Mate how can you play wow without the overheating of the gpu? i've 5 fans in the case, my gpu is an asus gtx 465 but when i play games like wow in osx the gpu fan still run normally without increase the speed and it become hot, how did you solved this problem? i was thinking also to flash the gpu bios in order to increase the fan speed but i hope there is another way with kext and so on,please help, thx

Me? I haven't had any overheating issues to solve, but it's probably due to the way my case is set up more than anything else. I get pretty much what I would expect from cinebench/etc from what other people are posting. I am running it as a MacPro3,1 (no graphics power management). It does throw out a bunch of really hot air when under load though.

I have two fans pulling air out of the case that are situated right over where the gtx470 sits.

I have another computer that is virtually identical that had minor and random overheating until I opened the case (which fixed everything but I just don't like it being open), when I get some time I'm going to cut holes in the door to mount fans in a similar way in that case.

In my case airflow seemed to be the solution to a heat problem that didn't really even happen that often, YMMV.

Hey guys! I have installed Snow Leopard with my Palit GTX460 with the newest drivers from Nvidia.

But I think that the scores looks a little weird.

Speccs:

CPU: core i5 750

GPU: Palit GTX 460

Board: GA-H57M-USB3

RAM: 6GB DDR3 1333mhz

HDD: PS3 2.5 SATA

Xbench:

End result: 139.32

CPU Test: 190.99

Memory: 299

System: 348.98

Quartz Graphics test: 270,77

OpenGL: 101.54 128.81 FPS

User Interface: 406.3

disc: 41.46 (LOL!)

And I sometimes get random freezes.

Today I got a freeze and I rebooted my computer and after the apple logo there was just this aqua blue screen (Without a mouse cursor) but the sound worked. I tried booting with "arch=i386 -v busrate=22" and even with -x.

that did work so I tried repair disk permissions and clean the start apps. and I rebooted.. Aqua blue screen without cursor again!! So I went onto my windows to find answers. Nothing. But after that I tried once again to boot into OSX and it worked!! What the heck was that all about. You stupid "pretend to be a MAC son of a stone!!" Dont scare me like that!

Do you guys have any answers to this? Im pretty noobish on this

I'm getting the same issue. mine when I load Starcraft II, it crashes the OS so I was wondering why this game does that

by the way starcraft II is the original one no cracks added.

Mine is an original SC2 retail disc too (bought from Amazon). Installed and the program auto patched with all the necessary updates.

Same problem when I connected it to my monitor via DVI (instead of DisplayPort).

It freezes within seconds and I can't even key in my Blizzard user ID. Music continues to play in the background. There's no way back to the OS except for a hard reset.

Tested with CounterStrike Source and it works very well so must be some incompatibility between this driver and SC2.

*** UPDATE : Just installed Civilization V (available on Steam Mac wef today) and it works great too. Performance isn't close to that on the PC though (yup my rig has dual boot).

I can confirm that the drivers break audio, at least in my case.

I'm on an Intel D975XBX2 (Bad Axe 2) and 8800GTS 640MB. My audio was working with 10.6.5 and the latest VoodooHDA.kext. My audio no longer works after installing the drivers and replacing my 8800GTS with my 460 GTX.

Prior to installing the driver my outputs looked like this: http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/9097/sc...101124at115.png

Then I grabbed the driver from http://www.mediafire.com/?5sq55pw31055ra1, installed with Kext Helper b7, shut down completely, removed my 8800, added my 460, booted up. Now my outputs are: http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/3772/sc...101124at120.png

When I reverse this process by uninstalling the driver and 460 my audio works again. I've tested this a couple times.

I have also tried the 10.6.2 AppleHDA.kext to no avail.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Does anyone have any advice as to what I should try next? Audio is working great in Windows 7 (I dual boot).

EDIT: I should note that my graphics are working well. No crashes and good performance, though not much better than my 8800 GTS. Everything else seems to be working perfectly sans audio.

I'm having the exact same problem with the new video drivers breaking my audio (I'm using a different motherboard, and a 470, but the same video drivers and VoodooHDA). I've tried everything you tried, plus a few other combinations of audio drivers to no avail. I'm wondering if the new video drivers can somehow be modified to not detect the HDMI audio.

Does anyone know if/how that can be done? Is it as simple as modifying some plists in the drivers?

I have a GTX 470 from GALAXY. Gigabyte X58-UDR3

I installed it using the following method:

1) Installed 10.6.5 combo update

2) Installed the newest fermi drivers by grabbing the files using Pacifist

3) The sound will be come broken. I just run ##### from tonymacs forum to roll back to 10.6.2 applehda

Almost everything works and V-sync issue is gone(It was a problem in the older fermi drivers). The only problem is the some what slow performance for 3d acceleration. I dont plan to play any games or do any graphics intensive works it's not a problem for me. Also there's no option for rotate the screens.

Hey guys... Has anyone a solution or an answer why my computer crash, freezes randomly and scores low with Xbench? I did install OSX fresh with a ##### disc and a retail Leopard disc. and then I intalled ##### with some kext's and the new official drivers. I can play WOW and Half Life 2. But I have to Take down the GFX settings a bit.

And I randomly get freezes.

My specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5 750

GPU: Palit Geforce GTX460

Mainboard: Gigabyte Ga-H57m-USB3

RAM: 2xGB + 2x2GB ( Total of 6GB) DDR3 1333mhz

thanks in advance

Hi Guys,

i installed the Nvidia Driver (Quadro Mac OS X Driver Release 256) and it works but i dont know

if Open CL does and my System Profiler shows this.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/580385/GTX460.png

Try OpenCL Galaxies http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/32266/opencl-benchmark .

So fermi does 100% work under hackintosh with full performance? Is it worth for maya and other CUDA application like octane render and Pr cs5?

I have same card as you and i get xbench 240 with palit 460 1GB, but get xbench 271 with mt 9800 gtx+ 512 mb.

Is this because there is no open CL. i don't know?

I still get the odd KP but only seems to be when online..what about you with your freeze's?

How about some Cinebench testing?

GTS 450

OSX: 22.23 fps

WXP: 43.60 fps

Can someone compare performance under OSX and Windows?

My Cinebench score for GTX 460 1GB is a tad lower than yours :

http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?p=52620#p52620

It's running at stock speed (Gfx and CPU).

Civilization V : performance on OSX is a lot poorer compared to Win 7 (same rig dual boot so h'ware is identical)

How do you get that good performance? I get only 5.62fps at openGL test with the same card and nvidia's new drivers.

I got some help to figure it out. My PC was registered as MacPro4.1 in the smbios.plist.

But after a quick edit to MacPro3.1 it gets the same scores as you have!

Thats good, but are you still getting KP's or did editing your smbios.plist back to MacPro3.1 sort them out aswell?

Yeah sometimes.. And the system profiler doesn't recognize my card and the card memory. Im planing on trying again with a new "fresh install"

I dont think that a full re-install is the problem with the odd kp as i have tried all sorts. But if you want to see your info in system profile, do this as it worked for me.

Use pacifist to extract the boot loader from chameleon 2 RC, Once you get this you need to put it in your EFI partition.
