nblx nox
My PowerColor HD 5850 started itself after installing 10.6.3 retail using ##### ATI + MultyBeast, 10.6.4 Update and Graphic Update. The Only think I've done is removed "Graphic Enabler" from boot.plist - it made fans run at 100% and prevent Mac OS from booting. That's all! clipter
Hello everyone. I'm sure I'm not the only, but I really need help. Could some one who got a 5670 working please post a literal step by step guide on how to get this card working. This is incredibly frustrating, as I've been spending the last week trying to get this to work. Please help a guy out.
larabee
Finally I can make my 5870 work perfectly in 64bit! I think the answers for most of the KP related to X3000 are: - device ID is not inserted properly. - You're not using retail install ( iatkos is prone to KP using this bootloader and kabyl's too ) - One of your kexts is not 64bit compatible - Check your dsdt and your kexts to make sure there's no conflict. Other than that, I have Chameleon 2 RC5 (updated from pre-RC5 installed by iAtkos S3 V2). The only non-stock items other than that are the Realtek support (8168/8111D, which the motherboard requires) and VoodooHDA (onboard audio). What would iAtkos include that would cause the KPs that is non-standard among those items I haven't already swapped? If you are referring to the Realtek, does the current 8111E support pass muster? (According to ASUS, the onboard is the RTL8112L.)
iBdb
@PGHammer, For around $30 you could not get a better investment than Retail Disk. It is time we support the people that in affect allow us to run Hack's. I'm sure it would not be hard for them to if not totally stop us at least make it persistently allot more difficult. If I'm not mistaken, the $30 disk is *upgrade*, not meant to be installed clean. (That is my understanding, at least; there are several nearby shops that stock it, including no less than four BBs and one actual Apple Store, as well as both area MicroCenters.) The quibble isn't an amount that small - it's just that I am leery of spending money for something and then having it *not work*. That sort of thing is a pain in anybody's backside - it's all the more painful when the economy is in the crapper.

The *upgrade* is meant for someone who already owns OS X (Leopard)- the full version is for new owners or owners of OS X (tiger & below). The full version includes snow leopard, iLife & iWork (on 3 disks), the upgrade only contains snow leopard. The actual software (& installer) is identical- not specifically "meant" to be installed clean or "on top of" leopard. Basically, if you don't need or want iLife & iWork then get the upgrade. You get the EXACT same software. Of course Apple wants you to buy the full version and therefore makes it seem as though the upgrade will not work if you do not have leopard but that is not really the case. Thanks for the info, AuralArchitect. I was wondering because Microsoft had done the same thing with *Windows* (in fact, up until Windows Vista, even the upgrade versions could be installed clean; it was only with Vista that they hardened up the upgrade check), and as much as Bill Gates and the *other Steve* (Ballmer) were despised, this was an area where they differed from Apple (which had a nasty habit of hiding upgrade media from Mac owners, which took until *Leopard* to fix). The other reason for my query earlier has to do with an issue I was trying to raise - quality-control (QC/QA) when it comes to modified OS releases for Hacks (especially the changes from official kexts). If an update (such as the SL Graphics Update) breaks something because of a modification, wouldn't it be useful to know what the trigger was (why it broke)? (Naturally, the same issue is true with hacks that *we* develop - they have to be able to withstand version updates; otherwise, changes such as the Graphics Update could be used deliberately (by Apple) like the worst sort of "Jonestown Kool-Aid" - you and your Hack would know diddly until you drank it.) This event indicated that your system is not ready to load and run all new kexts from the update. Perhaps some under-the-hood modification in iatkos broke the mapping in those kext. I did try with iatkos for weeks with no hope at all. THen, I switch to retail with ##### ATI, it works right at the first time. Speaking of #####, the previous three versions have been narrowed down to one (I've been shaking down #####, including this install, which used iAtkos as a base strictly as a testbed). The new version is available the same place the previous ones have been. And it's precisely those under-hood modifications that I was referring to that need to undergo that QA/QC I was referring to. soccermadman
I have a Mobility Radeon 5870 in an Alienware M17xR2 laptop. Last night I installed the Chameleon RC5 update and rebooted. Now when I boot into OSX I can see all the eyecandy is turned on (Dock looks pretty and has the glass effect, etc) which wasn't on before. However, the OS is either, not accepting input from the mouse and keyboard, or mostly locked up. When I press the power button it usually pops up asking if I want to restart etc. I also installed ##### before rebooting. I am trying to get my Mobility HD 5870 working with the loader and instructions provided above, but for now I can't even get anything to work. Does anyone have any input as to whether the GUI is locked up or do you think it is a problem with the keyboard and mouse drivers since the ##### install? Any and all input is welcomed.
kamephis
I'am using the Vervet loader a few days now and I'am experiencing some graphic bugs: 1. The display is much brighter which causes display problems in some Websites with a bright font. 2. Some Dashboard Widgets are not beeing displayed correct. A few minutes ago my Dashboard crashed. starship-Insanity
lol osx 10.5.6 !! it work only on snow Will probably regret asking... but is there a way to get the HD5670 (or any HD5xxxx) card to work in Leopard? The reason I ask is that I have a Leopard installation but want to move up to Snow which I have already successfully installed on a separate hd. My current gfx card is HD3850 which works great on Leo - but has no support in SL. Ideally i'd like to boot into Leo or SL whenever i want so I can have an easy transition. Other option is to get the HD3850 to work in SL ... but that's probably asking too much!!!
kamephis
Anyone an idea how to get rid of the mentioned graphic failures? Maybe it helps if I explain my installation procedure. 1. Installed Snow Leopard (Retail) with ##### + ##### 2. Got my HD5770 to work in 32Bit only mode via ##### 3. Updated OSX via Software Updater (incl. Graphics Update) 4. Using the boot File and the Vervet Framebuffer from this thread. 5. Checked the ATI5000Controller for the correct hardware ID of my card (OK) 6. Removed all kexts I don't need (which were installed by #####). Remaining kexts: fakesmc.kext IOAHCIBlockStorageinjector.kext JMicron36xATA.kext Legacy888HDA.kext Now my Sapphire HD5770 1GB works under 64Bit. Exepting PCIE 2.0 16x and some minor graphic failures. I don't think that QE is working. Current State: 1. Graphic Failures (see last post, also in the finder...) 2. Only PCIE 8x EDIT: Just checked my ATY_init.kext which doesn't contain the Vervet framebuffer. For 5700 Series only Uakari is available. Do I need to add or edit something in this file? PGHammer
I do have the same KP while installing the graphic update. This event indicated that your system is not ready to load and run all new kexts from the update. Perhaps some under-the-hood modification in iatkos broke the mapping in those kext. I did try with iatkos for weeks with no hope at all. THen, I switch to retail with ##### ATI, it works right at the first time. I did grab the retail DVD and I'm now running it patched to 10.6.4 (have *not* applied the Graphics Update yet until I'm sure I've roadblocked every possible cause of the dreaded Kitchen Pitchin). To minimize damage issues, I used DU to back it up to a spare hard drive I had sitting around (40GB ex-Dell WD Caviar PATA broke into three partitions - one for the DVD, one for priority updates and utilities, including, naturally, #####, and one for, eventually, 10.7 GM, which I will back up the same way). In /Extensions/Extra, I have a mere six kexts (two of which I don't use, and are from the #####/#####/##### run): the ones I know I use are EvOreboot, fakesmc, LegacyAppleRTC, and NullCPUPowerManagement (from Chameleon 2 RC5 build 611). The two wayward kexts (both from #####/#####/#####) are the JMicron ATA/SATA kexts (with Intel ICH7, I need neither). I now have a compiled DSDT (I'll rerun MB to properly apply it; while I do have it loaded in Chameleon 2 RC 5, I really need MB's UserDSDT to load it properly), albeit unpatched. (I know diddly about DSDT patching.) Hopefully I can narrow things down further. Additional data: I have indeed gotten things narrowed down. ATY_Init has been ejected, and I'm using a compiled (but unedited) DSDT. /Extra/Extensions is down to just four. I have not applied the Graphics Update yet; however, I do have 1600x1200 (better than 1400x1050 I had before). (Still no native 1920x1080 yet.) I have GraphicsEnabler=Yes/GraphicsMode=1920x1200x32 (a slight overscan, as the display has a native 1920x1080; however, setting 1920x1080 results in Kitchen Pitchin) and I'm in full 64-bit. My DSDT is attached. dsdt.aml.zip

