Just a heads up, Thanks to this hread, I nailed OSX 10.6.7 so easily, it was wonderful!.

I've not updated my BIOS to FF yet, so will have to do that (Notable change is support for 3TB HDDs).

Also, Just in case anyone knows, I've been working on getting 10.7 (dev preview 2) to work, and I'm successful upto the part where you pick the language, and click continue, it complains about it not being able to be installed :'(

Upon lots of reading, it's supposedly something about a PlatformSupport.plist (which amusingly I cannot find). I've asked about on the forum, and hope at some point to contribute to a thread on getting our board OSX10.7 successful <3

I haven't tried to get installation of Lion to work. However, I did get Lion to run starting from the image of a Lion disk copied from an iMac. I used Netkas's PCEFI boot at http://netkas.org/?p=712. Lion did work from time to time, but most of the time I got the double kernel panic. Just today I saw this post: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1674711 I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but that version of boot is supposed to solve the kernel panic problem, and I think it might also let you use Extensions.mkext.

Hi has anybody tried to patch dsdt for the new ga-x58a-ud3r rev 2.0 bios FG1??

Since 10.6.7 ive got problems with usb not booting correctly, so the keyboard is not recognized or something like that(only if i boot with -v -f)

Sometimes osx is loaded but i cannot do anything, i see the network monitor is working but the screen is kind of greyed out and i cannot interact with the ui :(

I think there might be some problems with the dsdt (im still on fe)

or with the usb3.0 driver?

greetings... maybe i will make a dsdt file but im currently running out of time...

so looking forward to someone spending time on the new bios and a new package of drivers

;)

Hi. FG1 is a beta BIOS, not a final release. Since it's beta, I wouldn't recommend using it unless the BIOS claims to fix a specific problem you're having. It takes some effort to update the DSDT for a new BIOS, so I don't want to do that for FG1, but I do plan on doing that when the FG final version is available. A while ago I posted a DSDT for BIOS FF, which seems best to me to use until FG is no longer beta.

10.6.8 Installed without incident, other than the AppleHDA.kext re-install that happens every single update. No problems at all.

I was using my files of course.

It was the same for me with my files.

10.6.8 Installed without incident

C-States does not work, why?

C-States is also not working for me. I have a Core i7-950. When I boot 10.6.7, the boot messages show turbo ratios 1112, but with 10.6.8 the ratios change to 0001. I did some searching, but didn't find a solution. Someone mentioned the 10.6.8 update may includes some changes from Lion.

Edit: This post suggests there may not be a problem after all: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1702722

Hi guys. This is my first time posting here. I have also having issues with my hackintosh. I have never gotten it to work. I am running the GA-X58A-UD3R rev 2.0 board and a core i7 950 3.06GHz processor. I have been trying the ##### + ##### route because it seems the easier of the two for me. I can get everything installed from the retail os x disk, but then when it comes to installing Kext files, i run into issues. I have a D-Link wireless dongle connected to the machine and I am able to install the driver for that so I don't need help with Ethernet. Here are my main questions, and I hope someone can help me out.

1) How do you determine what .aml file to put on the desktop after installing #####? I see there are about 6 different ones ending in FA, FC, FD. How do I know which one to use for my board?

2) Will I have to use a different Kext then the ones in ##### if I am using an HDMI cable?

3) Which combo update seems to be the most stable for this installation?

Just a quick answer to your questions.

1. the letters are a strange way to name the version of the bios. instead of 3.0 or whatever FA is used. Check the boot screen when you turn on the machine. You might have to turn off the full screen preview to see this.

2. I doubt you need special drivers for HDMI, if your cards works, but I'm not sure on this one.

3. Many people, including myself have successfully updated to 10.6.8 on this mobo.

Thanks for the reply. I still have had no luck getting this to install. I ran the 10.6.8 combo update, and even ran custom beast that was made for me from tonymac. After the reboot, I get the apple logo screen and then it just freezes. I can't get any farther then that. I don't even get the spinning circle signifying that it is loading. Just the apple. Any ideas? Im becoming really frustrated but not willing to give up yet.

I actually got it to work over the weekend. I used a hybrid version of ##### and the efi method. As it stands right now, my system is on 10.6.3. All 12GB of RAM are recognized as well. The only thing that doesn't work is the audio, but I am working on that.

Oh, I think I might have found the right place. Oh I hope so... Here's what I have / done so far:

System: Gigabyte X-58A-UD3R v.2

CPU: Intel Core i7 930 3.06Ghz

Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT 1Gb

Memory: 8Gb of Corsair

I did a number of installs but the one that at least gets me a mostly functional machine was:

Boot from #####

Clean install of SL retail DVD

Install of Combo 10.6.8

Reboot

Install of ##### using #####

I tried the UserDSDT method using the DSDT on the Tony forum but the I kept getting the [PCI] hang and replacing the two recommended kexts didn't fix the issue

Install of Tony's Nvidia drivers

Reboot

Install of NVExtend

Reboot

So if I try to boot directly from the hard drive, it hangs right after it gets past the firewire. Single user and Safe still will not boot. However, if I boot from the ##### cd, I get everything working except it only sees 4GB. I can change video modes, ethernet, sound, usb ports all work. Sleep does not, it will go into Sleep and the only way out is a hard reset.

So recommend path? Should I use the Post #33 DSDT and see what happens? What about the video? It seemed to only work correctly with the CD, when the machine would boot. Without the CD, I would only get 1024X768. I'd like to get these machines in a state where I can work on them and hopefully be ready for a Lion install in a couple of weeks.

Thanks!

