Moop
My Hackintosh (specs listed below) has this strange problem. Sometimes when I try to eject my DVD drive (when there's a disk inside), it'll unmount from the desktop, but the drive won't eject. When I open any finder window, the disk will still be listed along with my main hard drive. If I try to select it'll say something to the effect of "The volume,(insert name of disk) is not available." To eject the DVD, I have to restart the computer. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any way to remedy this? My system specs are as follows: -Intel D915GAGL Motherboard -Intel Celeron D 336 (2.8 GHz) (which appears as 3.06 GHz in Maxxuss's 10.4.5 and JaS's 10.4.6 and 10.4.7 builds; anyone know why this is?) -Maxtor 200 GB 7,200 RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive -NEC DVD+/-RW drive (with Dual-Layer DVD+R support and Dual Layer DVD-R support) -MicroATX case Thanks. Rammjet
The correct ways to eject the DVD are: 1) Drag it from the Desktop to the Trash. 2) In any open Finder window, in the left pane, click on the up arrow beside the DVD 3) Press and hold F12 (might work). ruku
i have a nec 4550 dvd burner and after install it did something similar. actually it would work for the first 10 minutes but anything i did after that wouldnt work including trying to access the contents of the disk. eventually i turned off sleep on the harddisks in the preference pane and it works almost perfectly now. only problem is i cant play burned video files with my favorite media player "NicePlayer" so i use VLC player instead or copy the file to my desktop. Moop
The correct ways to eject the DVD are: 1) Drag it from the Desktop to the Trash. 2) In any open Finder window, in the left pane, click on the up arrow beside the DVD 3) Press and hold F12 (might work). I usually do it via the first or third methods (but I use the eject key instead of F12), and sometimes when I do so, it doesn't work (which is the entire point of this thread). Curiously enough, the volume still appears in open finder windows, but the eject button there does nothing and it says that the volume isn't available (also in my original thread). tterragcnoom
I've had the exact same problem with my NEC ND-4570A. I was just about to buy a pioneer (I had tried updating the firmware), but I'll try this not sleeping the harddisks thing, because I had the drive working before I reformatted my hackintosh and I think I remember setting the harddisks to not spin down before. Thanks for the tip! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/23838-dvd-problems/#findComment-169413 Share on other sites
