iMatt84
Just purchased an Asus Geforce 8400GS 512mb PCI E graphics card for $30 on Amazon. BARLEY fit into my low profile gateway *whipes sweat off forhead though I can't put my cover back on the pc as the graphics card sticks out. The good news is that the card worked with up to 1920x1080 resolution out of the box using my DVI cable bad news is no qe/qc. I'm running snow leapord 10.6.6 and I'd like to use final cut, or watch dvds, or have VLC media player work correctly HELP!!! Giorgio_multi
Are you sure that QE/CI are not active? Post an imge of your desktop. iMatt84
I would but I can't, I hold down the command + shift + 3 the sound of a snapshot is heard but nothing is saved to my desktop. Dvds still won't play and vlc doesn't show video, including firefox, google chrome and safari crashing conastantly, opera is the only supportive browser so far. I'd figure the quartz extreme would be enabled if i could see it displayed in the graphics/displays in the system profiler Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/245520-help-enabling-qcqe-on-geforce-8400gs-512mb/#findComment-1630796 Share on other sites
marc0hdz
did you try adding the strings for the 8400gs? iMatt84
did you try adding the strings for the 8400gs? do you have instructions on installing efi strings? if all else fails I might format and re-install osx 10.6.3 retail and then upgrade to 10.6.6 I had an Ati Radeon 4650 512 mb before when I installed OSX Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/245520-help-enabling-qcqe-on-geforce-8400gs-512mb/#findComment-1631550 Share on other sites
rednous
The easiest way to enable QE/CI on your 8400GS is to use Chameleon RC5 for OS X boot loader and the GraphicsEnabler key. 1. Use this automated installer for the latest Chameleon RC5 rev 699 2. Use the following key in your com.apple.boot.plist: <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>Yes</string> 3. Save your modified com.apple.boot.plist and reboot. I guess instead of swiping vid cards with Snow Leapord installed, doing a fresh install (reformatting the hard drive too) OSX 10.6.3 RETAIL and it must of automatically detected my card and made it 100% compatible! Now it works without having browsers crash, or vlc not showing video. Front Row works now and the menu bar is translucent! Also I have full resolution support up to 1080 and can rotate the monitor! For some reason under system profiler it doesn't list QE enabled but everything else is indicating it works! SEE? I SUGGEST ANYONE WITH AN ASUS GEFORCE 8400GS 512MB CARD WITH PROBLEMS TO JUST RE-INSTALL SNOW LEAPORD 10.6.3 RETAIL AND IT'LL WORK 100% NO KEXTS, EFI STRINGS OR EDITING THE COM.APPLE.BOOT.PLIST!!!! Idk why QE isn't showing in my system profuler but all other signs point to yes. My install method was to just reinstall and format my hard drive witha fresh reboot of snow leapord 10.6.3 retail. I got that cool video in the start of first getting into osx. Worked right away with NO modifications! That's my "install methond" Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/245520-help-enabling-qcqe-on-geforce-8400gs-512mb/#findComment-1631963 Share on other sites
dothacker
its either he used a bootloader + #####, or he's using a real mac to just install a retail snow leopard without mods for 8400GS... weird... You can't just pop in a retail Snow Leopard in a PC and make it boot without a boot cd (like #####). That's just... weird. and what Gringo is trying to say, is IT WILL NOT show in system profile that QE/CI is on, not like Leopard. mr.spike
Sorry for stupid question. I was wrong. I thought that retail is the configuration of hackintosh installer such as myHack. etstanger
I have used this method, with GraphicsEnabler=yes and Chameleon RC5 while booting up, and it hangs on ACPI_SMC_platformplugin time-out. I'm using the iAtkos s3v2 distro. I should note that not using those kexts boots up just fine but i'm stuck in 1024x768. I really want to get some decent resolution. I bought the damn GFX card because it said it didn't need any kexts in the HCL for 10.6.3 ECS GeForce 7050vt-m mobo Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/245520-help-enabling-qcqe-on-geforce-8400gs-512mb/#findComment-1714355 Share on other sites
