ATI Radeon HD6000, HD5000 and HD4000 series support in Chameleon

System Profiler says "This computer does not appear to have any PCI Cards installed." Graphics/Displays shows my HD 5870 correctly. Is this a problem with my system, a feature of the Kabyl booter or something else?

Mines the same seems to be purely cosmetic though.

Any idea when this branch will be merged with mozodojo one?

Thanks for your hard work ^_^

I run my 8400 GS actually, 5870 owners and running, could you check if the speed connection ( i don't know the correct name in english) is with 10.6.5: 5.0GT/s instead of 2,5GT/s?

After a night of reckoning with 10.6.5 update, I wonder if there be anyone who start this process straight after the update using only the bootloader to test the included ATI support of 10.6.5. Anyone?

My first boot after the 10.6.5 upgrade didn't complete - never made it to the login window. I booted from my clone drive and deleted the caches (/System/Library/Cache/). Also used Digital_Dreamer's Hackinstaller script to re-install my kexts and rebuild the mkext cache. After that, no problems booting with the primary drive with 10.6.5. Graphics performance appears unaffected.

Anyone knows kabyl?, it is weird don't know anything about him. He said in the previous mails, that it takes so long, and he would release in few time.

If anyone knows him, please say, that we are waiting for him, or for his merge in the trunk or whatever.

Cheers.

@Lyle M

What do you use to make bootable clone. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Feel free to PM me

so as to not have this thread go off topic (sorry Kabyl for asking this here but could find no topic on this).

Kabyl,

How come your branch of the chameleon source does not include this code? I didn't realize the attached boot file was different and kept having blackscreen and full speed fan problems no matter what framebuffer I tried. It would have saved much time and frustration. I had given up until I saw DaviDemon was up and running and knew there must have been something I was missing. Using the boot file attached to the first post worked with a 5760 just fine. ugg! Oh well.

There are at least three or maybe 4 threads on the subject the new ATI cards with each claiming a little success for some. I would like to see a collaborative effort so we can have some unity. People may spend way too much counterproductive effort and time that we all lack.

But all that said, cheers to all contributors.

Hi Kabyl

I second that... only as I have a very stable system since the original test message and associated boot file. I was very disappointed to note that Chameleon 2.0 RC5 Revision 619 did not contain your code.

Please I would welcome an update from you as to where you are now, as I have a very stable system using your original boot.gz file.

This thread originally was a testing site for users to provide feedback to you although some appear to have missed your original post and ask how to etc etc.

That apart some feedback as to the current state would be much appreciated.

Brgds/Tony.

Hello Guys

I'm sorry if it's not the good thread but you're experts with ATI Cards :)

Do you think ATI 5870 2Go (With 6 MiniDisplayPort, adapters are included) will works well on Leopard ?

I read on another thread there are sometimes problems with MiniDP on ATI 5870 1Go , it's my anxiety to have the same problems on the 2Go. :censored2:

There is someone who have evaluated this configuration ?

We can now have some discount prices for this model : (309€)

No Problems here with 10.6.5 Update. My 5750 works perfectly fine after update.

But i had to add the 5750 Device ID to ATi5000Controller.kext again! The 10.6.5 Update includes newer Ati 5000 Driver Kext. After that i use Kext Utility to repeair permssions - reboot and voila, im on 10.6.5

Hi,

I have this kind of card up and running on 10.6.5 using Kabyls boot file.

Mine is a Club3d 5870 2Gb Eyefinity 6.

Right now i have two displays set up, one is connected via DisplayPort (Port 3 counting from the top of the card) and is running 2560x1600, the other via DVI (Port 1) and is running 1920x1200. Display rotation, resolution change and QE/CI work.

I could not get three displays working yet and also i have to connect the displays to "special" ports, i can't just use any of the 6, the screens would stay blank.

Also, for the DP to work after boot, i have to reconnect the active DVI cable on Port 2

I'm using Uakari framebuffer, the new Nomascus Framebuffer would boot and detect my screens (can check via screen sharing) but my Displays stay black.

Hope this helps and maybe somebody finds a solution to the display detection on all six miniDP connectors.

Can someone confirm whether audio out through HDMI will work with the Radeon HD 5570? I would like to find out for sure before I buy it. Specifically I want to be able to output DTS-MA and Dolby Digital True HD to my stereo from this card.

The card I am looking at is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814102875

For the audio to even work, it would have to be output from the Display Port and work with an HDMI adapter.

Thanks for the help.

In the last couple of days, I was rewriting ATI support in Chameleon, and had a few testers, but I need to make sure it works on most supported cards.

First I would like to outline a few things:

  • This isn't a HOW TO get your card working, this is a request for testing.
  • Don't ask how to install the booter, how to use or add a given booter flag or how to run an update, if you don't know how to do that yourself, then this isn't for you, yet, learn that elsewhere, and you're more than welcome here.
  • I don't take responsibility for any damage this may cause, so take your precautions before you use this.

Requirements:

  • An ATI Radeon HD5xxx or HD4xxx card.
  • Latest Snow Leopard with the latest Graphics update.

How and what to report:

  • Disable any kind of enabler, injector or device-properties you're currently using.
  • Test every port, and any possible combination; test each port alone, then two ports, then three.. etc, to the best you're capable of.
  • Post the output from: sudo lspci -nnvd 0x1002: | grep -B2 Subsystem.
  • Save an ioreg dump (Save from the File menu of IORegistryExplorer) each time you try a different port and/or combination.
  • Report any observations or comments.
  • Include a screenshot of the Graphics tab from System Profiler when reporting.

Check out this wikipedia page for more information.

This booter has a new key; "AtiFb", if one would like to try a different framebuffer;

If the card is not primary, then you need a <vendorid>_<deviceid>.rom under /Extra.

Currently tested and working cards:

ATI Radeon HD5970 ("deviceid and disabling of the second GPU needs to be done in the driver files", thanks to Spanky Deluxe).

ATI Radeon HD5870

ATI Radeon HD5770

ATI Radeon HD4890

ATI Radeon HD4870

Thanks:

To Trauma who started adding HD5xxx support, and to FKA (FormerlyKnownAs), joe75 and tmongkol for their great feedback.

Notes:

- Once the testing is finished, I'll submit the patch to my branch and then eventually to trunk, please be patient!

- The booter is based on my branch, so it includes the newly rewritten SMBIOS patcher.