Hi sch8mid, do U have sleep issue? My system auto wake up when the display going to sleep. Same system same OS, different display card and boot file can sleep before. Could U pls share your dsdt and extensions? My E/E only have IONetworkingFamily.kext by Lnx2Mac, JMicron 36xeSATA.kext and Legacy889HDA.kext. And the S/L/E have FakeSMC 4.0.5 and AppleHDA 889 patched. This morning it's can sleep suddenly! Hoha, everything ok!
TorqueX86
I thought it would be of use to post my experience here as I did on Kabyl's thread: With my card, a standard 5850, sleeping is ok, but wake from sleep will not get any picture back on my screen. I hope that helps, Cheers

I think I have some old edited files on my system, because of #####. I cannot reinstall my system because of my ata dvd drives. The 1st install was very strange, from an other IDE harddisk... usb etc. didn't work either. But that's not the point ^^ You mean that I've to delete the aty_init in System/Library/Extensions right? UPDATE 1. Deleted the aty_init from System/Library/Extensions --> Still no change = PCIE 8x instead of PCIE 2.0 16x 2. I've installed OpenGL Extension viewer. If I want to test the application crashes. UPDATE2 Without aty_init the new DSDT Version from tonymac works. But no change. Still the same problem. PGHammer
I've found a likely suspect for the problem with the HD5450 (and other Mobility-based GPUs) - the BIOSes themselves. I redid this Hack from scratch using a compiled (but stock) DSDT, ATY_Init is nowhere to be found on the system, and even with a patched ATIRadeonX3000.kext (the only one of the kexts without the card's ID), it never fails to cause Kitchen Pitchin. (Also, it still appears as a Megalodon-BIOS-based card; in other words, a half-speed/quarter-RAM HD4890.) The Mobility-based HD5xxx cards may just be unsuitable for the Graphics Update for Snow Leopard.

sch8mid
someone? mac ati cards usually are not clocked as high as their windows counterparts so modifying the bios may be good for Win 7 but not for OSX 10.6 I would try to flash it back to a lower clock(usually your problems will be gone after reflashing)
