JBraddock
Mammoth to add to your collection got my ATI Mobility 5650m working 1366x768 QE/CI using 10.7 kexts and Eulemur as FB. Now will investigate this popping sound thing with AppleHDA unless it's been resolved? If you have popping sound, chances are you have IRQ conflicts in your DSDT or problem with the speed step (overclocking, fsb fix, bootloader etc.). Also AppleHDA may not be modified properly. Not that I know how to do it but I am just delivering what I came across so far. Good luck, @Manmal, I writing a small guide about the recent updates and progress I've made recently on HP HDX. I believe that most of the fixes might apply to those who have Core 2 Duo processor, ICH9 chipset and/or an HP laptop. So I suggest people take a look at that post and see if there is anything relevant to them. Here is the post. I'll hope to finish it during the weekend. Also, I would like to give a link to your recent guide to show how to install OSX if you allow me to. I'll not going into that and leave it to you. As we discussed earlier may be we can create a boot disk with the Extra folder I'll share.
Mammoth
Quick question to Mammoth: The new USB boot "disk" is going to have to be restored to a USB via Disk Utility right? No way of doing it from Windows? Don't worry. If all you have is a Windows machine, YES, I already have details in v2.00 of how to do it. You're covered! ; ) Mammoth to add to your collection got my ATI Mobility 5650m working 1366x768 QE/CI using 10.7 kexts and Eulemur as FB. Now will investigate this popping sound thing with AppleHDA unless it's been resolved? Still not resolved if machine is set to MacBook Pro, 6,1 (or 6,2), which I feel is most close to our machines. Setting to 3,1 doesn't have the problem, supposely 4,x also works, but haven't tried. Some types work, others do not, but I want to use what SHOULD be correct, and belive it's 6,2. Correct me if I'm wrong. If you have popping sound, chances are you have IRQ conflicts in your DSDT or problem with the speed step (overclocking, fsb fix, bootloader etc.). As I've been saying, v2.00 is a quantum leap forward. It is very extensible, meaning it will be easy to port just about any machine to it, even non-HP, other laptops, desktops, etc. So hang tight just a little bit longer people. I'm putting a lot of work and time into this and taking a lot into consideration. It's going to be worth the wait, and I think the impact is going to be far and wide and not just for DVx machines. No errors, no KP’s, perfect! After install copy the fakesmc and nullcpu kext to installed drive then boot no probs. HP DV6-3132TX Core i7
thenk
Hey guys, first of all I just want to thank everyone who's put into this project, it's quite well put together and it looks like Mammoth really knows his stuff. I'd love to wait for v2.00 but I really want to install OSX as soon as possible. So I will need to format my drive and get OS X installed, I was hoping I could track down all the necessary kext's and perhaps a DSDT to suit my laptop (I have created one with tools but been stuck at some error I can't figure out). One thing I wondered was exactly what happens when you run without a DSDT to suit - does it run strangely or overheat etc? I notice that atlee has just mentioned he has gotten this video card (Radeon Mobility HD 5650) to work which seems to have been a feat, could someone point me towards the source of these 10.7 kexts? Other than that I have a very similar laptop to atlee (identical I think, maybe his RAM is quicker) - and he seems to have gotten it working perfectly so that's very encouraging! Thanks for any help you guys can give me straight up

Not that I use it a lot but if there is a stable driver around I would like to use it. Anyone?

Thanks for any help you guys can give me straight up Wow your laptop is pretty dead on close to my model. Yeah my laptop does run sweet. Stick with Snow Leopard, If you want Lion without injectors you will enjoy a 640x480 desktop, You would need a DSDT with ATI 5650 fix which i may work on later. @Also regarding that sound popping issue, i'm sure it is that RTC thing where you modify the 0x1 and change them both to 2 or something like that a long those lines, I used to have a Gigabyte X58-UDR3 and the RTC fixed it from popping, Quite a lot can be learnt from d00d's DSDT fixes. I run 10.6.6 using Legacy_kernel but you can run mach_kernel and use Meklort's RC5 branch which has the CPU apic fix. But I find running Legacy a lot easier. Thing's i'm still working on, Webcam I will be able to make it work OOTB. Memory card reader works OOTB just doesn't show in profiler. And also will look into the biometric system that comes Let me work on a DSDT and i will be happy to share it, 5650m works in 10.6.6 using an injector but 10.7 doesnt pick it up so i will have to do a DSDT fix for the 5650m. Mine isn't perfect but i'm sure Mammoth is more switched on then me regarding the DVx series.
Mammoth
Hey all, I'm hoping someone out there can help me test something. I was going to do some 2-drive internal testing, but I don't have the secondary cable needed to connect the 2nd drive internally. So what I need is someone to do a somewhat simple test who does have the 2 drive capability: - Remove the primary drive that has working Windows 7 on it but not Chameleon or OS X. In other words, a Windows 7 only drive. - Put in a different drive as primary, either with Chameleon and OS X on it, or install them. - Then put the Windows 7 drive in as the secondary drive. - On boot, does Chameleon now see both OS X and Windows 7? Are you able to boot Windows 7? - If not, are you able to make it work this way? I'm thinking it will, but may need a little tweaking here and there to get it working. I do plan on getting the cable kit, but I would not be able to receive it in time before the release of v2.00, so hoping someone out there CAN test this so I can quickly at that procedure to the guides. Thanks!

