cmf
Read Jocelyn84's post (#994) on page 50 - you need to edit AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext I just did it and saw huge improvement on opengl performance Now I wonder if my gpu will stay cool enough... Does anyone know how to monitor gtx470 temperatures? hm, i didn't mess with AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext and still get high fps. i'm still using macpro3,1 smbios though. shouldn't the fakesmc nvidia plugin be capable of monitoring the gpu temp and fan speed? It was determined awhile ago that using MacPro3,1 allows no power management, so your GPU is running at 100% the entire time, which if you're using a GTX 470 is a pretty big deal. Using MacPro4,1 in smbios and editing device id allows for native power management, cooler temps and slower fan speeds.

The edit I mentioned before is only needed for Mac Pro 4,1. No need to edit AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext with Mac Pro 3,1.
Nemes
So someone mentioned that the GTX 580 (GF110) is in the KEXT device IDs. What's the trick to getting it working? Everything is hunky dory with the GTX 480, but if I put my new GTX 580 in, I get a hardlock at boot.

Has anyone tried GTX 580 yet? I saw some good review for this new Nvidia gfx card, slightly trailing behind HD 5970 and has only single GPU. Also has the same price with GTX 480. Please post if you have success with this card. Thanks.
Autero
With the new nVidia driver I can confirm that the GTX 465 now fully works. And I now get more options than just 1080i TV, now I have PAL options as well.

Someone will have to add it to the chameleon graphics enabler. Until then you may be able to get it working by making custom device-property injection. g\

Gringo Vermelho
Mine with the 10.6.5 nvidia drivers on a 9800GTX+, C2D E8500, P45/ICH10R, MacPro3,1 model identifier, Chameleon GraphicsEnabler, 1280x1024x32: So far confirmed working with the latest drivers are GTX 460, 465 (w/HDMI), 470, 480 (w/HDMI sound even). That accounts for all GF100 and GF104 chip cards. No one has confirmed the GTX 580 as working, but its device ID is present in NVDAGF100Hal.kext. the clash
EVGA GTX460 1GB on Gigabyte X38-DQ6: I had to clean install 10.6.0, chameleon rc5 r629, then 10.6.5 combo update. Afterwards, nvidia retail 256.01.00f03, and reboot with GraphicsEnabler=Yes. Only using fakesmc, AHCIPortInjector and ATAPortInjector, with custom DSDT. All is well. If it is a Chameleon matter, it's not going to be as simple as adding the device ID to Chameleon - I just tried that with no luck.
ivan300
Here is what I did to get my 460 working Installed 10.6.3 using nawcoms modcd Updated to 10.6.5 (i had to use vnc to update the usb kext as im on the legacy kernel) With GraphicsEnabler=Yes The Nvidia Driver said my system is unsupported. So i right clicked on the driver and selected show package contents. Inside there will be three installers. I ran all three one at the time and rebooted
tuff bob
Another happy working GTX460 user here! I can hardly believe its working, with over 3700+ FPS at 1920x1080x32 according to OpenGL Extensions Viewer
Peter R.
Guys, is there any boocd which supports fermi so i can do a fresh install? Diwad, See if you can find tonymac's old fermi test bootloaders, or send him a mail and ask. I still use it and it works for me. If he can't help you I can make you an iso, but I'll have to ask Tony if he's ok with it.
Diwad
Did you modify the iso somehow? Because it ignores the dsdt in my case.

Gidi
SLI rigs may work too, 2x480 here without issues, injected via DSDT.
Peter R.
Did you modify the iso somehow? Because it ignores the dsdt in my case. IIRC, there were two versions : 001 and 002 (duh !) 001 did not work for me. 002 did. So this is (in short) what I did : Boot with 002 after boot : take out bootcd, insert 10.6.3, wait a bit, press F5 : OSX DVD shows up. Select and install. After install (installation FAIL message), reboot, insert tony's bootcd, when the bootloader icons show up, select your osx partition and boot. Here I install my D-Link USB wifi stick, and reboot as above. I now have network. Now I open ##### and leave it there. Now I patch to 10.6.4. I don't go straight to 10.6.5, because as I found out yeaterday, that breaks it : nothing that's connected to a usb (keyboard, mouse, etc.) works after patch to 10.6.4, i don't reboot as asked, but i do de ##### thing, and do a user dsdt (which I downloaded from Tony and placed on my desktop as an aml file). I don't select any funky bootloaders, because none of them work for me, nor any of the 889 audio thingies, because they don't work eather. No nv inject, no nothing. Only the extra OSX utils you can install from #####, among which is kexthelper. After this, i run kexthelper an fix up stuff. I then again reboot with Tony's old bootloader (up to here I have used noting else), and i get a kernel panic. I press the reset button, and after I select my OSX partition from the bootloader, it now boots into 1024 x 768. Now I install chameleon 2 RC build 619. After this, I switch off the pc, and restart, without a dvd in the drive, and it comes up in 1024*768 I check for updates. If the 'graphics update' is still there, i deselect it, because it breaks the box. Now I patch to 10.6.5. Use kexthelper again and reboot. Now try installing the fermi drivers and cuda ( haven't gotten this far, because yesterday evening I broke the box again trying to install the nVidia stuff straight on top of aquamacs stuff i'd been using upto now). Note I still don't have sound, because I haven't figured out how to make it work. Rollback to 10.6.2 with HDA doesn't work, and voodoohda finds 4 HDMI audio thingies I don't have. I know this doesn't actually belong here, but if you must, please move it somewhere else, but don't delete it !
kerunt
Having problems here. EVGA GTX 460. I had 10.6.4 running fine with an XFX 7600GTS. I installed the latest OS updates, upgraded to 10.6.5, tried to install the latest nvidia drivers - the installer said that my computer wasn't supported or something like that. I rebooted, and the OS crashed during the Apple loading screen with a "You need to restart the computer..." message. I tried swapping in the GTX460, same thing. I tried both cards with GraphicsEnabler=No, and with Yes, no luck, same thing. I can get into the OS with -v -x (verbose safemode), but am stuck at 1024x768. From safemode I tried to install the Nvidia drivers again, got the same error. I opened up the package, and ran the three installers inside manually - all good. I can see the NVDAGF100Hal.kext file in /System/Extensions. I've tried manually adding my device id to it - no luck. I also had NVEnabler.kext with my previous setup, which I removed. Again, no change. Like an idiot, I didn't make a full drive clone before beginning this process. I desperately need to get my system back up (either graphics card at this point) - any help would be appreciated!

Nemes
Just to follow up on my earlier GTX 580 post, what's the significance of the GTX 580 working in Safe Mode? My limited understanding is that NVGF100HAL still has to load even in safe mode, which means there's at least some acceleration going on?
