I have spent weeks, oh months, I don't really know anymore how long. All I need is for sleep to work. Machine specs

IBM R60 (9456-68u)

Chipset Intel GMA 950

Video card device ID: "8086:27a2 945GM/GMS943/940GML Express". That information was pulled using the iATKOS_S3_version2 DVD.

Snow leopard 10.6.3 installed with iATKOS_S3_version 2. I chose VGA Intel EFI String at install.

There are lots of people here with GMA 950 but no clear cut word on if anyone has sleep working. I have tried just about every solution here. And it won't work. At some point I installed some kexts from here that when I asked machine to sleep, the cursor disappears and when I hit the power button, it shows up but without the laptop going to sleep.

Someone here wiki.osx86project.org say they have sleep working. They have Thinpad X60T (6363-AQ8)

The folks over at uphuck.ggrn.de/ say on the readme: "Sleep can also be enabled by modifying the DSDT" but it's not clear how to do this. I've opened the dsdt file but can't seem to figure it out.

If you have sleep working on this laptop, or have the same chipset on your laptop. Please, please, mother of earth, please help with how you did it, install method, etc. Please. I have exhausted Google, here and a lot of all the forums out there.

Perhaps you should do a vanilla install. Try following this guide, which would seem to include ThinkPads similar to your R60

I have a T61, 10.6.3 vanilla install (now updated to 10.6.5 using ##### - http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/ibo...ac-os-x-on.html with additional kexts - sleep works without issues. I used this to get the T61 to sleep when I close the lid - before that I was having to sleep manually: http://www.meklort.com/?p=250

Thanks a lot for taking the time to respond and thanks also so very much for the resources you've provided here. I've tried a Vanilla install before using myHack but whatever I tried, it did not work. That's when I found uphuck.

Please tell me, is your chipset GMA 950. This, I think, is the most important question, to determine whether sleep is possible on this chipset with SL.

I will explore now these resources and see if I can find the answer to that while I wait.

But please confirm, do you have GMA 950?

My T61 has the GMA 965 chipset with the X3100 graphics chip. However the GMA 950 is not inherently a problem: I have a Toshiba NB205 netbook with this chipset happily running Snow Leo (installed using the iHack usb key method). No problems with sleep on the netbook... bear in mind that the Intel 950 chipset was the one used on the original white MacBooks, so is fairly "vanilla" for us hackintoshers.

A few quick suggestions... in Energy Saver preferences, make certain you have "Start up automatically after a power failure" ticked (otherwise sleep will fail). Do you have AHCI enabled in BIOS? You could try using the DSDT from the Thinkpad forum link I gave you to see if that does the trick (since it is from a T60). Make sure you have the Sleepenabler.kext. Try using the Chameleon version in #####. Any one of these things may provide your solution.

But longer term, and for keeping your system up to date - I'm now on 10.6.5, updated without major issues - go vanilla! If iHack usb key didn't work for you, try the #####/##### route. Personally I used iHack with a 10.6.3 image, the USB key being prepared on my Toshiba from Snow (I only got this T61 a couple of weeks ago - best Mac I've ever had!), after which I used ##### to update to 10.6.5.

First of all, let me say that I really appreciate your help. Thank you very, very much. For once I believe that I can do this. And I think many other folks will benefit perhaps now, or later from this help.

I'm trying the tonymac method but so far I found that F5 won't work. I know the disc works because I tried running it on a non intel mac and it tells me that it won't install because that computer was non intel. When I hit F5 in the R60, it makes a bit of noise as though it's going to spin, but it does not. When I put the uphuck dvd and tried that, it shows up on the screen but will not spin. The original dvd did not show up at all on the screen.

I think you're right, I will go with the Vanilla install. Both the thinkpad link and tonymac are vanilla methods, and so is myHack. I will continue using only Vanilla install.

I was wondering if you'd please send me the kexts related to this from your Toshiba NB205 netbook, just the video and sleep related texts. I have the others, confirmed working, all except wireless. I will be buying another, but first I need to sort out the install and upgrade. And with your continued help, I think I can do that.

This evening, I will try the myHack option it's the one that has had the greatest promise so far. The only problem I had with it was when it reboot, using the myHack for the second time, it went to a blank screen. But I think it was because I did not have the proper video texts. If you send me yours, I will add that.

I will leave it at that for now....thanks a million.

Not sure about your reference to F5, if you're trying to get to the boot menu that should be F12 (at least it is on my T61).

I don't think you need the graphics Kexts I used on the NB205 but if you want them they can be obtained from here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F12D9NVH .

Since you can boot from myHack, I would suggest doing that. Don't reboot... run ##### after first updating to 10.6.5 (don't reboot after the update, run ##### first).

If that works for you, when you reboot run ##### again and select "Advanced Options", go to com.apple.boot.plist and select 32-bit Apple Boot Screen - this should get your graphics fully working (witout Kexts). From Smbios plist install the one for Macbook Pro. Also install Voodoo sound kexts (I would suggest .56), Chameleon 2 etc. To get your trackpad and trackpoint working well, try this kext: http://thinkpads.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=86059.

If you go with the above, you shouldn't need video kexts, and your sleep should work. Let me know if you need any more info.

The referrence to F5 is in using Tonymac86 method. Not to worry about that I figured out that problem, it was with the DVD.

What options should I select on the first run of #####? I know for the second run, I should run the Advanced and make the selections you suggested. Thanks.

I got very far this time. I got as far as 10.6.5 update and applied #####. And when I reboot, got KP and below is the message:

start [/sourceCache/AirportDriverAtheros5424/AirportDriverAtheros5424-411.19.4/src/common/lmac/ath_dev/darwin/AtherosController.cpp:1149] load failed

The driver for that card is inside:

IO80211FAMILY.kext

I deleted it and got grey screen. I changed it with this one by Adam.co.jp And still got grey screen.

I took the HD out the laptop, ran ##### and selected "Advanced Options", go to com.apple.boot.plist and select 32-bit Apple Boot Screen and from Smbios plist installed the one for Macbook Pro.

I ran pfix on it, installed it and booted.

I got grey screen.

I'm fresh out of ideas.

Instinct tells me I need to edit the IO80211FAMILY.kext I got earlier, but no clue what to add in it.

I just found out that I do have display, only if connected to an external on startup. I'm now really stumped.

Very odd - the GMA 950 chipset doesn't usually present many problems.

I've seen reports that this is the best installation method yet - though I haven't tried it out myself, you might want to give it a whirl (I'd suggest that you fully format the disk first):

Good luck!
