Hi, first guide for GA-X58A-UD3R v2.0 FA

 

My PC

Components - Parts - Build

 

Videos

and

 

Snow leopard - in GA-X58A-UD3R rev 2.0

 

-Disconnect all disks except HD used for MAC

- 4GB RAM (2GB DIMMs in slots 1 and 3). remove the extra RAM

 

BIOS

boot Priority CD/DVD first

PCH SATA CONTROL - change to ACHI

ONBOARD SATA... all sata - change to ACHI

HPET change to 64-bit mode

ACPI SUSPEND - change to S3 STR

 

* If you have greater than 4gb of RAM, remove the extra RAM for a maximum of 4gb. You can put

back any extra RAM in after the installation process.

* Use only 1 graphics card in the 1st PCIe slot with 1 monitor plugged in.

* Remove any hard drives besides the blank drive being used for OS X.

* Remove any USB peripherals besides keyboard and mouse.

* Remove any PCI cards besides graphics- they may not be Mac compatible.

* If using a Gigabyte P55 board, use the blue Intel SATA ports- not the white Gigabyte SATA ports.

* It's best to use an empty hard drive- you will have to partition and format the drive.

* Always back up any of your important data.

 

Download Boot CD

or Empire EFI - Use this

 

Burn ISO Boot CD in Empire EFI with SetupImgBurn_2.5.1.0 in windows to 2x speed

 

Place Empire EFI in CD/DVD drive

- Restart computer

- At Chameleon prompt,

eject Empire EFI

- Insert your Mac OS X Snow Leopard Retail DVD and press F5

Got to Install

 

# When you get to the installation screen, open Utilities/Disk Utility

# NOTE: If you can't get to the installation screen, retry the

process, but type -x at the screen above. This will enter Mac OS X Safe Mode, which will allow you to proceed.

# Partition your hard drive to GUID Partition Table

# Format your hard drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

# For the purposes of this guide, name it Snow Leopard. You can rename it later.

# Close Disk Utility

 

Install Failed: Mac OS X Cannot Be Installed on this Volume, This is normal- and happens every time with the patched kernel that's loaded from Empire EFI.

 

Reboot

 

eject Mac OS X Snow Leopard Retail DVD and insert again the Empire EFI

- Start Mac OSX

- Video Welcome a Mac :)

- Complete all steps

 

Now you're on the desktop.

 

- Download Mac OS X 10.6.4 Update

 

Open [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] - leave it open, not moving

- Download [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] 2.1.4

- Install Mac OS X 10.6.4 Update - Not Reboot

 

Now [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] close automatically

 

- ReOpen [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url]

Download this

DSDT for i7-930 copy DSDT to Desktop ONLY i7-930

 

In [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] - Select

* UserDSDT - DSDT for i7-930 copy DSDT to Desktop (DSDT.aml)

* System Utilities (both items)

* Advanced Options: Kexts:

* NVEnabler_64 - For me 9800GTX+

* IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector

* JMicron36xATA

* JMicron36xeSATA (my Gigabyte SATA headers are connected to external ports)

* Mac Pro i7 smbios.plist

* OSX Software: Kext Utility

 

Install [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] and not reboot

 

Into in /S/L/E (/System/Library/Extensions/)

copy modified AppleHDA.kext and overwrite

 

- Download modified AppleHDA.kext

 

Copy the following items into /E/E (/Extra/Extensions) and overwrite

 

Downloads

- modified FakeSMC.kext in macpro4_1_fakesmc.kext

- legacy889HDA.kext

- modified IONetworkingFamily.kext (Realtec_8111d_3264.zip)

 

For i7-930

- Modify /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist

 

To make the CPU changes work correctly, add the following to com.apple.Boot.plist.

 

<key>DropSSDT</key>

<string>yes</string>

 

Identify your machine as MacPro4,1 in smbios.plist.

 

<key>SMproductname</key>

<string>MacPro4,1</string>

 

Run KextUtility in Apps (or repair permissions and rebuild kext cache).

 

Shut down the machine, reconnect extra hard disks, and reinstall RAM extra.

 

Full Snow Leopad - Enjoy

 

Problems?

