Got close but didn't work. My BIOS settings are probably not configured right and/or maybe we have a different BIOS. More help is appreciated. I've tried nawcom and ##### now with ##### getting close.

I have R510 (GeForce 9200M GS), and I found a way to control brightness. Thanks to nvclock and SmartDimmer I can change it using terminal.

The only thing I don't know how to fix is the sleep. First time it sleeps and wakes right, but the second time fans don't stop.

I modified DSDT to fix RTC, USB, PowerManagement, and disable Lid Sleep.

Kexts I used:

AHCIPortInjector.kext, AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext, fakesmc.kext, mapMemoryDriver.kext, VoodooPS2Controller.kext, VoodooBattery.kext, VoodooHDA.kext.

Hibernate works thanks to Maldon! I have to do some more testing, but he patched the DSDT for my R480 and it looks like hibernate is working.

Using Chameleon 2 RC5 rev. 650, hibernatemode 1, and I disabled Legacy USB in BIOS (going to test if that matters tomorrow). Sound crackles after waking, looking to fix that as well.

I assume this DSDT should work with the R series machines with nearly identical hardware.

Yes, fine for my R580. Thanks very much, now everything is fully working. Only the brightness keys do not work but I don´t mind this

I have a R530 With nvidia 310 Graphics. I could NOT get ##### to work although I have a retail dvd and would prefer to use it. It would come up with an error that appeared to be related to ACHI, although I had this manually enabled. If anyone has clear instructions on how to use ##### with this particular model, I would love to hear about it.

I am trying Iatkos s3 v2. I would also appreciate if someone would provide the particular options that should be set or removed to install. I have tried it twice and both times, when I am about 3/4 done, the machine reboots. Hopefully I can get this to go.

EDIT: Okay...this appears to install although it looks like a bunch is still waiting to install. It isn't. So when it reboots with about 25% remaining, it IS installed. However after installing Iatkos I cannot restart the computer. I get the grey screen of death fairly quickly. I will try again tonight but if anyone has any insight or guidance it would be most appreciated.

I would try to get your retail disc to install. Try nawcom's boot CD (google it) rather than the iAtkos.

I will try that and report back. The message I am getting with ##### is:

"Unable to find driver for this platform: ACPI".

EDIT: I can now boot into OSX in safe mode. I was able to install using Nawcom MOD CD but have not figured out how to upgrade ot 10.6.5. #####?

EDIT2: I think I have success. I used the NawCOM MOD CD to get it installed, then I had to boot AGAIN from the NawCOM CD using the new operating system AND -X on boot (second boot from the OSX installation) and then go into Boot.plist in the extras folder and change Legacy_kernel to MACH_kernel, because I kept getting could not find legacy_kernel errors. Then I installed the YUKON2 ethernet kext. Then I ran #####, did an upgrade to 10.6.5 and installed ##### ONLY addiing voodooaudio 2.5.6. Then I installed IO80211Family kext for wireless. Haven't checked everything but it is booting fine.

I used Nawcom, which requires a retail DVD. You use the nawcom to get the retail to install. See the nawcom site for details. #####, which does the same thing, would NOT work for me. If you don't know what kexts are, you likely need to step away from the machine. Bios needs to be set to ACHI manual.

When i tried nawcom after i insert the retail dvd and after the initial boot, the system would auto reboot. AHCI was set to manual in the bios. Did you use any other settings? System is r530 core i3

After you switch to the retail CD, hit -x and -v. (Boot in safe/verbose mode)

That should get you to the install screen.

Also, to get the wirelesss to work, after upgrading to 10.6.5 I followed this advice and it worked:

Adam.co.jp

The super lazy/quick way is to edit the 10.6.5 IO80211Family.kext

IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortAtheros21.kext/Contents/Info.plist

and add this string

<string>pci168c,2b</string>

even quicker just download the attachment.

Install to /E/E or /S/L/E rebuild mkext then reboot and enjoy

I used ##### to rebuild the mkext.

My DSDT-Hacks for Samsungs R730 Marik (Core i5, Geforce 310m):

  • working LCD brightness adjustment via FN+F12/FN+Break
  • working sleep & wakeup without disabling webcam and third USB port
(need to press the powerbutton 2x for a complete wake up  ) -> solved

Thanks @violet7 for the boot-file, @tonymacx86.com for the USB hacks and @nobb1x for the backlight hack! :(

Now everything works except ethernet, lid, numpad.

My Kexts:

FakeSMC, VoodooPS2, ACPIPS2Nub, AppleACPIBatteryManager and VoodooHDA.

EDIT: Thanks @valv for his bootloader and @THe KiNG for his atheros trick.

@violet7: can you provide the sources of your boot-file?

My Kexts:

FakeSMC, VoodooPS2, ACPIPS2Nub, AppleACPIBatteryManager, VoodooHDA and a modified ID in AirPortAtheros21.

Can you explain the values you injected for the graphics part in the DSDT, specifically NVMT and pwm-info ?

See thats exactly where I am at. Im willing to bet its BIOS or something else small.

No, I've copied it from here. And I guess nobb1x get it from MacBook6,1 IOreg dump.

The only thing I know is pwm ->pulse width modulation. The driving method for the backlight LEDs.

@Marten.

Wow looks great, BUT sadly I own a R780 Hero and somehow your DSDT does not work out for me.

I have an #####+##### ##### install and removed the .kexts for a DSDT enabled system. Installed your DSDT via UserDSDT in #####, rebooted and my system went into trash. I cant recover it from the immediate KPs.

Would you mind showing all the patches/injects you did on your DSDT? Better yet would you like to edit my DSDT accordingly if I attach it? That would be great as I am still diving into the DSDT editing with unsuccessfull results. Whats the best way to export the DSDT ? Everest, DSDT editor, or DSDTSE. Should I take care of something for the export?

I am dying to have brightness fixed as in dark surroundings eyes are hurting a lot.

Thanks in advance for your support.

@ivik

Thanks for the pointer! I´ll try it out as an alternative first until I get the DSDT sorted out (hopefully Marten can help me out). However it would be much better to get the DSDT running for a vanilla system as sleep is the next big hickup on my system.

BTW: You did great by getting the brightness topic rolling. It helped the community so much. Thanks!

Here is my unmodified DSDT. Use the FileMerge.app or something similar to see what i've done. I guess you need the _DSM method inside the NVID device, the PNLF device after the PWRB device and the DTGP method.

I don't know whats the best way to dump the DSDT. I use DSDTSE. I like their huge fixes and hacks collection. The DSDT-Editor is a nice tool to get an overview of the DSDT structure.

You mean the DSDT hacks list you can choose from in DSDTSE?

All this sounds like chinese to me still but Ill have a look and see how I get a long with this information.

My first initial try with the export from DSDT and a compile without any modifications brought a 200 errors compile. This is the first thing i have to sort out
