It's Framebuffer, as in a frame of animation, a picture frame or your frame of mind or reference. Or a buffer that buffers frames.

Gringo,

I believe that Mohamed has contributed a great deal and is being very helpful to people.

Such a comment is not really necessary and is not in very nice taste, we are one community and as such need to work together harmoniously....

there are 30 frambuffer and you tried two !!

and did you get your card work with aty_init

I have the same card. It currently works with aty_init for vapor-x from netkas.

I haven't found a method to get this card working in 64-bit mode so far. Will try another FBs today. Are there also another fb recommendations for this card except of uakari?

Thanks!

Okay, got vapor-x 5870 working in 64 bit using vervet. I had named the graphics bios rom incorrectly.

Yes, I previously had this setup working using aty_init

But now I have a new problem.. I lost a choice of resolution. 1920x1200@85hz is no longer available! Why would that happen? I know my crt monitor supports it. Any ideas?

use uakari

to me when use vervet it works with my display resolution

when use uakari gave me resolution not for my display

so this mean you must choose the most compatible framebuffer for your card ;)

is there are CRT display work with aspect ratio 16/10 :P lol

Correct you are, my friend! Uakari works better and I now have 1920x1200@85hz resolution choice. (monitor is Sony FW900, a 24" 16:10 CRT)

Do I need to reinstall gfx update 1.0 each time after changing frame buffer/boot file?

Mohamed, Just wondering what the difference is between your bootloader and the other one in this forum for ati cards?

Yours detects both my ati 5770 cards, shows all info properly in system profiler, etc. But with yours I can't get two ati 5770 cards to work in the system, it always freezes Finder/System Preferences. But with his bootloader, both cards work (with the crossfire bridge still attached too), but it doesn't show all the profiler info properly.

You can peek here at my post:

Any ideas? Thanks.

Despite the effort:

nothing.

I rename the xxxxxxxx.bin file to 1002_68da.rom and put it into Extra.

I installed the latest Efibootloader, which is unstable....When changing boot file it disappears and had to be reinstalled......

Otherwise: 10.6.4 Vanilla install with HD5550 and 64 bit kernel boot, Graphic update applied...

Any more thoughts?

What's the function of ati.c.txt? I don't see anything in the instructions related to it.

EDIT: Installed according to the guide but failed, with 5670 on ex58A-ur3r, i7-930.

Fail cause: x3000 kext KP

did you tried all 30 framebuffers and if you did try use Kabyl bootloader

have a bug - mouse hangs every second...

does anyone know how to solve this problem?

what is your hardware specification

Here it is from PCI cards:Unknown:

Name: ATY,Megalodon

Type: display

Driver Installed: Yes

Bus: PCI

Slot: Slot-1

Vendor ID: 0x1002

Device ID: 0x68da

Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x1787

Subsystem ID: 0x2297

Revision ID: 0x0000

Link Width: x16

Link Speed: 2.5 GT/s

It is seen in Graphic area that some EFI driver is loaded.

Currently I have to resolve one KP after inserting device ID to ATI5000Contr.kext...

No problem....

I thought that something like that should be done anyway....

So, because I played around so much I decide to do a fresh install

The procedure used (working 100 %)

- install Leohazard 10.6.2

- Boot in Win and remove AppleTYMCE.kext (or something..)

- 10.6.2 fully working (except Graphics..)

-Combo update to 10.6.4

-Boot to windows again and remove Sleepenabler.kext

- Fully working 10.6.4 (Except graphics..)

Now:

ATI Rom extracted from Windows and .bin file renamed to 1002_68da.rom

File is put under \Extra

Downloaded Startup selector which shows what byte system is used (everything, including Kernel)

64 bit kernel boot selected

Restart (Snow loads perfectly)

Graphics:

HD 5000 series cards are using HD5000Controller (as driver) and X3000 (for QE, etc), right?

There is no need to put Device ID in any other kexts?

Last time problems:

I did put Device ID in those two but I end up with non bootable system at all.

if your problem is kernel panic try other boot files there are 30 files with different framebuffers
