QUOTE ( :) @ Jan 28 2011, 07:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Tried it,

Boot faster but still restart after shutdown.

What method did you use to install your osx?

What Bios are you currently using?

How many memory and HDrive do you have in your mobo at the moment?

Have you tried a different OS? That has happened to me on an ASUS P6T before and it turns out the motherboard was defective. It did it in Windows & OS X.

I am using FE with default settings in BIOS: changes to AHCI, 64-bit, overclocking to 3.83GHz, disabled turbo-boost. I have 12GBs (6x2GB) and 3 HDDs.

Does EvoReboot fix the problem for you? If not, then I really think you have a hardware problem, not a software problem. You could do a fresh install with my files though to really be sure.

Just tried it on Win7,

First it was ok, but when i restart a few time, the problem came.

Installed EvoReboot but no luck.

Contacted gigabyte support.

I may have a faulty Mobo? :(

I was going to ask this If or after I get the shutdown problem fixed but

looks like support may take a while.

I was having problem with checking bad block on a 1T Hard Drive on USB3.0 with TechTool pro 4.6.

It will automatically disconnect in the middle of the task.

Does it happen to you too?

Please let me know.

Thanks

Mac hardware verification and stress test programs are pretty much uniformly an embarrassment. I suggest doing all tests in windows.

Use Seatools, a free hard drive program, and test from windows. The short versions of the two tests+SMART is all that is necessary, unless you feel that the hard drive is actually bad and it pases the short versions.

I believe Seatools is also available as a .iso file for a bootable CD, so you don't need to have Windows. For SMART tests, the smartctl command used in linux also compiles and runs fine in OS X.

I'm not really sure what you are describing. However, using my files there are no issues with sleep, restart, shutdown, or the like.

I would say you have a hardware problem or BIOS settings problem. Try pulling out all of your add-on cards and seeing what happens then.

Try using my attached BIOS settings. They are for a 3.83GHz overclock on the i7-950 running FE. Don't use them with any other CPU unless you alter the frequency settings to something that actually makes sense with your processor.

Don't use them with a different BIOS version.

I should also add that I normally use a little bit less voltage for my CPU (1.30625), but it is possible that yours might require more, so this is a bit higher.

This is for DDR3-1333 @ 1.5v, so your RAM might require more or be faster.

Problem solve,

Looks like i have a half working? Faulty wifi card.

Change it to AR5BXB92 AR9280 ABGN and shutdown works again.

Thanks for the advice guys :)

I would like to thank you about this post

It save me time to get Hac Pro working.

I still have 2 questions:

a) does anyone find how to use SATA 3 in SL ? I guess this is too new yet, but may be some one did it ?

b ) I put cpus=4 in com.apple.Boot.plist, so about this mac Hardware says

Nom du modèle : Mac Pro

Model : MacPro3,1

Processor name : Intel Core i7

Processor speed : 2,94 GHz

Processor : 1

Core : 4

But activity monitor shows only one window ?

On my Inspiron 6400 intel dual core I have 2 windows... so

what is missing here ?

There are too many CPUs for Activity Monitor to show them in separate windows. In Activity Monitor, under the Window menu, select Floating CPU Window.

Hi Maleorderbride,

Are you saying that the dsdt has the voltage of the memory "hardcoded"? My memory uses 1.65v... and my system for some reason is not very stable. Sometimes I can run it for days without any problem, and sometimes it crashed every 30 minutes.

I know that my computer is not stable when the memory voltage is set to 1.5v. I've run memtest86+ with the memory at 1.5v and it reported some errors, but it didn't report any when the memory uses 1.64v.

I've been suspecting that the memory is the culprit of the KPs, but I haven't been able to prove it. But if that information is in the DSDT and set to 1.5v it would explain a lot :)

Cheers,

a.

I got Kernel panic in restart after updating to 10.6.6.

I originally installed SnowLeopard from authentic DVD using EFI empire. Now when updating the system (for the first time using "update combo" as recommended) I get kernel panic during the first second after selecting start up disk.

Has somebody updated successfully using "GA-X58A-UD3R **rev 2.0*" and intel i7 930 ?

What to beware?

regards

I'm using the files I posted previously in this thread, and had no problems updating to 10.6.6. As far as I know there are no special issues with the 10.6.6 update. As always, if you've replaced Apple kexts by others with the same name, you may have to reinstall them. I have a GA-X58A-UD3R rev 2.0 and Intel Core i7 950.

A new BIOS version, FF, is available for the GA-X58A-UD3R rev. 2.0. It's on the Gigabyte website at www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3449&dl=1#bios I hope to have time soon to update my motherboard, and post an updated DSDT (or determine no update is needed.)

Thanks for the answer.

It seems that it is related to sleep.enabler.kext. A lot of people have been experiencing the same thing.

I tried simply removing it from home/extra/extensions but without luck. Does the system need this kext to start up? Or can i somehow disable it, and if so, how?

Thanks in advance.

After you removed it, did you also make a new Extensions.mkext? You have to do that whenever you change the kexts in Extra/Extensions.

I don't have experience with sleep.enabler.kext. With my edited DSDT, the only kext I need that isn't for specific hardware is fakesmc.kext, and sleep does work.

By making "a new Extensions.mkext" do you mean by using kext utilty and reapair permissions?

I´m not sure how to make a new extension.mkext and kext utility only seem to work on boot disk.

I´m trying to fix a boot drive which I cant boot from. :thumbsup_anim:

Thanks for your help.

It's easiest to do if you can boot the machine into Snow Leopard from a CD, USB stick, or some other drive. After booting, run Terminal and do this:

cd "/Volumes/.../Extra"
sudo kextcache -m Extensions.mkext Extensions
sudo chown root:wheel Extensions.mkext
sudo chmod 644 Extensions.mkext

In the cd command, replace the 3 periods with whatever the rest of the path is to the Extra folder that needs to be fixed.

Here is my DSDT with all of d00d's patches, updated for BIOS FF. The DSDT for FF is only slightly different than the one for FE, and OS X under FF still works with the old DSDT. There appears to be a bug fix or change for a timer device in the FF DSDT, and to get that you need the new DSDT.

I updated my BIOS to FF without any problems. However, the update restored all the BIOS settings to the defaults, and deleted CMOS settings saved in the BIOS. So you'll probably want to make a note of all your BIOS settings before doing the update.

Has anyone gotten ##### or XPC to boot on the GA-X58A-UD3R? I'm trying to run Lion, but I haven't gotten anywhere because I can't get ##### or XPC to work. I set up a USB stick with each one and tested it on my older Q6600 machine. Both worked on that machine, so the USB stick was set up correctly. But on my GA-X58A-UD3R, something flashes briefly in red, then I get a completely blank screen. I don't get the initial cursor like with the Q6600. I tried waiting a long time, but it made no difference. Also, when I reboot afterwards, sometimes the BIOS complains about an overclocking failure, and loads safe settings. I wasn't doing overclocking.

I installed Chameleon and put together an Extra folder myself, closely following what maleorderbride did. I explained it back in post #471 at http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1619193 which has my files. For BIOS FF, use those files, but replace DSDT.aml in the Extra folder with the new one.
