Oh, oh, oh. Pick me. I love beta software! :-D

I currently use pc_efi 10.6, I'll see how this compares. Do I need to change anything to install this, or just copy the files?

i know that i'm your best nightmare, but also this beta doesn't work. I've always black screen with original kernel, and all ok with legacy.

Go with a fresh install (from first post pick the 06/04), do a manual install of it (not only boot file replacing). Then u can test this beta1.

Greetz.

@DariosF,

I don't think so. u know I have no nightmares, only dreams not become true, for now -_-:)

valv, mine beta1 report:

CPU and RAM reported correctly.

The strange bug with alpha 4 appeared again with beta 1 --> when i open a new browser tab or refresh the current one, preview files on the desktop, open Illustrator or Photoshop, the sound form iTunes becomes noisy and hissing, stops for a two or more seconds.

Im wondering if this bug is somehow related to this key left in my apple.com.Boot.plist from Asere's bootloader:

	<key>system-type</key>
<string>3</string>

i'm using system type: Workstation, instead of Desktop.

Also my graphics and keyboard typing is ultra fast as XLR reported today with alpha7,8

Going to remediate to these issues in the next 2 or 3 betas.

btw, replace system-type with this SystemType

What's up with the system type, does it has anything to do with smbios.plist?

Because i'm not using smbios at the moment, it autodetects the mac model automatically.

you mean i should use now this?

	<key>System Type</key>
<string>3</string>

no space between System and Type ;)

hope this one fixes the black screen and the speed issues.

Hi, so something i am not 100% sure.

If my laptop has a GT230m Nvidia.

there are 2 devices ID.

1) should i assume that 1 is for the internal display and the other for the VGA?

2) if one of the device is 10de0a2a, it looks like Anval would work.

But what about the other device?

which is 10de0a28, is this something i can insert in the plist file?

do i have to patch a binary? or would it work fine on its own?

also with this release black screen. Besides with legacy_kernel' my cpu speed is 1 ghz (this problem there was also for alpha 7-8) instead 4.4 ghz...

I think I found where the typo was, corrected it, dropped some code portions to revert back nearing alpha5 (best results till now). Apologies again for all the hard time, but you know what? It is up to u to help testing, suggesting and thus making things grow on the right way. Again, thank u for the efforts u 've been offering.

Also, if u could add cpu and fsb freqs on your feedback, it'd help find where the typos are.

beta2b is here, testers needed beta2b.zip

Nah, it's still the same, even with SystemType 3.
can u post boot.plist & smbios.plist

@DariosF,

try adding this key to your boot.plist UpdateACPIVersion (with Yes value).

maybe you should do more edits on that file. we'll see.

yep, valv, u're right :) it's up to us to improve the bootloader via testing and reporting.

i'll report later on beta2 when i get back home.

keep up the marvelous work :(: ) greets

u could dump your entire acpi tables and get them loaded at boot time (especially for speed-step, not needing to inject SSDTs into DSDT). U could also add one custom SSDT for each new "DSDT" hack, and that way avoid enlarging the DSDT. As u may have noticed, u can get rid of restart-fix kexts. Other goodies are on the topic.

btw, thank u for using my boot-loader. hope it satisfies your needs. If u have any suggestions, I'd be glad to here from u.

I'm still using this bootloader. Works awesome. I'm not sure if it's because of your bootloader but I have perfect recovery from hibernate/deep-sleep mode. It looks actually very much like the actual apple laptops. The last time I was able to use this feature was back in 10.5 and it was flickry.

I have some silly questions if you or someone competent doesn't mind answering:

1) Restart works most of the time. There are times when reboot takes up to a minute and sometimes there's no boot... Is there something that I'm doing wrong?

2) I don't have c-states, will dumping the acpi tables allow me to have acpi tables?

3) How do I dump acpi tables? (I searched the thread but I must have missed it)

4) Would the use of acpi info address the HDMI freeze issue? (if the hdmi cable is plugged in with 10.6.4, the computer has to be hardbooted)

Regards,

-D

valv now i haven't black screen but my cpu is showed as 3.33 ghz (default cpu clock) instead 4.3 ghz...now i'll try without acpiupdateversion flag.

EDIT: same problem also without that flag.

Are u now using legacy kernel? what does sysctl -a | grep cpufreq & sysctl -a | grep busfreq show? what was the default cpu clock value on 04/06? from where did u get that value, ioregex? thanks

Oh, and what about dsdt, usb... issue you 've been having earlier?

no, i've used original kernel.

hw.cpufrequency = 15032704

hw.cpufrequency: 4310000000

hw.cpufrequency_min: 2586000000

hw.cpufrequency_max: 4310000000

hw.busfrequency = 1720000000

hw.busfrequency: 1720000000

hw.busfrequency_min: 1720000000

hw.busfrequency_max: 1722018400

With chamaleon rc5 pre8.

I haven't any issue and i've made my dsdt with dsdt patcher.
