NikNantos
Hi All, I have a Saphire 5670 with 512 Mb ddr5.. I followed the instruction in the first post and I got it working.. I have only some strange "noise" problem and in some cases the screen went black, but I have just to disconnect and reconnect the DVI or VGA cable that the problem disappears.. First attempt with Uakari, then I tried another one (now I don't remember) but I got the same noise problem.. I'll try some different FB and I'll let you know.. (Kernel is running at 64 bit..) zooxit
Hi! OK this will probably be the most beginner question ever: How do I change the boot file (is that the boot exec in root?). The files in the zip are txt... Help please.
Maniac10
Just replace the one on your root folder with this one, it may not be visible but it's there. Also you should first install chameleon RC5 for this to work, you can get it from the New Releases section.
zooxit
Thanks for quick answer. Did try that - doesn't boot. If I look in root the file is as text file (not exec) - is that OK. Also don't know how to change to RC5 - tried with ##### but when I load I see RC4 by Asere (as was loaded by multibeat 2.3.0). Any help appreciated!
Maniac10
Here you can get an installer for the latest RC5, once you have it installed you can use terminal to copy the boot file to the root folder. Just unzip it to your desktop then run these commands on a terminal: cd desktop cp boot / With this you should be ready to reboot, you may check chameleon's log with Wait=Yes. Make sure you have GraphicsEnabler=Yes on your com.apple.boot.plist.
zooxit
I am realy sorry to bother again, but... (I don't get it). I ran the installer for the latest chameleon but at boot when I press F8 (to select the disk from which to boot - it is one disk with two partitions (one for working version of OSX and one for messing around /I copy them with superduper so I always have one working copy, in case I screw the other one.../)) so, when I press F8 I still see Chameleon RC4 by Asere at the top of the screen. Is it because of two partitions, that I cannot install new chameleon?
Maniac10
That shouldn't be a problem, unless you have more than one disk, in whick case you should select the proper one in the bios and then make sure you're installing chameleon on that one. If it doesn't work either, you should install it manually. Just follow this guide but use the files I've attached here instead. Once you're done with that, copy kabyl's boot file (anyway you want, terminal or finder) to the root folder and it should work. Good luck. EDIT: Great, then you won't need all that, I'll just leave it anyway just in case someone else may need it.
zooxit
OK, solved. Had to go to the first partition and remove chameleon first. sudo su rm -rf /.Chameleon

Maniac10
Try without the rom command and kabyl's boot file. It should read the bios directly from the hardware.

zooxit
Hi! I tried vervet, uakari, zonalis, megalodon, baboon, eulemur and alopias so far. I always get same result: after loading for quite a while, when I would normaly expect a desktop to appear, monitor shuts off (monitor is going to sleep). Am I doing something wrong or should I continue this way with the rest of fbs? Some of them I just unzziped and copied them to root, some of them I tried with Kabyls boot and wrote AtiFb=(name of fb), afeter holding F8 at the begining (and using verbose). Is that the correct procedure? Any help appreciated.
pootul
I have the graphics card(5450). Can you make the finding public here in the forum, please? Sure, sorry I didn't do it sooner, life got in the way. I've tried with the latest /boot file, and the latest drivers (out of the latest 10.6.x beta), and not a single one of the framebuffers works. Once you get to the point where the framebuffer would load, nothing else happens. (Technically, the system loads, but you can't see a thing)

zooxit
Tried all the buffers with Kabyl's boot and all usual ones with Mohamed's. Always same result: System loads - I can hear the sound of Skype loading on headphones, but when the desktop should load, the screen goes black (monitor going to sleep). Also tried unplugging and pluging again the DVI cable and adding my resolution in apple plist. No succes. Help, please.
zooxit
...oh, and graphics is Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 1GB (in case it is not seen in signature). And if I delete 5000Controller or radeon3000 kext, than I can get to the desktop... But low-res and no other functions. Does that mean the drivers are wrong (I allready have graphics update installed - after 10.6.4; I know the instructions in first post are different, but I allready had gfx update installed)? My device id was allready in the mentioned kexts (6898). Any help appreaciated.
