Hi Mammoth,

I was wondering, when you release the CD, can I just put my files in itand use it just like that.

First, 1) Would you allow me to do that and 2) is it that simple?

Thanks,

Hi JBraddock,

Remember in The Matrix when the kid told Neo "There is no spoon."? Well, there is no CD. ;)

Release v2.00 is a pure USB based process. So yes, it will be very easy to add and change files. It's going to be really awesome. If you haven't already, get the "Getting Ready" guide I recently released on the post #1 page. It details the process and you can make a USB version of the current v1.15 CD to test and try it all out.

:)

Hi Mammoth,

have you problems , when battery is zero, going from sleep to hibernate and resuming it from hibernate, that dvdrom disappears (i mean if i put any cd/dvd inside it doesn't work until reboot) and usb not working after resume from hibernate too (same behaviour, usb not working until a do a reboot)?

If you don't have such problem, how to solve it?

Please note that hibernate itself works, as sleep itself work. The only problem occur when going from sleep to hibernate, and , perhaps sometimes , from battery to ac-power and vice-versa.

May you please try if it works for you or not?

Thanks!

Mal

I have not observed that behavior, but I don't think I have had the battery that low. Anyone else seen this?

Hi Guys,

what kind of battery do you really get in average?

here, from 100% to 15% on the dv7, i7, 50% battery. just browsing the web,. it takes about 1H 40m.

is this about right?

Everything works great but the battery is killing me.

Note that i do not use any cstates/pstates etc, as i can't get that to work on my laptop.

Let me know your results!

Hello DJXcrx88,

We don't use TonyMac here at all. We have our own, customized and specialized method for recent model HP Pavilion laptops. I don't (can't) support mixed methods and I don't encourage other to do so either (not in this thread anyway). Basically, it's off topic here.

You have 2 choices, continue with TonyMac and his user base on his site, or you are more than welcome to join us here and use Mammoth method v2.00, which I should be able to release very soon now.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

With version 2.00, you will have cstates/pstates working and should get much better battery life.

Yeah, that's understandable and because there are differences between machines, some large, it's very hard to get a "one size fits all"; actually it's not possible. Once version 2.00 is released, there will be some machines 100% supportable at release, but others we will have to work with 2.00, and create custom DSDTs (possibly some tweaks to other files and settings will be needed) for the more troubled machines.

I do feel that most late model DV machines should be able to work, we will just have to find the right combo to "unlock" them.

Hey mammoth, got a question for you, following your 1.5a guide for now while I'm anticipating your 2.0 release, I can't get the computer to boot from the usb, my boot menu sees it but fails to load, I'm assuming I didn't apply the dmg correctly, right now I did the following steps

Formatted my 32gb sandisk with fat32, them open trans mac and select the drive and click format with image, it gives me an error about the image not being expanded to do that now, so I expand it and then use the output dmg to the flash drive but this doesnt work..

I also tried the boot cd instead and it reboots immediately when it says starting darwin x86..it also gives errors about not finding dsdt or smbios files but in your guide it says nothing about changing files around.

Aldo do u know of anyway to check what version the install disk is before installing it. Hopefully thru windows or transmac??

EDIT

Also I have removed 2gb of memory so I'm only running 4 when trying to install

--sent from my EVO 4g

Uhhhh, why are using TransMac and why are you formatting as FAT32? I think there might be some confusion with the 2 USB devices: 1 of the devices is being used as standard flash drive the way we use them every day. You put the .DMG file on it to move from one machine over to your laptop, and that's all that one does. That one, if it comes from a Windows machine, can be formatted FAT32. Now the other USB device, your 32 GB one, THAT'S the one you are going to make your bootable USB device out of. That one you DON'T set as FAT32, you read the file from the "flash drive" then restore it to THAT other drive. You do this following the steps that start on page 12.

There is a new version of this guide coming that makes all of this much clearer. Let me know if this is what happened.

