pablo101
Ok I see where the direction you're going is with the USB bootable etc. However I myself only have a 4GB USB stick which got me thinking. I have an iphone 16gb but we all know doesn't act like a USB drive. However a quick google (after an even quicker brain wave) I discovered if you're iphone is JB like mine is you can get a program off Cydia to make the iphone act like a usb drive and even better make a clean partition. I just tested it, restored the ##### to partition 1 and snow leopard install dvd-dl to partition 2, hey presto it worked! No need to buy any more usb sticks for me!! Might be helpful for others too!! Instructions here http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=5437 So now when you release your new boot disk, l'll just restore it to partition 1 and carry on with the same snow leopard on partition 2. Should be very quick and simple for me

pablo101
Thanks It's not often I get brain waves lol. Some users might find it a bit confusing if they've not got a jailbreak but perhaps as a helpful hint if they haven't got any large USB sticks to hand then it's a possible way forward

The new method will allow changes to be made so that ALL machines CAN be made to work with it. It will be a matter of getting the correct DSDT and maybe some other setting adjustments. But if a machine IS compatible with OS X, then it WILL be able to work with 2.00. @mammothany update? so we can have like this countdown? lol I am shooting for the release to be sometime this weekend, or sooner, if possible. I am making very good progress, but it's amazing just how many loose ends you find as you get closer to the end. Once I'm at the point where I have done several test installs following my own documentation, and everything is working, and when I'm just making final edits and corrections to the guides, I will be able to give a release date that SHOULD stick. So if all goes well, this weekend, or sooner. Ok, now... back to work on v2.00!

LogicPro
What changes would have to be made to the installation method when there are 2 HD's on the system and you want to keep Windows 7 on the primary HD and install Mac OS x on the second HD for dual booting. I've read up on removing the Windows 7 hard drive and any memory above 4 Gb during the Mac Os x installation. But I'm not certain how the dual booting with Chameleon would work since it would be on the secondary hard drive. Or whether in addition to installing it on it's own partition on the secondary HD if I also install it within windows on the primary HD?

This IS something that has been asked before by others, but since I have never had a need for this, I never looked into it. I would like to add a procedure for doing this in the guides though. With v2.00, there is no longer a memory limit of 4 GB during installation. So if you have 8 GB (or more), that's fine, you won't have to remove modules. Like I said, I have never looked into this but tell me, if you had it the other way around, the 1st hard drive with Chameleon & OS X, and the 2nd one with Windows 7, would that work for you? If so, I can see that working very easily (and now that you have brought this up, I will probably test this and add to the release if it works). I know you currently have your Windows 7 on your primary drive, but I am fairly certain we could move it to the secondary without having to do a re-install. So let me know ASAP if that would work for you.

Ok so...I would like to keep the drive running Windows 7 as the primary because I will only be using Mac Os x to run Logic Studio for music production. The primary drive is currently divided into the 3 stock partitions The 1st and largest partition of 448 Gb contains Windows 7, the second a 16.8 Gb partition which contains the factory recovery image of 2.74 Gb (why they made this partition so large for that I don't know), and the 3rd partition of only 99 Mb containing HP Tools. I was thinking I could probably repartition the second partition to give Chameleon it's own partition on that HD, but wasn't sure if it had to have partition number 1 on the drive in order function properly. I will say that if I am required to wipe the drive repartition & restore my disc image that won't be a problem. I may do it anyway to recover the wasted Gb in the factory recovery partition. cableguy187
Probably not the ideal solution but i just use F12 (or whatever your boot-device shortcut is) and select my drive.. It just....works.

I am fairly certain that Chameleon MUST be on the primary drive... however as CableGuy187 says, you probably could put Chameleon on the 2nd drive, but would have to use F9 (or F12 and then F9), and select the 2nd drive to boot. So I am thinking just about every desired combination should work, and it would be up to each person to configure as they see fit. As far as the guides go and what I will recommend: 1) Put Chameleon on the primary, 1st drive. Reason: Chameleon becomes the "gateway" to all other installed OSs. Placing on the primary drive means you won't have to press F9 EVERY TIME you boot your machine. 2) Your choice: - Put OS X on the 1st or 2nd drive - Put Windows 7 on your 1st or 2nd drive - Or put them both on either drive The only requirement is to put Chameleon on the 1st drive (unless you want to press F9 every boot). I will be testing all of this out and will add to the guides. Thanks for bringing this up!

Mammoth
No problem and thank you. Looking forward to 2.0. In the mean time I will go ahead and restructure my primary HD making the 1st partition a 1 Gb Chameleon partition. Does it even matter what partition number Chameleon is on a HD? Well, it has to be an HFS+ (OS X) partition, and pretty sure it has to be the first partition... sort of; the installation process of Chameleon / OS X WILL create a normally hidden, very small, EFI partition which is technically the 1st partition, we just never see it under normal use, Chameleon then technically is the 2nd; however, for all intents and purposes, we see and work with Chameleon as being "the 1st partition". Under OS X you can see this EFI partition by doing a: diskutil list It's about 200 MB I have never done an in-place (or preserving and existing) Windows 7 installation of Chameleon and OS X. However, as coincidence would have it, that is the part of v2.00 I have been working on for the last 2 days. So the information above is about all I can help you with at this point. I am hoping I can work out all the issues quickly, find a good way to do this, document it, and then continue onwards. Make sure you backup your system before messing too much with all of this! Let me know if you make any discoveries that may help me out and potentially get me back on schedule. Thanks!

pablo101
I have 2x HDs and currently have OS X + windows on both. However it's only rough right now because l'm not perfecting it until V2 is out. But let me share some things I encountered: 1) I can't select my "second HD" from F9 to boot from, it's just not an option, I ALWAYS have to boot from the primary 2) I have windows on primary 3) On secondary i made 2 partitions, 1st for Chameleon and 2nd for OS X 4) I then installed EasyBCD and added a boot entry for OS X, not pretty I know but it got round the fact of having windows on primary Now when I boot, if i pick OS X then it jumps to the Chameleon partition and lets me then pick OS X to boot from. Like l said, not pretty and not what I will be having come this weekend...

VoRTeX15O
My country is changing via facebook and twitter30 years of dictator ends by youth with the help of facebook and twitter cnet Amid unrest, Egypt goes offline (roundup) technology and communication makes my country free :D Sorry everyone, i just want to spread my happiness to everyone i know and love Hey Yehia. Finally contacting you and I am not sure what is happening in Egypt--is it for the better? I wanted to ask you since last December 2010, whether you are still running SL? I first bought my dv6-2190us from HP last summer and obviously nothing was out to run snow leopard for it. I came across your posts and have downloaded your boot-cd for my laptop and SL boots and loads. I made a mistake of reformatting and turning to tonymac's boot-cd reinstalling SL. How did you get your ACPI to run correctly? My CPU runs hotter as there's no power management ACPI to efficiently manage better than windows 7. I saw how HP laptops have error when generating DSDT files. How about your DSDT? how did you get it fixed? Does your laptop run hot? I was able to load the dsdt.kext in 10.6.4 and saved it to run it on 10.6.5 since the 10.6.5 dsdt.kext won't load.