I think your guide told me to run pfix first then chamextup which i did. I just looked and found a mouse but of course it was a ps/2 mouse which does me no good. Ill try the -f command right now and see what happens

Mammoth
STATUS UPDATE ON v2.00 Hey everyone, Things are going.... GREAT! Essentially finished all the guides today! (But there is still a little work to do on them). Now I must start with Guide Part 1 and begging a test installation, going all the way though the entire process and all the guides, just as you will soon be doing. Doing this I will find errors and correct them, make sure explanations are as clear as possible, make sure everything works, as documented, etc. In other words, it's QA time! I am also now finalizing all the files that will be used on the initial v2.00 MIIF. A MIIF is a Mammoth (or Machine) Installation Image File and a MIID is a Mammoth (or Machine) Installation Image Device. A MIID represents any physical installation device, which will most commonly be a USB flash drive / SD card or an external USB drive, but open to other device, present and future. You will use MIIFs to create your MIIDs. I am hoping I can meet a Sunday release (US date and time), and don't think I can finish everything anytime sooner. I know everyone is eagerly (even anxiously) awaiting the release, as am I, but I won't release until it's ready, so I am just preparing everyone in case I MUST slip to Monday, Tuesday, or GOD FORBID, any later! I hate being disappointed, and I hate disappointing others, so I am seriously doing little else in life but work on our v2.00. I am HIGHLY motivated to finish in time for a Sunday release! UNDERSTAND PLEASE THE FOLLOWING! #1 With version 2.00, ALL MACHINES that are capable of installing OS X and running WILL be supported by v2.00 That being said, here is the caveat #2 Not all machines will work OOTB, INITIALLY, on release day of v2.00. This is because we need to craft DSDTs for some machines we haven't done this for yet. There may be other compatibility issues with your particular machine, say with some kext files, or other configuration related issues. WE WILL SORT these out, we will be building a new file library with needed files to make EVERY machine work! #3 One of the main things that makes v2.00 so different and important is that it is a PLATFORM based release. This is what will allow us the ability to get ANY compatible machine working. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS If your machine is one of the ones that will not work right away and more work will be required to make it work, how do we deal with the space between having a working machine as you may previously have had, and having v2.00 that isn't working? - First, understand you must have the v2.00 platform in order to work to build upon it. - While I don't cover in the guides how to install to an external USB hard drive, if you are able to make this work, then you could build upon this, then once working, could make the jump to installing to the internal hard drive. - What is supported in the guides is installing a different internal hard drive, and using this as your test environment. If you already have a great running machine, and need to keep it that way, having a working drive and a test drive I think is a great solution. You can use your working drive when you need a working machine, then when you have time, you can swap drives with your v2.00 test drive and continue to work on it. Drives are cheap these days, REALLY cheap, so this is what I recommend. So that’s it for now. I’ve got to get back to work now, so enjoy your weekends everyone! RunningJumper
What changes would have to be made to the installation method when there are 2 HD's on the system and you want to keep Windows 7 on the primary HD and install Mac OS x on the second HD for dual booting. I've read up on removing the Windows 7 hard drive and any memory above 4 Gb during the Mac Os x installation. But I'm not certain how the dual booting with Chameleon would work since it would be on the secondary hard drive. Or whether in addition to installing it on it's own partition on the secondary HD if I also install it within windows on the primary HD? I am running a dual drive setup on my DV7. The OSX drive is the primary drive and my Win7 is on the secondary drive. Chameleon is installed on the OSX drive and you select which OS to load at bootup. It works very well and is easier than repartioning(and possibly corrupting)your Windoes drive.