Yea my boot usb wont boot if I just put your mammoth usb boot dmg on it. Thats why I was using trans mac to un pack the dmg to put all the files on the usb. I opened the dmg and it looks like there is a boot file inside which is why I did it the way I did. I just formatted it with fat32 to erase everything that was on it, then used transmac to format with image, after it completes windows cant open the usb but transmac shows it as an hfs+ drive with all your files on it, however when I select to boot using usb drive it looks and doesnt find anything and continues to boot on the next boot device. Im guessing I'm doing something wrong, I want to use the usb so I can replace some files, your boot cd.gives me errors about not finding dsdt or smbios the kps and reboots as soon as it says starting darwin x86

Hey Guys,

I've tried a few things now to get installed but as yet to no avail.

Is my machine compatible at all or should I just give up?

I have the pavillion dv7-2273cl (USA) (VM192UA)

spec in my signature.

I've tried a usb booting method with a 300mb with the mammoth dvxtUSBv1.15a image.

and a retail snow leopard on another partition on teh same usb key.

I get it to boot but i eventually get to a "still waiting for root device" error that it never gets past.

I have matched my bios boot settings to that in the guides, and also tried other combinations to no avail.

am I to understand that the only thing i wont be able to get working here is the intel 5100wireless, i dont mind this as i am usually wired and have several usb wifi sticks anyway)

I used the windows utility to grab my dsdt.aml although i have as of yet done nothing with that.

It seems like my machine just doesnt want to know haha.

any suggestions would be really appreciated.

thanks

Brad

Your machine should work, you have the specs that work best (as being close to my machine). It just sounds like you are not understanding something in the guide.

I would go over it carefully, following it to the letter. If you get to a part that you're not sure about, ask me about it. It really should work and other with your system have got it to work.

Your issue looks to be related to power management. As a test, go into Energy Saver and disable everything in both battery and A/C.

I think your machine should work, but the ATI GPU is the wild card. Don't give up, but you may be better off waiting for the release of v2.00 (which is just a few days away now). ; )

Thanks for the fast responses, im sure i am missing something simple, been running on no sleep and then trying to get this thing to install, bound to be errors. Also i dont have any mac disks that i physically purchased (no stores close at all to me) so i need to know if there is a way to check what version the disk is... I think one of my problems might be a 10.6.0 disk but when i got it it was claimed to be a 10.6.3 disk. Appreciate the help again

quick update, i got your boot cd to boot up in another laptop was able to format my usb in disk utility set up 3 partitions first was 300mb that i applied the bootusb image to, second was for 7.7gb for osx as per your instructions in the getting ready guide. the last partition was for the remainder.

Now it wouldnt boot up at all, i tried with guid and mbr, my laptop just wont boot from it, i have checked my bios numerous times and also forced to boot from usb first by f9, also have tried every usb port. but when i boot with the cd with the flash drive inserted chameleon sees the usb boot disk with the mammothusbboot, so i dont know whats going on, and if i try to boot from there with the boot usb it says mach_kernel not found.. Cant wait for 2.0, hopefully i dont have a cursed laptop or something

finally got osx installed now but havent completed any other of the steps yet, trying to read through and figure the 1.15a steps to make sure i do it all right. i will say its working alot better now, i think some of my problems were the f1d bios that were installed so i downgraded back to f1c and got a different copy of osx and now its working. Thanks for all that you have done and still looking forward to v2.0

Glad to hear it Franky_402!

It was probably the new copy of OS X. You should try updating the BIOS again and see if everything still works.

Hi guys, great thread. I am taking ownership of a DV8 on Tuesday (YAY!) and want to install OsX. I am trudging my way through the pages as fast as possible, (only up to page 10 so far) and regarding DSDT business. What exactly do I need to do to generate my own customised version? I am a little confused with the posts.

Welcome Pablo101!

Save your time! As Apple likes to say, "Everything is about to change... again." ;)

I will be releasing version 2.00 FOR SURE with in the coming week. Go out, enjoy the rest of your weekend, and wait for 2.00 which is really going to be awesome!

If you really want to do SOMETHING though, get and read the Getting Ready Guide from the first post. That is very important to version 2.00.
