mmesh,

Cards with 2 x DVI + 1 x HDMI still only show up 2 ports in system profiler as even though they have 3 physical connectors, they will only support 2 outputs at any one time AFAIK. The same goes for your DVI/VGA/HDMI. If I have misunderstood you please let me know.

Blindwarrior,

You will need dual GFX strings to get 2 x 470's going. What motherboard do you have?

Hi, thanks for replying to me. I have the EVGA x58 SLI. So can I just follow the directions and make 2 strings then?

aqua-mac, thanks for your post. I am extremely honored. Although I am not far enough to implement this change yet, in fact I am having trouble with post 1.

Regarding installing /bootloader, I could use some advice. I used tonymacx86's OS X install guide with the newest release of ##### so I assume I have Chameleon installed already. I'm not sure how to verify this. Is this step needed if I have Chameleon installed already and if so, how could I verify whether it's installed or not?

I looked through the first few pages of this thread but it seems like at that point no progress had been made yet!

No, You understood me quite right. I didn't know about only 2 ports active at one particular moment - but thtat is not the problem. The problem is that LCD TV connected to 9500GT through AV DENON receiver doesn't get detected att all. :)

I wanted this combination because of the "feature" of GTX 470 which spinns up the fan almost to the max if You have dual output. It has something to do with the vsync problems and GDDR5 memory - that's what I've read about it.

----------------------------- FISHINROCKS95 metod ---------------------------

1. install SL and update to 10.6.4 but dont reboot to install the update.

2. Download the fermi package posted by CMF on page one.

3. install the kexts in the package with KextHelper B7(I use kext Utility) and then copy the frameworks provided to System/library/frameworks

4. Install the Myhack 1.1.4 bootloader and before starting the install, hit customize and under extra, check the graphics enabler box.

5. reboot ignoring caches

In Terminal = "sudo rm -Rf /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches"

Myhack installer -- http://www.mediafire.com/?gk941po72op3ex9

Here is my attempt, thanks to fishinrocks95

I want to confirm that this one worked for me.

Specs:

Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9550

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD...

2 x 2GB RAM 1066

Old Card: GTx9800

New Card: GTX 470 1280MB

Now, I installed the Snow Leopard Disk via partition, when i tried to do it with the 470 card plugged in the installation didn't start (Black Screen), so i plugged the Old Card, installed and followed the procedure above, then shutdown the computer, switched cards 9800 -> gtx 470, as the box started up, during the Chameleon prompt i pressed down and picked the "Ignore Caches" option and crossed my fingers, i can confirm everything went smothly

I hope anyone else find this info useful

in my case, i did not use an old card. just a GTX470, installed OSX Leo (Hazard build), selected Chameleon RC3, SMbiosresolver, nothing on graphics, X11, rosetta and itunes.

the above selected patches booted fine, i then updated to 10.6.4, installed the fermi package and Viola!

Hi, I tried the same thing, this is not working for me. I have been sifting through the forums for days and it seems like I get almost nowhere. If anyone has a similar setup and would be so kind to give me a step by step of what worked for them?

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R 2.0 Firmware FB

Core i7 950 Stock Clock, Stock Cooler

Zotac nVidia GTX 470 1280MB (in PCI-E 1)

12GB G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR3-1333 1.5v (F3-10666CL9T12GBRL) (only 4GB/1 module installed in slot 1)

Things I've Tried:

Instructions in post #1

Almost everything on Tonymacx86

GA-X58A-UD3R 2.0 Specific DSDT

Chameleon RC4, Chameleon RC5

Kakewalk 2.2, ##### 2.3.0 (multiple options)

NVEnabler, NVEnabler_64

nVidia Drivers 19.5.8f03, 256.00.05a23

NVFERMI.Fix.kext

Modified nVidia individual kexts

Device Injection (a few different ways)

Writing a custom DSDT (several different ways)

Attempt #1: Booting from CD

Booting from ##### nVidia CD using -x safe mode option originally worked reliably, OS installed fine, updated to 10.6.4, still fine. Never got it to boot from HD, but it was progress. Turned the system off for 24hrs, came back, same configuration now kernel panics on Apple screen:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0x55aa33): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI"\.\n~@Extr/builds/xnu/xnu-1456.1.26/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1393

backtrace etc...
BSD Process name corresponding to current thread: Unknown
Kernel version:
Darwin Kernel Version 10.0.0: Mon Oct 12 04:0605 AST 2009; anappirtrvh: etc...