atlee
@Mammoth I will be more then happy to teach anyone who would like to install to an external, Very easy, the only difference is manually having to install new revision chamelon's because most packages install to the volumes root, whereas USB like myself the drive is split into EFI of around 200mb, then osx partition. So I manually do the boot0 and boot1h to the osx then set EFI as active. If Chams are all RC5, normally i can just copy the boot to the drive. Straight forward with instructions, Installing to an external is just like an internal really. Is my model supported by v2.00 or am I way too late
NIXin
I am fairly certain that Chameleon MUST be on the primary drive... however as CableGuy187 says, you probably could put Chameleon on the 2nd drive, but would have to use F9 (or F12 and then F9), and select the 2nd drive to boot. 1) Put Chameleon on the primary, 1st drive. Reason: Chameleon becomes the "gateway" to all other installed OSs. Placing on the primary drive means you won't have to press F9 EVERY TIME you boot your machine. This is not entirely correct. You can change the default boot device in BIOS to other disks first. For example - I have OS X installed on an external HDD connected by eSATA by an ExpressCard. Our HPs will boot from that external HDD first, if setup properly. Alternatively, if you've got Chameleon installed on a USB stick / SD Card with a USB Card Reader (booting from internal card reader does not work) you can boot from that too and then it doesn't matter where you have OS X installed. Note that for some stupid reason, HP doesn't allow automatic booting from the internal eSATA port, so that will only work by pressing F9 when you boot. When using ExpressCard eSATA or USB3.0 adapter though, you will get those options and you can set them up for every boot - that way, when you have your external disk connected, it will go to Chameleon, otherwise it will boot from your alternative disk (in my case Windows and Linux). Is this OK and preferred ? //Peter Good job on your sig! Hey that's good news; HP is making the 18.4" model again? Your specs are exactly like mine, so current DV8 DSDT should work perfect for you. When you get your machine, I would recommend backing up the drive(s) BEFORE turning it on. I have updated information on how to do this in the new v2.00 that may make it easier for you. Then, if you could try just moving your primary Windows 7 drive to secondary, the other drive to primary, then wipe out the primary and install Chameleon & OS X to it and see if it all works. If so, I think this is the best way for everyone to do this. No need to mess with Windows 7 at all then, just install Chameleon & OS X and you're done! Maybe there will need to be a little tweaking here and there, but that should be it. Hey people, exciting discovery: This is an excerpt from the new v2.00 DSDT Guide: It might be possible that all HP machines using the same BIOS download file names (such as sp49106.exe for DV8 BIOS F.25) could use the same DSDT. This is something we need to test. If this is true, or even mostly true, this would be awesome! Then we could simply list DSDTs in our DSDT library something like this: SP49106 BIOS F.25: v1.05 download link to DSDT For: DV8t-1100 DV8t-1200 DV8-1290eo Etc. Thanks to Peter_sm posting an awesome sig, I was able to quickly confirm this may be true. His F.25 BIOS IS the same file as my DV8t-1100 vf836av! So for sure our existing DV8 DSDT will work for your machine Peter_sm so v2.00 should work flawlessly for you. (Well, other than our 1 drive vs. 2 drive questions). But as a 1 drive system, flawless. Fortunately, the whitelist hack will not affect, or require changes to, the DSDT. But I will mention that in the guides. LogicPro
As I was backing up my HD preparing to format and repartition the drive with Chameleon on its own partition so I could keep Windows 7 Professional on the primary drive for the Mac Os x dual boot with Mac Os x on the secondary drive, I was doing more research on the keyboard workstation I was ready to purchase (Roland Fantom G8) before I parted with the $3,500. During this research I stumbled upon this magnificent beast created by a new company called Music Computing, which I now have my heart set on getting. Pictured here is the 61-key. I'll be getting the 88-key of course. 3.3 Ghz Intel Core i5 650 processor, Windows 7 64 bit, 8 Gb of ram and 2 x 2Tb HD's. This would totally replace using my DV8T for my music production and recording. But I have the same issue because of Apple being the scum bags they are Logic Pro no longer runs in Windows. So I will truly put v2.0 to the test attempting get Mac Os x and Logic Pro running seamlessly on my StudioBlade. Probably won't be ordering it for another 2 months because I'm leaving the country for a bit, but I'm trying to get in touch with the manufacturer to see what motherboard and sound card is used in the system. I know your busy Mammoth but could you give a brief summary of how v2.0 will be so streamlined it can be used to get Mac Os x installed and running smoothly on virtually any system?
