Hi fiox89,

I have the two cards in the Graphical list, the nVidia GeForce 310 seems to be correct loaded.

I can't use only the nVidia card, because the Intel HD GPU is direct connected to nVidia one, so they both need to be on.

So no QE and with VGA output: 1152x864.

Sorry if I confused.

Yes i know, but if the nvidia card is correctly loaded, you can try this gfxCardStatus.

Maybe this can switch between the video card, it is only an attempt...

p.s. for me this gfxCardStatus not work, but my osx does not see 2 video card

Tried that, seems to only work with a Geforce 9400M or older than that.

It can't switch..

You happen to know what is needed to boot lion? I haven't seen any "process" for it. My guess my system could... I have legit access to...

Well, I'm talking about Sandy Bridge systems. As far as I can tell they're a little hit and miss as far as supported CPUs and getting a bootloader to successfully start the installation. Your laptop will install Lion no prob but the Arrandale GPU is a little different, and as I mentioned in an earlier post, isn't likely to load the same set of kexts.

It's good that the Sandy Bridge Intel HD Graphics 2000/3000 is being worked on (and it seems that progress is being made) and hopefully some of that work can be ported to the Arrandale Intel HD Graphics.

I hope us users using the Arrandale Intel HD Graphics aren't left out in the cold. :(

Well the old Info.plist edit trick is certainly worth trying for you guys! If you want to give it a shot follow tonymac's instructions for installing the 2011 Macbook Pro 10.6.7 update and when you get to the point where it's installed and will boot into single user, use the attached bootloader (with .txt extension removed) and try editing the AppleIntelSNB* plist files. I suppose there's also a chance that the AppleIntelHD* will come to life with the ACPI keys injected by the bootloader, so for someone who wants to expirement there's lots to try.

When you say a 10.6.0 dmg I'm guessing you mean some sort of hackintosh distribution like iDeneb. I would suggest that it is always a good idea to start with a retail DVD and the bare minimum kexts, usually just fakesmc. Then get your system updated to the version you're shooting for with a boot CD or USB like #####. Only at at that point is it a good idea to install whatever bootloader and add the kexts needed to support your hardware. Just my $.02.

Kyle, thnx for the advice, but im using a retail dvd, i dont know why i said dmg :S, well, whatever, sorry for that... and in the other hand I installed the retail dvd with a boot cd and the install always ALWAYS failed at the end of the process, I think is bc my system is i3, but still is capable to boot correctly with the same boot cd, and the system looks very stable, thats sounds weird I know... i think the kp that i got when im trying to update through the 10.6.6 combo is because of that, but well, if somebody knows a good install method for i3, i'll be glad to try that...

Thank you very much, your help is highly appreciate!!!

@irako

What Boot CD did u use?

#####? It looks like your errors are from missing SMC device I think u gonna need FakeSMC. But normally it is integrated in ##### EmpireEfi etc. ...

Try first to update to 10.6.3 than to 10.6.6/10.6.7

Also u should not use stock kernel. If u did nit use ##### try it.

For me it works great.

Now, tonymac have locked the discussion.....

"You are not authorised to read this forum"

..why? :censored2:

Good question. They said something about bringing it back after doing testing.

I already posted the compiled boot loader. Here is the patch. I may update this later if I get a chance to play around with what portion of it is the minimum necessary change.

Hi Kyle,

Thanks so much for the good work. Since i never got to see the tonymacx86 post before it was taken down, can you post here the process for getting this to work?

I am using your boot file on 10.6.6 MBP install. When it gets to the point where it loads the desktop i see some corruption on the screen and then it goes black. I am sure i am missing some steps besides just using the bootloader.

I dont need a full fledged guide, just a list or some simple instructions on what combination of files and settings are needed to get sandy bridge graphics working. When i install an 8600GT the system boots fine and is fully working.

Thanks!

Sure. I'm running the 10.6.7 2011 MBP update with the latest nawcom Legacy kernel (since my i3 doesn't seem to be compatible with vanilla 2011 MBP kernels). I also found that I had to revert my System.kext and IOPCIFamily.kext to something compatible with this kernel. My only kernel boot argument is "busratio=21".

I edited my DSDT with some fairly standard modifications (not graphics related as far as I know), but also renamed my GFX0 to IGPU (along with all references to such) to match an ioreg dump that I found for Macbookpro8,1. Then I did the bootloader patch to inject ACPI keys. I guess everything could be done from DSDT, but Chameleon injectors seem to be the way things are going these days.

My kextstat shows that I have both AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB and AppleIntelHDGraphics loaded (but not AppleIntelHDGraphicsFB). When I first got it to work I was running single user and trying kextload on these two kexts manually, and I noticed that they have to be done in the right order. Can't remember what that is now - it's working with a normal boot and without any further changes.

I do get some screen corruption (especially after a warm reboot), but it is pretty minimal. Someone should experiment with the Chameleon patch (which is against the latest svn rev of the valv branch, btw) to see which parts are truly necessary. And maybe that will help with the corruption problem.

The Asus K53E seems to have fairly compatible hardware. I've got everything but sleep and external VGA working. The trackpad is recognized by VoodooPS2 as a mouse only (leaving me no way to disable tap to click), but the stock wifi and even the SD card reader work. There is a somewhat annoying, occasional unresponsiveness that lasts about 1 second, which I suspect is due to the need for a Legacy kernel. Perhaps this could be resolved by changing what parts of the Legacy patchset are used.

edit: oh, sorry, I never actually said the result: native res, res switching and QE/CI are possible on my machine with this bootloader. and yes, this is with sandy bridge.
