OK, so I guess the speakers popping has a greater impact than I first thought. The speakers pop when they are no longer active, which I guess most of us figured out already. What I just noticed tho is that when that happens, other audio channels also stop working.

I switched from built in speakers to line out and listened to some stuff on my headphones. As soon as I heard the built in speakers pop, my headphones went all quiet as well. I was able to reproduce this every single time.

Not sure if this is old news, but not being able to use my headphones sucks. I hope people who are far smarter than I am can figure this one out!

If you properly change the system version to 3,1, the popping goes away... but I think doing that causes another issue... I can't remember right now. I do KNOW for sure that I have changed it to 3,1 and indeed the popping goes away. This is NOT limited to our machines, but applies to many (or all).

Meklort's patch code is only 32-bit at the moment but I still have some work to get all of my Kext's to 64-bit anyway. I compiled up a 32/64 version of AppleACPIBatteryManager last night to replace VoodooBattery so that is one down! I also was able to do away with SleepEnabler and NullCPUManagement as well, but I still need to work on my DSDT to get/verify Speedsteeping and get sleep working (damned EC is waking up instantly)

Thanks for giving us a better Battery kext ! VoodooBattery is giving me many strange probs, expecially when connecting and disconnecting ac-power before and after sleep. Where can i download and test it ?

I hope with your AppleACPIBattery it's better!

Thanks also for lapic fix for 10.6.5 kernel and other stuff you're going to release!

Fantastic work from "The X"

I hope to have time soon to try this myself. Of course, if others try this and helps them, even just a quick "It worked for me" is very helpful to everyone.

One question: If you removed RealtekR1000SL.kext, what did you replace it with? Have you proven for sure yet that it is causing the excessive fan operation? There is a new R1000 driver found on BlackOSX's thread (link provided earlier), but I have not had a chance to try it.

Nice work The X!

Thanks. : )

I would be nowhere without the great job guys like you, yehia Amer and Taptun and all the others have contributed with!

Anyhow, I doubt that RealtekR1000SL.kext has any effect on the fan, but I have had issues with it and the Realtek81xx.kext that's included on Amer's boot cd has been working very well for me. For example, I saw some error issues during boot when I had the RealtekR1000SL.kext, but I have not investigated it further. If it ain't broken...

I am now in the process of trying out different smbios.plist configurations, as well as different audio kexts to see what works best (for me at least). So far I have made a few observations:

  • A bad smbios.plist can definitely cause major issues! I just had one that locked up my computer after maybe 1 min or so. It was suggested by someone at the tonymacx86 forum to fix the speaker popping, but I'd rather have a few pop sounds coming from my speakers than a computer that locks up after a minute :)
  • The AppleHDA.kext included on mammoth's boot cd gives me an issue, which I have mentioned before, where the line-out goes quiet when the built-in speakers are no longer active. This may be due to my smbios.plist - if it is, I will report back.
  • Right now, I'm using AppleHDA.kext from Amer's boot cd in S/L/E together with IDT92HD7853_106.kext from the same boot cd in C/E/E. This switches between built-in speakers and line out when you plug your headphones in and it works -- no issues with headphones going quiet so far. I also feel that the built-in speakers don't pop as much in this configuration, but that may just be a fluke.

I appriciate all the time and effort everyone is putting into this, not only in this forum and/or thread, but across the Internets.

Okay, so I finally got my disc to boot, thank you doomer0 ;). When its done loading (After the gray screen with the Chameleon in the middle) it will ask me to choose a language. So it is already on English by default. But here is the problem. I can not move the mouse, my track pad will not work at all. How will I select certain things in order for this to work? Also, why would my track pad not be working? Is it because Snow Leopard doesn't support it? If so, is there anything else I can use for a mouse, like a USB wireless mouse or a wired USB mouse? Another thing is that I keep getting an error message. It keeps saying that it cannot read OS X off the DVD and to clean it and try reinstalling. SO I cleaned it and it keeps happening. Should I try reburning a new DVD in my VMware using SimplBurn? Or should I use the MAc at school to burn the ISO (That is if the kid will give me the login info...)?

-Thank You

an usb mouse, wired or not, should work just fine.

for the other error, i don't know, try burning another dvd, but remember, always at the slowest speed possible. I usually use UltraISO to burn cd/dvd in windows and i never had a problem.

