iTunes updates never show up in Software Update

Hi!

 

I have a 10.6 vanilla installation running since it came out, currently at 10.6.4.

Whenever there is an iTunes update, it never shows up in Software Update.

I always have to download and update iTunes manually.

 

Does anyone know why this happens or how I can fix this?

My system runs perfectly otherwise.

I have the same issue, and a similar setup with my OS. I have tried deleting preferences and repairing permissions and nothing seems to work.

I have same problem. When I srart iTunes, it told me "New version of iTunes available", I click update button, software update utility starts and told "Software Update doesn’t have any new software for your computer at this time.".

wow this has happened to me aswell (thought i was the only one). seems like a tiny glitch. hate to point the obvious, just download the latest itunes off apple.

Same problem here, I just download off the website.

I solved it:

for some reason, there were some files missing in /Library/Receipts and /var/db/receipts/.

I copied the missing files from another system and ran Software Update, which then came up with the iTunes 10.0.1 update.

 

The list of files is supposed to look like this:

# ls /Library/Receipts/ | grep -i iTunes
iTunesAccess.pkg
iTunesX.pkg
# ls /var/db/receipts/ | grep -i iTunes
com.apple.pkg.iTunes.bom
com.apple.pkg.iTunes.plist
com.apple.pkg.iTunesAccess.bom
com.apple.pkg.iTunesAccess.plist
com.apple.pkg.iTunesX.bom
com.apple.pkg.iTunesX.plist

you have to go to Library/Receipts, if a folder called booms, look inside, and if within that folder is a file called com.apple.pkg.iTunes.bom, delete it, then try the software update and there will be the update of Itunes.

if you move iTunes out of your Applications folder, OS X won't check for iTunes updates... only thing I can think of.
