Why I want the 470 over the 285? Since the latest Update it´s certificated for Premiere CS5, so I´m sure it works with CS5, and it is said to be really fast with Premiere and CUDA, at about the same costs of a 285.

Thanks for your polite answers!

Thanks for your nearly undetectable sarcasm.

Don't ignore the fact that the GTX 470 is certified for Premiere CS5 on Windows, not OS X. Just like with the piano falling on your head, there is a chance that it might not work.

In October when the Fermi Quadros for Mac get released, yes there is a very good chance that that will get CUDA working on the 480/470/465 flashed to 470.

But nobody can tell you for sure - just like the piano falling on your head it can happen or not.

Hi!

I have partialy working installation with ASUS GTX 470.

I have read through (not all but some of the posts on) this thread and tried a few options of getting my GTX 470 working.

Using GraphicsEnabler with ASEREBLN 1.1.9 and PC_EFI 10.6 bootloaders results in blank screen (monitor on but nothing seen on it).

Finally I made my iAtkos S3 v2 installation boot with FullHD resolution (1920x1080@60Hz) on single screen.

I used aqua-mac Fermi fix packet, and GFX strings I created from single display GTX 285 gfx strings I found on aquamac forum and then modifying it to show right VRAM size and name.

Now I have a single display working in right resolution but I don't have QE/CI enabled.

Can someone point me on how to enable accelaration?

Thanks!

P.S. The rest of configuration is ASUS P5Q-E MBO with Intel Q9550 CPU and 8GB of 1000MHz DDR2 RAM.

And only one machine with 480 GTX works (magic? if i did all equally for other two comp. boxes)

...

With one box i played with EFI strings and after removing strings - one Fermi unexpectedly start working with this fix drivers.

Could you post the output to ioreg -l ? Also, are you able to rotate your screen?

Thanks!

I added Graphics Enabler string but on boot I got the screen saying in different languages to shut off my computer. I removed the Graphics Enabler then booted to run EFISudio and add the GFX string first. How am I supposed to use "EFIStudio GTX480 ONLY" exactly? I clicked "Add Device" and "Write to com.apple.Boot.plist." I then booted and got the same halted computer screen. Then I went back to the com.apple.Boot.plist and added Graphics Enabler again, and the screen was still there.

Do you see something wrong with my com.apple.Boot.plist?

Anyone know the legitimacy of this article?

http://www.downloadatoz.com/driver/article...faster-gpu.html

Although, they mention Mac Drivers for the GTX-480, 470 the links on the site do not lead to any Mac drivers, only windows drivers. There are still no Mac drivers for GTX4xx series on the nVidia site.

Interesting post but odd they mention using on Mac but no actual drivers present.

georgegeorge,

You should use either "GraphicsEnabler" OR "device-properties" and following GFX string but not both together.

Here is the working string for my GTX 480's:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>2560x1600x32</string>
<key>Instant Menu</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>Kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>arch=x86_64</string>
<key>device-properties</key>
<string>My Long Graphics String (removed as it takes loads of space)</string>
<key>Legacy Logo</key>
<string></string>
<key>SMboardproduct</key>
<string>Mac-F221BEC8</string>
</dict>
</plist>

There is a walkthrough here and pre worked out IN.PLIST for 1, 2 & 3 cards. (at the bottom of the list of cards) or below. Check out the walkthrough on how to use though.

The files from the Fermi Package don't work for the GTX 480 M:

GeForce.kext

GeForce7xxxGLDriver.bundle

GeForceGA.plugin

GeForceGLDriver.bundle

GeForceVADriver.bundle

GeForceVADriver.bundle.bak

NVDAGF100Hal.kext

NVDANV40Hal.kext

NVDANV50Hal.kext

NVDAResman.kext

OpenCL.framework

OpenGL.framework

Don't know why the ones ending with ".bundle" are listed as ".kext" on Aquamac's page http://aquamac.proboards.com/index.cgi?boa...amp;thread=1133.

Anyway, the files caused my monitor to power off and that was it. After deleting these kexts and restoring default files, the Apple circle just spins. Obviously, some people with GTX 480 got this thing working, but this DOES NOT work for the MOBILE version. It just screws up your Mac OS install.

I tried both the Fermi Package and Aquamac's installer and the results are the same.

mmesh,

Use this in.plist to make new strings, it contains more info than older ones. It has worked for other GTX 470 users. Don't forget to change your individual PCI address with your own one before making your strings.

Thanks aqua-mac! :P

It's working. I combined it with the 9500GT EFI string and I now have both cards declared in System Profiler.

Only problem is that it shows only two Display connectors for the Palit 9500GT Super+ (1024MB RAM DVI/VGA/HDMI out) card. I used in.plist for other 9500GT and changed NVCAP info I extracted from graphic card's BIOS and VRAM size to match.

Black screen? with my GTX470 on motherboard EP43T-USB3 healthed, with PciRoot=1 or -pci1

tested on bootloader in first post and Chameleon-2 RC4 latest, Chameleon-2 rc5.

Install from pack driver in first post frameworks and kexts, write in your com.Apple.boot.plist pciroot and oops... worked.

Very Big Thanks Enigma789

Sorry, I`m Very bad speak english.

ONLY GF100 FERMIs ARE SUPPORTED AT THIS TIME

Link to this post, feel free to copy and paste:

But the first post says:

update 2010/07/15: added gtx 460 + fermi tesla bootloader support (edit: to clarify this again: this doesn't mean os x supports it!)

Hey guys, this is my first time but I'm trying to follow this guide and I have 2 questions.

1. My computer won't boot into OS X (safe or otherwise) with 2 GTX 470s installed in the motherboard. I disconnected the power to the 2nd one but it still won't load. Think it's that it is actually seated in the motherboard without any power that is causing the problem?

2. If I want to be able to boot into OS X with 2x470s, should I just follow the steps in post 1? Or do I need to follow aquamac's (presumably different) directions?

Thanks so much!

mmesh,

Cards with 2 x DVI + 1 x HDMI still only show up 2 ports in system profiler as even though they have 3 physical connectors, they will only support 2 outputs at any one time AFAIK. The same goes for your DVI/VGA/HDMI. If I have misunderstood you please let me know.

Blindwarrior,

You will need dual GFX strings to get 2 x 470's going. What motherboard do you have?

That just means that he has patched Chameleon so that it knows the device ID of a GTX460 when you use GraphicsEnabler=y - so that instead of "Unknown Nvidia" you'll see "Nvidia Geforce GTX 460" in System Profiler under Graphics.

As long as there is no support for non-GF100 based cards in the drivers themselves, using the patched bootloader with GraphicsEnabler=y allows OS X to boot in unaccelerated framebuffer mode on a GTX 460 - just like when you boot with -x with a fully working video card. Which is nice.

As has been stated repeatedly by various forum members in this thread and others, non-GF100 Fermis DON'T WORK yet (no QE/CI), they are still not supported in the upcoming 10.6.5 update, or in the latest September 2010 nvidia drivers. Don't waste your time.

Yeah that's what I found as well. Was curious to see if perhaps a Mac driver was leaked as the article mentions flashing the 480 to register as the OSX version. Oh well, guess we will have to wait a bit longer ;-).
