I saw similar posts on official steam forums. Maybe upgrading to 10.6 is a good idea...

You have a q9300 so I definitely would.

It's only free for a few days.

Still, Steam is major news!

Portal is free till 24th but I own games like TF2 etc and they are coming to mac very shortly, It was in the Beta.

Oh I did try downloading the client for my hackintosh build which I think is pretty much capable.

However, Upon dropping the Steam Client to /Applications and running it,

It tries connecting to the Internet. I have an ADSL modem with a 1MBps capacity.

And, while it was running, uTorrent and other networking programs were "Quit".

Yet, this client for some reason popped up the message "Couldn't connect to the Internet".. .Blah! Blah! Blah!

Does it do that? What is the solution?

Why?

I dislike how on your account it shows games you "own" but can't play on Mac. When I loaded Steam first thing I did was look for CS:Source in my games. When it was there my heart fluttered ("Is today the day I finally get rid of Windows?").

Then I click it and it says "Not for my platform." Steam without HL2 and games based on it is not really the steam I know, more like a steaming pile of ****.

HL2 and CS:Source will be available eventually, Team Fortress 2 was playable in the beta.

My guess is that they want to field-test the Source engine first (allowing people to play Portal for free) and then after they fix whatever bugs that show up they'll make the rest of the Source-engine based games available. Portal had one or two updates already. It's only a matter of time.

Amazing! We've had Steam for Mac about 36 hours, with 61 games released on Wednesday and somehow 'it's a steaming pile of ****'!?!

You have 2 choices. 1) stick with Windows or 2) learn a little patience.

Let's make no mistake here, this is a major event for gaming on Mac OS X.

I just solved my Problem!

As silly as it may sound, But Little Snitch was blocking it.

Coz I had set a "default" rules to block all apps.

However, I wanted to know from fellows, whether Portal for Mac is actually 5.3 GB in Size?

That's what the Steam client is showing as available free download.

Awaiting anybody quick enough to reply.

There are a few things I dont like about Steam

(1) Steam wants to load up when OS X loads.

(2) Every Steam game seams to start by loading Steam.

(3) Offline play sometimes wont work, is tricky to get working,

or just pain dont work.

(4) Always seams to be downloading updates, gets in the way of playing games.

(5) If you are downloading, someone is watching Hulu, and so on, Steam may

not connect, and you cant play your game.

All that DRM seams like a pain in the butt to me, I think I will skip

putting up with it, and just buy the game on CD/DVD and do what

I need to :thumbsup_anim:

1) I know you can disable this via its Settings

2) Well for one that's their plan to monopolize the games so you won't play elsewhere :)

3) I haven't tried this one yet

4) You can disable this as well, but I'm quite sure some updates are necessary for games or else they won't load properly

5) Yep lag sucks

Yea today I had about 30 minutes to play, and wanted to play Portal,

and I was not able to, I started up Steam and went to Games, and

tried to start Portal, it said something about not being able to connect

to server, so I Google Offline mode, and switch to Offline mode, now

it tells me that Portal cant play in Off line mode, so I switch back to

Online mode and its still giving me the not being able to connect to server

thing, after about 10 minutes of that, something pops up, I was doing something

else at the time of the pop up, it was an Update so I waited for that to download

and the tried to start Portal again, it starts, but the keyboard no longer works

:D I end up smashing every key on the keyboard over and over again,

nothing happens, I dont power off because I would lose work, so I wait, in about 10

to 15 minutes the Steam online status menu or what ever that is, pops up,

so I exit the game, and delete every thing Steam related :) :censored2:

Good riddance

I am glad I did not buy but a few games