Ross

OK so I tried the ##### using UserDSDT with the file in this thread, and it worked! Now have 8Gb of RAM, video works flawlessly, audio, gigabit Ethernet, and boots from the SSD now. Amazing got 8974 on Geekbench, not bad. Thanks for the DSDT work, now I wonder who will bite the bullet for Lion.

has anyone managed to have a working Lion installation? Waiting for a sign from you guys... I'm not able to figure it out alone :(

Cheers and happy installing!

DDi, Been up and running fine since day one... download from the market, and shoot me a PM I'll be happy to give you a run down. Please include specs

Would you be kind enough to share with the rest of the community?

Easy enough, I've been around for a while, however I'm not up on forum policies for external links and such...

1. download Lion from the market.

2. download chimera 1.4.1 (google) or whatever build of chameleon you prefer

3. download xmove 1.0 (google)

4. resize your leopard partition to leave 11.5gig of free space at the end

5. create a new partition in the empty space, name it install

6. Run xmove, and make sure you choose the partition 'install' as your destination!! (if you install it to your snow leopard partition you'll break your setup)

7. Once that is complete make sure you have either updated your chameleon, or you have run chimera.

8. reboot, at the boot screen select install as your boot device, and install!

9. once in lion copy any of the files you like from the attached archive (most of which are based from this thread, and some are not), to get sound working use the archive provided by the thread starter here. I think you'll need the network kext provided there as well, but I'm running on wireless so I never bothered.

10. Open terminal and paste:

sudo perl -pi -e 's|\x8b\x45\xc8\x39\x45\xcc\x74\x0b|\x8b\x45\xc8\x39\x45\xcc\xeb\x0b|; s|\x8b\x45\xb4\x39\x45\xb8\x74\x08|\x8b\x45\xb4\x39\x45\xb8\xeb\x08|' /System/Library/Extensions/AppleRTC.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleRTC

you may wish to backup /System/Library/Extensions/AppleRTC.kext first.

**Make sure you've updated your bios to FF

*** All you fermi users NO MORE FREEZING!!!!!!! I gave up on lion with my 5750, so I put my GTS450 back in just to test the waters, and no freezes!! (this isn't exactly news at this point).

Make sure you run kext utility before reboot.

JPA has a much prettier, and well thought out guide here

My geekbench under SL was 8950

My geekbech under lion is 10970!! (I think nullcpupowermanagement was slowing me down under SL)

I tried installing Lion, and found that the same kexts and DSDT I've posted for Snow Leopard work well. I needed to update to a current version of Chameleon, and I used r1324. I renamed com.apple.Boot.plist to org.chameleon.Boot.plist, as Chameleon requires now. Restart didn't work until I used Chameleon's restart fix. I added these lines to org.chameleon.Boot.plist

	<key>RestartFix</key>
<string>Yes</string>

Sleep due to inactivity works, but forced sleep (from the Finder menu or login window) doesn't. The computer seems to resume running normally, but the screen stays black. I hope there will be DSDT patches for restart and the sleep problem, but I haven't found any yet.

Although what I just described works, booting is slow because Chameleon doesn't use the kext cache in Lion by default. Instead it load all the kexts individually from the Extra folder and boot volume. I think that's because Chameleon doesn't know how to merge the Extra folder kexts with Lion's kext cache. You can speed up booting, but for now only by installing all the kexts from the Extra folder on the boot volume. Doing that (correctly) should update the kext cache (kernelcache) on the boot volume with the added kexts. After that, you can add these lines to org.chameleon.Boot.plist to have Chameleon ignore the Extra folder and load the kext cache:

	<key>UseKernelCache</key>
<string>Yes</string>

As far as the initial Lion Install, I created a USB stick for that. I don't have time to write a detailed tutorial, but here's an outline of what I did. The USB stick has Chameleon installed on it, with a boot partition that contains the "boot" file and the Extra folder. There is a separate partition for the Lion equivalent of the Snow Leopard install DVD. This setup is the same as you might do for Snow Leopard. The difference is in setting up the install partition. That partition uses about 4.5GB, so you need a USB stick larger than 4GB.

The Lion installer app (from the App store) contains a disk image, InstallESD.dmg in SharedSupport. After mounting that, if you look at the contents in Terminal, you'll see BaseSystem.dmg at the root. BaseSystem.dmg is invisible in the Finder, but in Terminal you can copy it somewhere else (because the image is read-only), then make the copy visible. Since I have Xcode installed, I did that using "SetFile -a v" on the copy. Then it's just a regular disk image, and Disk Utililty can be used to restore it to the install partition on the USB stick. After that, a couple changes are needed before the install partition can be used. In System/Installation there is an alias to Packages. The alias must be replaced by the actual Packages folder, which is found on the InstallESD image. Also, mach_kernel has to be copied from the root of InstallESD to the root of the install partition. Maybe all that is what Xmove does, but I like to understand how things works at a lower level.

I would like to point some important matter.

I installed Lion using chukles post method

but as soon as I added Ethernet .kext (realteckRTL81xx.kext)

next reboot failed and stays failing.

Thinking about it, I installed Littlesnitch 2.4

imported rules from SnowLeopard

added Ethernet .kext

and now boot is constantly OK

You can deduce what you want

but take care

I too am using littlesnitch, however I did a 'clean' install. I didn't save any programs or their settings. Never had any boot issues... Perhaps you forgot to run kext helper before rebooting?

What I mean to say is:

as soon as network is enabled,

if little snitch is not installed and properly configured,

your Hackintosh connects to Apple silently...

and next time you will not boot at all

Now if you install little snitch

without restoring rules, if you look at rules just after installation, you will see that a lot of connections are enabled with Apple.

So importing previous rules cancels those allowed connections with Apple.

And you can install then your Ethernet .kext

and enjoy safe surfing.

May be I am wrong ... but this is my experience

Leon
