Peter R.
The 'Unknown Chipset' issues like Whopper2005 is having seem to be related to the Chameleon bootloader. Patching to 619 solved it for me. However, tinkering with my sound has patxhed my Mac version from Pro 3.1 to a 4.1, GLbench scores dropped in the process form 3000 to 450, and editing the AppleGraphics etc. Has'nt helped. Now my sound is working but the graphics are shot. Nice ! Mine's fixed. My Mac Pro 4.1 had miraculously turned into a macbook pro 6.1, so one I set the device Id in the proper section of info.plist it was ok. Don't know how many cores I have though
trainee
If I understood it correctly the installation process is as follows: First you have to install Snow Leopard with another graphics card that is supported out of the box (GeForce 285 for instance). Then you have to update to 10.6.5 and install the new drivers. Afterwards you swap in the new GeForce 4xx. Is that correct? If yes my question is: What do you do, If you only have one of the new GeForce 4xx and no GeForce 285. Can you install and update to 10.6.5 in some sort of "basic video mode" with the 4xx before installing the drivers or is that impossible?
jijiji
@trainee I had no problem installing retail with 10.6.3 then updating whenever they were available. I think you should be ok starting out with 4xx series. Just to be complete, I did use files from first page before official nvidia drivers
georgegeorge
Installation guide. If you do not have another video card.1. Install 10.6.5 update http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324, do not reboot. 2. Install Chameleon 2 RC5 http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=231075 3. Download driver: http://www.mediafire.com/?5sq55pw31055ra1 4. Copy all kexts to /System/Library/Extensions (replace old ones) 5. Add this to your boot plist if you haven't done so already: <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>Yes</string> 6. Clear caches, repair permissions and reboot. No, but things could get messy if you install Chameleon to somewhere else than the same place as the older version.Make sure you know exactly where your present version of Chameleon is before running the installer. There'll be different options depending on whether you're using GUID or MBR partition style and whether you have Windows on the same drive as OS X or not. You need to be sure about these things before installing. That said I have never used the installer, maybe it has some sort of auto detection of these things. Fire it up and see. I followed Flyday's instructions but used the Chameleon RC5 automatic installer without doing any manual uninstall of the previous bootloader hoping the installer would do that automatically. The new bootloader screen does appear but when I boot up Snow I get a kernel panic and the dead-end Mac screen to press the shutdown button. Do you guys think the mobile Fermi chips don't work because they might be using a different architecture than the desktops? I added the kexts using the Kext Utility. On MacDrive I am noticing that of the 9 kext files copied from Driver.zip, all but NVDAGF100Hal.kext also have versions with extension ".bak" in S/L/E. Is this causing the kernel panics? Zeman4323
I tried the new driver with a GTS 450 No luck. I added 0x0DC410de to my info.plist. I believe this is a gf106 card, any one have any luck with this or similar cards? Thanks, and congrats to everyone else who has got their card up and running recently! shijan
seems its something wrong with cinebench or with drivers my old 8800GT 512mb score in cinebench - 29 (i7-870 processor). so it is much more than tests with new fermi cards. any ideas why? Jakes77564
I can confirm that the new drivers with 10.6.5 work with a GTX460M quite nicely. This has the GF106 chip. I have full 1920x1080. I am running an ASUS G73JW with i7-940XM. In some of my testing it seems like these drivers are only using 112 cores and no more. Welcome to Flam4 - Mac Edition! 1 CUDA Device on your Mac: CUDA Device: GeForce GTX 460 with 1023MB 112 CUDA Cores With the GTS 250 (Correct amount of Cuda Cores) 1 CUDA Device on your Mac: CUDA Device: GeForce GTS 250 with 1023MB 128 CUDA Cores Download http://sourceforge.net/projects/flam4/file...DA.pkg/download and see how many cores is usable Well, hmmm... when I run this on my GTX460M (GF106 chip) it says No CUDA capable GPU detected... NWang
With Gigabyte GTX 460 1G, I booted to USB key and did a fresh installation of 10.6.3. Then install Chameleon 2.0 RC5 b629. Then upgrade to 10.6.5 with combo update. After reboot, install the new Nvidia driver. GraphicsEnabler=Yes. Reboot. Still goes into low resolution. GTX 460 is never recognized. Edit Info.plist in NVDAGF100.kext to put in the Device ID string. Run Kext Utility. Reboot. Still no luck... Any helps how can I get it work? Sasan
At Last could make GT 430 works using Dreamwatcher Bios method with GraphicsEnabler. But there is an issue with graphics.... The problem sometimes graphics are not smooth for example when i click "Application" in dock to see my application list, the list appear with lags and not smoothly. or as an other example when i have multiple Firefox window open and i hold mouse on firefox icon in dock to show all FF windows... the effect is not smooth... Any one has same kind of issue? (I have overclocked my CPU)
maconbrody
Hey all, Thanks for all the info. I have been able to get my MSI gtx465 up and running smoothly on my 10.6.5 system by installing fermi package and new nvidia drivers, but I have one problem I'm wondering if anyone knows how to correct. When I enter an app that is resolution dependent like SC2, my screen goes black and the game continues audio fine. In other words, whenever an app calls for a resolution to change, it screws up. Let me know if I'm missing something here. Thanks!

I have the same problem. With the fermi package the graphics were smooth, except for the vsync. The same problem happen to me with the gts 250. Zaphod Beeblebrox
I have an ep45 ud3p rev 1.6 that i've been using with a gtx 275 without issue for sometime. This installation was done using the stella v3 ep45ud3p pkg. I've been monitoring this thread for sometime, once i saw the official driver release I decided to pop one of my gtx 470's in after installing the nvidia driver. Seems to work ok until I try to play WoW. Screen and computer in general locks up completely but audio continues, requires a hard reset to reboot. System profiler does not identify card or amount of ram.

IMHO it's not a good thing to use threesold value from another card for your card, it's better to stay in MacPro3,1 and dont have AGPM value (GPU Throttling still work whithout AGPM). I did end up getting CUDA to work. When I opened system preferences>cuda it prompted me to update. HOWEVER- I am only getting 64 CUDA cores out of 192 to work. The other problem is chipset model unknown in the system profiler. Is there any documentation for how to apply the Chameleon 2.0 RC5 R635 patch? I think this fixes my second problem but I don't know how to do it.
Sasan
Ok I did a few test to know the reason of graphics lag with GT 430 : As I understand from reading some materials it is related to GPU Throttling which cannot be properly done in my case. I verified this, by start watching a HD movie in OS X and lags were gone in UI and everywhere during movie watching. so this means Os X cannot throttle the GPU in standby time. I also tried dreamwatcher methods which were LagacyAGPM.kext or editing Info.plist of AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext. I tried them both with no success. I added MacPro3,1 with my related GPU info into AppleGraphicsPowerManagement plist.info but nothing happened. It was another method which was stated to remove AppleGraphicsPowerManagent, this method was also has no result. What can i try next? Thanks...