Attempt #2 Booting from CD

Booting from experimental nVidia GTX 470 specific ##### CD #1 to SL 10.6.4 on HD using following options

http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3853

-f -v GraphicsEnabler=Yes

White screen (first frame of welcome video, frozen, mouse moves), forgets resolution, changes to 832x648

-f -v GraphicsEnabler=No

Black screen, no signal, does not automatically restart

-f -x -v

Boots OK, System Profiler shows graphics card as GTX 470 1280MB, Vsync disabled, OpenGL Extensions Viewer states Apple Software Renderer (because of safe mode I assume)

-f -v

White screen, first frame of video, remembers resolution 1024x768

-f -x

Apple screen, progress bar, indeterminate progress spinner

Boots OK, Vsync active (no tearing, still shows Apple Software Rendered in OpenGL Extensions Viewer)

no options (from CD)

Blue screen, black screen, cursor moves, stays black indefinitely, Apple-Tab changes cursor to hand momentarily, Apple-Q and clicking around gets rainbow beachball of doom

Tried to change a few things in Chameleon prefpane:

Unchecked GraphicsEnabler

EFI Inject: Checked Device Properties, Pasted from custom GTX470.plist

Checked DSDT file: /Extra/DSDT.aml (customized prebuilt for GA-X58A-UD3R 2.0, other say it works for them)

Attempt #3: Booting from Hard Drive

-f

New Apple screen flashes (chrome, not gray), immediately self-restarts

Attempt #4: Booting from CD hot software restart

-f

Kernel panic, complains about unknown hardware, ethernet, audio

Problem extensions: VooDooHDA (dependencies IOPCIFamily, IOAudioFamily), IOAudioFamily (dependencies OSvKernDSPLib)

Attempt #5: Booting from CD warm hardware restart button

-f -x

Progress bar, Boots OK, forgot resolution again, GTX 470 shows in system profiles, still stuck in safe mode with software rendered graphics

Kakewalk 2.2 from Jpa

Lnx2Mac Optimal BIOS Configuration for GA-X58A-UD3R 7/7/2010

Additional hacks I've tried:

FakeSMC

Disable SATA3 and USB3, not using those ports

All SATA set to AHCI

HPET on 64 bit

ACPI Suspend S3(STR)

DropSSDT

SMproductname: MacPro4,1

Geniuses of the forums, help?

TL;DR Core i7 950 on Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R 2.0 FB, 12GB RAM (4GB Installed), Zotac nVidia GeForce GTX 470 1280MB

Hello. I have a GTX 465 on a EVGA x58 SLI LE mobo. I know for sure that the 465 is the GF100 so it's compatible with the kexts on the original post. When booting with Chameleon RC5 I can see that the gtx 465 is recognized and as I boot with [ -v -f], it spits out "GF100HAL recognized and loaded". Then comes the blank screen. My monitor reads "no signal". Similar to the posts on this topic for people with a 460 which is the GF104. Strange right?

I have tried the original post, efi string in com.apple.boot thing, 480 10.6.4 patch, nvdaresman edit, and that myhack thing. So the strange thing is when I copy over the nvidia kexts to S/L/E and repair permissions kext utility or disk utility, that's when the blank screen happens. If I copy them over and don't repair, then I can get into the desktop with low res settings. I confirmed it by going to the dashboard and watching for the ripple.

Please help? Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks.

yah there is, theres nothing in the string in the Graphics Enabler line

I was told by AquaMac:

You should use either "GraphicsEnabler" OR "device-properties" and following GFX string but not both together.

If I understood him correctly, that is why I left out Graphics Enabler string.

Let me be specific as to what my problem is. I am the only person on this thread with the MOBILE version of GTX 480 and am worried that the procedure might be different for this card.

