Colonel
For years now we've been hearing rumors of Apple developing a cell phone and jumping into the wireless market... and we've seen plenty of fake pictures to go along with those rumors. According to a few reports, Apple just might have proved these rumors true with the recent iPod update. AppleInsider has the scoop: While Apple has been relatively mum on any plans for iPod-branded cell phone, the latest iPod software includes references to an "t_feature_app_PHONE_APP" application and variables such as "kPhoneSignalStrength," "clPhoneCallHistoryModel," prPhoneSettingsMenu," "prPhoneSettingsMenuView," prPhoneEnableSetting" and "prPhoneMenuItem." The phone references within the iPod software are unlikely in relation to Motorola's iTunes Music phones because those phones do not run the iPod operating system, the member pointed out in his analysis. The references also appear to be unrelated Apple's address book synching. It remains to be seen if this means Apple will be releasing an “iPhone” soon or simply an update to the Motorola iTunes phone. Who knows, some sort of iTelecommunicationDevice might even be revealed at WWDC. The real question - would you buy one?
kevin_4e
I'm really excited for WWDC to see if there's any iPhone stuff. Hopefully it's a whole other phone when compared to the Rokr. Great story. Keep us posted with any new information on the iPhone.

vsmith1
Of course the cynic within me says that this may be news for USA but for the rest of us it seems to take Apple quite a while to reach the rest of the world. I base my opinions on iTMS experiences. The mobile markets are at least as diverse. Apple could make a very good job of it - get on the leading edge (excuse the pun) - and mash up the iPod, Airport, iSync, iChat AV, mobile phone tech, GPS, and some sort of PDA (there's the hole!). You 'd have a device that can act as a phone, satnav, VoIP handset etc. Of course, it'll be much less. probably less than a Treo but with an iPod. And the big issue is the price. This is the significant business difference - most phones are "sold" at less than the cost price - because the user signs up for a contract with the mobile company. Have a look and compare the price of an unlocked Sony Ericsson W810 compared to getting one on a contract. Apple like to be in control of the "whole of the end-user experience" there is no way that they can be with mobile phones. Vince
Then there were none.
I think the fact that www.iphone.org is highly suspicious. I think apple likes to leave trails and false evidence and even plant rumors themselves to build up hype.

iDerf2006
No, I wouldn't buy one. I love Apple products, but for my cellular needs, I'm sticking with the Motorola RAZR brand.
jonz14
I would love to buy one but I believe it will have a price tag around with the current ipods and i just got a Razr V3c at the beginning of summer so I doubt I will be getting one and I hope that its CDMA so there is a chance I will be able to get it at my local wireless provider (I live in a rural area and the only providers I have is U.S. Cellular and Alltell)

dtm3dd
Its funny the way someone can convince so many people so easily. Maybe were all so desperate for secret apple products we'll believe anything. God, Jobs is good at creating publicity.
