I'm new!

Hi,

As the title suggests, I'm new! Not just new to the forum, but new to mac as well. Last year I was given an iMac by my brother, I turned it on, poked around, then turned it off, wasn't too bothered about it TBH, until recently when for some unknown reason I've decided I want to get OS X on my laptop!

The laptop I have is a Toshiba Equium A100-027, I tried putting snow leopard on with an ##### disk, it would get as far as the apple logo with the spinning doobery underneath, stay like that for a good while, then go to a blank white screen and do nothing, I left it for a day while I was at work, came home to the same white screen it was on when I left it!

After a bit of reading, I decided to buy a netbook to put it on, to save messing on with my laptop, so I've bought an Acer Aspire One ZG5, it should be coming next week sometime, it was cheap so I'm not too bothered if it doesn't work out!

In the mean time I decided to fire up the iMac to prep a USB hard drive, all went well until I went to install chameleon, it requires os x 10.5, the iMac only has 10.4, so I installed it manually, which seems to have worked.

To try it out, I put a spare hard drive in the laptop, plugged the USB hard drive in and booted from it, this time, as soon as the installer tried to start I had an error saying I had to restart the computer, in the background was (I think) a kernel panic, I didn't read it all, and couldn't see it all because of the error box telling me to restart the computer, but it said something about the wrong number of cores, it expected 2 and only found 1, it's an intel core duo, so it does have 2 cores, couldn't find anything in the bios that helped, so I'm guessing the laptop isn't going to work at all with OS X!

Just need to try it with the netbook when it arrives, hopefuly I'll have more luck!
