Hoopster
I just wanted to report that I have successfully installed 10.6.4 vanilla on a Gigabyte p55-usb3 rev 2.0, and list what I did to get it working. Problems are. Restart and shutdown freeze on boot, but using the physical button on the computer works fine. Here is my hardware. Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 rev 2.0 Graphics card Nividia geforce 9800 gtx+ CPU Core i5-750 For the install I used the ##### + ##### method and follow this guide http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/ibo...ac-os-x-on.html With easy beast checked. The kext I used for the onboard lan is the RealtekR1000SL.kext. For audio I used VoodooHDA 0.2.2. For graphics I used NVenabler. And thats how I did the install I hope this helps people getting this board working. grafixidea
Great! - Did you used the ##### nvidia or ##### supported? - Did you used a retail 10.6 dvd and then updated using 10.6.4 compo update from apple? If it possible please attache the kexts files you used or even give links. I'm going to build almost the same specs. I used ##### supported for a vanilla install which I Highly recommend. Yes I used a retail 10.6 dvd and then updated using 10.6.4 compo update from apple. And the ReltekR1000SL is the only kext that doesn't come in #####. NOTE: ##### supported is the only version of ##### that gives you a vanilla install and kernel which means it doesn't change the kernel which allows you to do software updates from apple more easily, ##### supported requires a apple supported CPU so I recommend using a supported CPU and doing a vanilla install. I believe the supported CPU are mentioned in the guide I linked to in my previous post Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/230193-build-success-p55-usb3/#findComment-1537865 Share on other sites
msingh
Does that mean you have to shut down your hard disk uncleanly each time ? Can't possibly be doing wonders for your hard disk's lifetime. I'm sure theres probably a fix for it I just haven't figured it out yet. Hoopster
A DSDT install only causes kernel panic if you have already done an ##### install and have not removed the extras folder. Doing a DSDT install does not fix the restart and shutdown issue, for me at least. I'm sure theres probably a fix for it I just haven't figured it out yet. Until all the fans, lights and sounds are out, you cannot be certain. You could in principle (this can be dangerous) use a multimeter to track the voltage on the SATA power cable as you do what you describe above, to see if the harddisks are getting any power, or see if there is some other way to directly monitor hard disk activity. I am considering buying the motherboard you are using but this gives me pause. I want to be able to properly sleep, hibernate, reboot and shutdown the rig I want to build (otherwise, what is the point ? I already have hackintosh laptops that do some of these things). Post if you find a fix. Thanks. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/230193-build-success-p55-usb3/#findComment-1538445 Share on other sites
bryan51
So .. I just tried this. I used the iATKOS 10.6.3 v2 DVD without any options checked. + ##### ##### Sound and Graphics(Nvidia GTX260) worked I've tried both the Realtek Kexts but still don't have internet working. Also the drive starts to boot and at the Grey screen just before the spinner it crashes and reboots. But I can get into it with the ##### disc ok... Must be an easy fix for this? Then there are the shutdown issues. Any ideas on fixing the booting issue? Also which two kexts did you use for the ethernet? If all else fails Id buy a retail install dvd it could be a problem using a hacked install.
