... Just pick your poison, you can't go wrong. 7. These boards are shipping with BIOS versions 1.10 and 1.20 on them depending on where you get it. Version 1.4 is available on the ASROCK site in two formats. One is Windows installable and the other is floppy or "other installable. The Windows install version is the easiest and safest IF you have windows handy. The board will run fine with 1.10 or.2 or .3 or .4. I consider BIOS and firmware updates as madatory but most folks don't. This is a hobby right?
apmos
Thanks for the quick reply. The problem continues... "still waiting for root device" I think the problem is the hd. I have only 1 partition and I've read that the best thing is to have 2 partitions, and the OSX partition must be second, after a primary partition. Also, I don't know if the partition is set to active. As I said, I connected the HD to my main PC and created one single FAT32 partition. I didn't set is as active cause that would have ruined my Windows XP installation and I would have had boot problems. So, what can I do to make this partition active and how? Maybe is it already active and that's not the problem? Very frustrated about the whole thing....
Sailfish
I didn't realize that you were dual booting. I am sending you a PM with my notes on that so heads up. I have done many dual boot machines and started with single drive systems. Now I always use 2 drives. It's a lot easier and better operationally. Detosx
I have posted a longer version of this question elsewhere but, just in case it relates to the Asrock motherboard, I will post it here too. Transfers from my USB card reader rarely complete unless they are very small. Instead, the copy dialogue box shows that the transfer is frozen. Worse, you can't cancel or force quit the frozen transfer, or indeed restart/shutdown the computer. Removing the SD card or the card reader makes no difference. The card reader is a SWEEX. If you don't seat the SD card firmly it very occasionally flakes out in XP but we're talking very, very rarely; reseatinmg the card always does the trick, but not on the Hackintosh. I need to update the motherboard's bios but I suspect that isn't the culprit. Any thoughts welcome. For that matter, what card readers are known to work with the excellent Asrock? My system spec is:- Asrock ConRoe945G-DVI Conroe Duo 2 processor Seagate Sata2 hard drive Pioneer DVD rewriter Edited December 16, 2006 by Detosx
apmos
@ Sailfish Thanks a lot pal for the BIG HELP. I'm now posting from my OSX 10.4.8 I have a small problem which I think has to do with some bios settings... I applied the SMBIOS fix and it tells me that I have "4GHz Unknown" Processor. I have a P4 805 2,66 cpu. Also in The memory field it says: 1GB 0 MHz SDRAM. Is this natural? Is there any bios settings I must change? Note that I have 1.2 bios version and for now I cannon update it cause I'm running only OSX in this machine and there's no floppy drive. Thanks again Edited December 16, 2006 by apmos
Sailfish
Updating you BIOS won't change anything regarding your "About this Mac" issues. Some chips show up better than others for some reason. My E6600 registers correctly as a Core 2 Duo @ 2.4 Ghz but there has been plenty written about this in the forum. Paulicat's fix is as good as we have right now. You'll be fine on 1.2. Detosx
Calling all Asrock users! I am used to re-sizing partitions but, in this instance, the resizing fritzed my OS X partition and so I had to do complete reinstall (JAS 10.4.8 reseed). This time around I decided on Mifki rather than Semthex. Everything installed okay but it would never boot up using Mifki; the Darwin loader always seems about to startup but crashes and reboots in a chain/loop. Chosing instead to install the Semthex option works every time. I have tried this over and over with the same result. How did other people get Mifki to work on their Asrock motherboard? What bios settings? Any pointers most welcome. I am using Core Duo 2 and a Seagate Sata hard drive. Also I am having USB2 problems; the patch on the DVD doesn't help, indeed it freezes USB mouse and keyboard, as does the USB soundblaster patch. My SD card reader/ writer transfers around a quarter of any given file to the desktop, but then the progress bar stalls and doesn't move. You can't cancel it or even shut down the OS, Tiger says the computer is busy copying. Edited December 20, 2006 by Detosx
Detosx
Detosx, Same things happens when I connect the iPod to my front (case) USB and start transfering. Infamous, did you have any joy getting USB2 working? I worked my way back through this 28 page thread, which on dial-up took forever. I applied the suggested bios settings by Topazbar and managed to get mifki to boot. Excellent! And all together not obvious to newbies out there. Someone needs to write a complete top-to-bottom tutorial. And it seemed that the USB2 was talking to my card reader and having quite a sustained conversation when on the second copying of a 700mb chunk of data... it froze. I tired many variations in the bios with no joy. I even tried the Apple developers 10.4.8 USB patch but no joy. If anything that slowed it down. Fed up I uninstalled the Apple USB patch, took a usb2 card out of another PC and put it in the Asrock, reapplied the Apple USB2 patch and ran repair in Disk Utility. I had to run to work but before hand I managed to transfer two 400mb files without any problem... bar that it was running at more like USB1.1 speed. I will report back if the news is still good, with the card make and number. USB2 cards are cheap, though it is a pity to loose the slot. Perhaps I can get a combined USB2/Firewire card. Anyone know any good/STABLE(!) ones? I also have a question. If applying the USB patch or the USB soundblaster patch from the JAS 10.4.8 DVD causes USB not to work, as a number of people have found, is it still possible to run a USB soundcard without said patch? Merry Christmas everyone Edited December 24, 2006 by Detosx