I wonder if anyone is experiencing big problems with voodoobattery and how they solved it...

i am having huge issues with voodoobattery. Is there an alternative ?

In the newest Amer's bootcd i don't see any voodoobattery (or alternative) in extra folder ...

Is it possible to modify dsdt to let the system recognize natively DV8's battery and powermanagement like a real mac avoiding voodoobattery? How, if it is possible?

Thanks!

I'm using VoodooBattery.kext. I have not noticed any issues. What kind of problems are you having?

+1 for a more vanilla solution on the Battery issue.

Had problems with vodooBattery when booting into os x with power adapter inserted and the next boot up when running on battery.

Also when running the system and disconnecting the power supply the system would often KP.

I´d be happy to test.

Have a nice one.

Okay, I made my kernel to 10.6.5

Everything works, be sure to backup two kexts:

- CHUDKernLib.kext.back

- AppleProfileFamily.kext.back

Taptun :D

What do you mean backup? Backup before upgrading to 10.6.5, or backup the actual 10.6.5 files, or remove them from /S/L/E/ ?

He means rename them (so they are backed up) before applying the 10.6.5 Combo Update as the Update will add new ones.

OMG! Sweet! I hope someone has the time to test it and give us some easy update instructions, as I'm short on time myself this weekend. Will definitely test it early next week tho!

Thanks a lot Taptun!

Alright, so I finally got OS X installed! ;) . The current guide I am on is the Third guide, where you install chameleon and make it bootable on its own partition. When you say copy the Extra folder. Which one do you mean? There are two Extra folders in the Installer folder. What I did was copy the Extra1.15 folder to the Cham partition and I renamed it to Extra. I then did all of the Terminal commands and made it bootable. I then installed the Legacy Kernal and I copied the com.apple.Boot.plist from /Installation/Legacy_kernel/ and and copied it over to the /Cham/Extra/ folder and replaced the existing one. I then ejected the CD and rebooted. Now this is what happens. I get to a screen where I can choose two things. These are my choices: "hd (0,3) OSX" and "hd (0,4) Windows FAT32". I highlight the OSX one and press enter. Well it just scrolls through some white text on a black screen and reboots and shows the screen again. I have tried -v, cpus=1 busratio=12. The same thing happens, my laptop just keeps restarting. Is there something that I did wrong?

-Thank You

EDIT: I have just tried a Repair Disk Permissions and a Repair Disk. this did not help solve my issue.

i am having the exact same problems that dragonsoul81 described. A lot of crashes when ac power Connects and disconnects. I patched dsdt with the ac adapter mod in the way like dsdtse described .

Also a lot of probs/crashes when resuming from sleep and hibernate if i sleep with ac adapter connected and resume with battery only.

I ended to remove it completely (voodoobattery) until i find a better solution.

If anyone finds a solution for battery/ac plz let us know .

Thanks!!

So, in order to update, all we have to do is install the update, use your kernel and remove the two files you mention? That makes everything work?

Thanks!

My recommendation:

Make a .DMG backup of your Cham and OS X partitions/drives before you attempt updating to 10.6.5 or to the new kernel.

Also, look at the section of the v1.15 Post-installation Update Guide titled "[4] UPDATING TO A FULLY WORKING 64-BIT KERNEL".

I'm definitely trying this first thing Monday! I'll get back with my results.

I can vouch for it working. No problems yet. How dare you guys question Taptun you :) ! haha joking it does seem solid so far (a day running 64bit) :D

And just to clarify, my cautions weren't about Taptun's work; sometimes people make mistakes when trying to update things (like rebooting before they are supposed to), or noobs who may not quite understand and accidentally end up borking their system.

;)

Thanks again Taptun! Can't wait to update mine.

I know, I was just being facetious. I forget sarcasm isn't conveyed well in text. Always err on the cautious side. On a side note, I did the software update from well.. Software Update. Before doing this, I copied the kernel to the root / named "mobile_kernel" for lack of a better name. Upon rebooting, I gave Chameleon the "mobile_kernel -v" to avoid the conundrum of a non-working-10.6.5 kernel booting. Just a little tid-bit of info incase anyone needs it. Oddly enough, I didn't have to (re)/move those 2 kexts. Perplexing as to why as previously I've been burned by the AppleProfileFamily.kext causing hangs on booting. Do we know why this sometimes works and sometimes doesn't?
