Colonel
I just installed XGL on SLED 10 and when I enable Desktop effects, the minimize, close, and maximize buttons all disappear. Anyone know what the problem could be? Here's a screenshot of my desktop. Look right on top of the windows. The buttons are gone. alicheusz
You propably screwed installation look at this guide. http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/17174.html on middle at this page is part Configuring Gnome to Run Xgl check that you have this same settings. This problem occur when you don't add compiz --replace gconf to your gnome startup After properly setup I noticed this problem few times but I retrieve panels by just reseting X session Crtl+Alt+Blackspace and login again. XGL and compiz are not finish jet and they are very buggy. There is another way to retrieve panels by using tool called gset-compiz you can retrieve this by reseting only compiz (this don't touh your work). You can download it from http://www.compiz.net/viewtopic.php?id=119 add repo to SMART and install it from there. after that add compiz-start.py to your gnome startup, just like compiz --replace gconf You can play also with newer XGL and Compiz-Quinn compiz packages they are on this same repository and add few new effect like showing three desktop at once after pressing Crtl-Alt-PageDown Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21778-buttons-gone-with-xgl/#findComment-143947 Share on other sites
Colonel
add repo to SMART and install it from there. How do I do that? Sorry, I'm a Linux noobie EDIT: I keep getting errors. I'm just gonna forget the whole XGL thing and stick with the normal interface. domino
It appears that you have no decoration. I can't help with this yet since I haven't installed SLED due to quinnstorm's packages not being as stable as i want in SLED. Under Ubuntu, I prefer installing XGL/Compiz method where you can either login using XGL/Compiz or normal Gnome in GDM. That's always a failsafe in case Compiz starts getting screwy after updates. edit: Add compiz --replace gconf in your Gnome sessions. The sessions feature is under the Administration menu if I remember correctly. Quicker yet, open terminal and paste this: gnome-session-properties. It will open the sesions box then add compiz --replace gconf. Remove other compiz names if it appears in the session before adding the new one. Also add gnome-window-decorator to the sessions. Make it looks the the image below. alicheusz
How do I do that? Sorry on this page is everything you need to know how to add Compiz-Quinn packages to SMART http://wiki.compiz.net/index.php/SUSE just type in terminal smart channel --add http://software.opensuse.org/download/Compiz-Quinn/SUSE_Linux_10.1/Compiz-Quinn.repo but first install SMART, there is awesome johnniecarcinogen guide how to do it. This works on SLED also http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=17348 then try search on SMART for gset, XGL, compiz and install it. SMART should make all dirty work for you type in terminal compiz-start.py How did you install your graphics card driver. Did you have GMA 900?