- Nividia Problems, reinstall this NVEnabler_64.kext with Kext Helper 7 in Apps - reboot and Enjoy

Is sleep working correctly for you? I am thinking of doing a complete re-install. Everything is working great on my install except sleep. I used roughly the same method as you, but may re-install if your sleep is working.

ive got 5.1 sound, sleep working, internet, 14,300 geekbench and only the legacy 889hda, jmicron and fakesmc kexts being used. let me know if you guys would like my dsdt.

 

only problem i got is when i come back up from sleep it takes about 15-20 seconds for the internet to start working again. this wasnt a problem on my rev 1 board

Here is my DSDT, it's set up for a GTX 260, wont affect anything if you have a 9800gtx or so, just search for "gtx 260" on DSDTSE and rename it to your liking

 

the audio files im using are the ones posted on here, same with the network files

Now I am about to rush out and buy this mobo GA-X58A-UD3R rev 2 :)

Not yet decided about the CPU 930 or 960 and the GPU ati 5870 5770?

As far as the mobo I would like to know form you folks around here what is the current status of this vanilla install? (better safe than sorry) Is everything working? I tried to read trough all the posts but could not make much sense of it. ;)

I hope you're not neglecting too many other duties in your life to make this happen for all us rev 2.0'ers ;) Strangely enough, seeing the e-mail updates from insanelymac that this thread has been updated is the currently most exciting thing I'm expecting in my inbox.

 

Will try tonight, can't wait to see the better geekbench scores.

 

I have the 1.0 board, still trying to fix my sound. Will these files work because the audio ALC889 is the same?

Is it possible to get your DSDT with only 2 changes? For instance, set to a i7 920 and a 9800GT? :(

 

Or perhaps instructions to accomplish this? Been struggling with getting onboard audio on my Rev 2 X58A-UD3R myself. :P

Hi - tonymac86 has a good build with dsdt for this board. 32bit graphics works ok with the 5770 - 64bit still waiting..

920 930 940 950 960 965 all the same {censored}..

 

download DSDTSE, search "GTS 250" and replace that with whatever you want to name your card, hit compile, save then replace that with your current dsdt. be sure it's in all caps like this "DSDT.aml"

 

as far as audio, I believe page 2 has the files, put the applehda in s/l/e and the legacy889 kext in e/e

 

just drag and drop... and then run kext utility

 

if you have hdaenabler kext delete that, same with voodoo kext, delete that too

 

and if you have a legacyhda kext in your e/e folder already, delete that too, and just have the legacy889hda in there

 

 

it's easy, if you cant figure it out. re-read this. you'll get it

Any chance that there are i7-950 owners that have already modified nullspot's DSDT to work with this board and wouldn't mind sharing? Or just someone who wouldn't mind helping out? I feel horribly intimidated by editing it myself... :)

So I've got everything working 100%, Core -7-930 and X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0, except the following infuriating issue:

 

Most of the time, everything is perfect. However, RANDOMLY, sometimes I get a stutter in my audio and mouse. From searching I thought this was related to AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext, so I removed the file and dropped it in my backup directory. Everything worked and I thought I'd fixed it, but now the problem is back. That's been the challenge in figuring out what the culprit is, because things generally seem to work -- so I never know if I've fixed it until it shows up again.

Trying to update the BIOS, thanks for the suggestion!

 

However, I seem to have gotten myself in trouble. I downloaded the latest (BETA) BIOS and got an .exe file. I don't have a copy of Windows handy so I tried to open the .EXE with StuffIt Expander. However the resulting file apparently had some sort of error because when running the BIOS update I got a checksum error and now my machine says "Invalid Boot Partition" and won't start. I'm going to try to grab the correct BIOS file somehow and hope I haven't done irreparable harm, but in the meantime... how can I open an .exe without Windows? Thanks again.

Thanks treplau6 for the great info, my GA-X58A-UD7 Rev 2.0 has 2 LAN ports working perfectly.

 

I do have a question however. Do you have the ALC889 sound working yet? I've tried everything I can find with exception of MacMan's edits of the DSDT.aml file. Any chance you could give me an overview of what I need to do to get it going?

I am having issues when I shutdown my computer. It would Kernel Panic whenever it shut downs.

 

The following are my Specs:

i7-930

GA-X58A-UD3R

Gigabyte Radeon 5770

1TB Samsung F3 HDD

Sony DVD Burner

 

I've rebuilding the cache and repair my permissions through [url=&quot;http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/&quot;]#####[/url]'s System Utilities, Kext Utility, and [url=&quot;http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/&quot;]#####[/url]. However, none of them seem to work.