As you can see, the drivers released by nVidia for GTX 480 and GTX 480M are different, so there's a good chance that the driver files by CMF and AquaMac are specific to the GTX 480 and incompatible with GTX 480M, which is why I'm having problems.

GTX 480: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista...hql-driver.html

GTX 480M: http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7...hql-driver.html

Could someone who knows what they're doing suggest a solution or modify these files somehow so they work for the mobile version, and create a proper com.apple.Boot.plist for me?

The Device Path is PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x7,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)

Blue screen, black screen, cursor moves, stays black indefinitely, Apple-Tab changes cursor to hand momentarily, Apple-Q and clicking around gets rainbow beachball of doom

Tried to change a few things in Chameleon prefpane:

Unchecked GraphicsEnabler

EFI Inject: Checked Device Properties, Pasted from custom GTX470.plist

Checked DSDT file: /Extra/DSDT.aml (customized prebuilt for GA-X58A-UD3R 2.0, other say it works for them)

Attempt #3: Booting from Hard Drive

-f

New Apple screen flashes (chrome, not gray), immediately self-restarts

Attempt #4: Booting from CD hot software restart

-f

Kernel panic, complains about unknown hardware, ethernet, audio

Problem extensions: VooDooHDA (dependencies IOPCIFamily, IOAudioFamily), IOAudioFamily (dependencies OSvKernDSPLib)

Attempt #5: Booting from CD warm hardware restart button

-f -x

Progress bar, Boots OK, forgot resolution again, GTX 470 shows in system profiles, still stuck in safe mode with software rendered graphics

Geniuses of the forums, help?

TL;DR Core i7 950 on Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R 2.0 FB, 12GB RAM (4GB Installed), Zotac nVidia GeForce GTX 470 1280MB

Boots to apple screen and immediately reboots infinite loop

my motherboard ends with -UD3L

just to let you know, i tried everything to have the instalation partition (or DVD/USB if u will) starting up with the 470 card, it was impossible so i put in the 9800 and installed that way.

Now, it is very, very important to upgrade from 10.6.0 to 10.6.4, you can download the stand alone installer from the APPLE site:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048?viewlocale=en_US

download the combo update and save it in another drive/usb

regarding sound i went on the easy way and put a cheap usb sound card ($10) and it recognized inmediatedly.

i'll be checking this thread often and i'll see how things goes for you

Please delete your old card info in the dsdt before installing new card or it will disturb the installation.

could you in detail please explain how to do this?

SPECS:

i7 920

ASUS P6T

6GB RAM

EVGA GTX470

Do you have Vsync issue ? Or did gfx strings solve that issue ? My GTX 47° is out of the computer until this get fixed.

Thx.

Can you check if rotation is working and dual monitor?

And if any resolution issues exist and you can play 1080p .mkv files?

Last if your color is adjustable and apple RGB is there?

Thanks in advance!

i'll try later after work.

Cheers!

mmesh,

Cards with 2 x DVI + 1 x HDMI still only show up 2 ports in system profiler as even though they have 3 physical connectors, they will only support 2 outputs at any one time AFAIK. The same goes for your DVI/VGA/HDMI. If I have misunderstood you please let me know.

aqua-mac,

Can You tell me it is possible to disable second display if it's not in use?

I have monitor connected to first DVI-I connector and my Philips LCD TV connected through DENON-1610 AV receiver to mini HDMI (ASUS GTX 470). I don't use HDMI output all the time and I'm totally annoyed with GTX 470 "feature" which spins up fans to max when using dual output even though I'm only working in 2D.

Oh, I should mention that I'm using an ##### CD to boot OS X in safe mode so I may or may not have Chameleon installed.

Hey guys I have been working a lot so I haven't been able to stop by here.

2 questions. River86, I already rebooted after installing 10.6.4. Would it be possible for me to follow this fishinrocks95 method?

Question 2: Although this thread is currently the sole authority for getting GF100 cards working, it is written at an expert-level. I am new to osx86, and I don't yet understand DSDTs, kexts, plists, etc. Are there any beginner-level step by step guides for getting OSX working that I could read and then come back to this thread and understand what it is saying?
