I ve even tried to install taruga's patch that is not compatible with Snow Leopard!! I got an Acer Travelmate 5730...my sound card is ALC 268...I installed Voodoo HDA and speakers and headphone worked but mic int/ext didn't... Now I installed a patched AppleHDA.kext that I attached and I got mic int/ext working and headphone working but NO sound from speakers unfortunately!! It seems like I didn't plug anything when I plug the headphone jack...from the sound prefpane I mean... I don't know how to figure it out... thank you in advance! I ve already said that installing this would have shut down your speakers but for me headphone and the mic are working well... as regards voodoo hda you can install the latest version which works pretty well!! but no mic! Good luck! You Are not unlucky, as you say, but simply there is not anyone Who did an Applehda enabler for our Acer . My 7720g is the same : alc268 and i didn't find a kext working well in snow(one no mic,one not speakers, exactly like you). I just found a leopard kext fully working, made with applehda taruga patcher! But for leo,no working after sleep ,etc. Why doesn't anyone make such taruga-like patch for snow for less popolar codecs like ours??
