Recently I had a breakthrough and was able to install Snow Leopard on my system via Hazard's distro. While it's not ideal, I know, it's the best I've been able to do so far.

So I'm making a topic to ask you guys, the community, what should I be doing now to optimise performance? The system itself seems pretty zippy, but I'm not sure if this is as fast as it will go. Before I continue though, let me post my specs.

Mobo: MSI X58 Pro

CPU: Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.63Ghz

RAM: 6GB DDDR3

HDD: 102GB WD Caviar

Video: EVGA nVidia GeForce 8500GT 1GB

I installed the 10.6.1 and 10.6.2 combo updates via Hazard's installer, and they have worked fine. Ethernet is working out of the box. Sound is working via VoodooHDA. My graphics card is being read as 1024mb of video ram

So my questions for you are as follows. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

What should I do to make sure everything is working 100%?

What should be done to ensure stability?

Should I be backing up certain things other than data? If so, where?

If I install a kext and it bricks my system, what method is there to undo my previous actions?

I'm sorry for the laundry list of nooby questions. Truthfully, I put so much time into ensuring that I could get it to boot in the first place, I've completely overlooked any post-installation procedure, and I'm finding myself sort of in the dar. This community is really the best out there, though, and I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Thanks,

Dan

Use Geekbench for example if you want to run a quick benchmark to measure your speed. An i7 system should get around 8000-9000 Geekbench points. If you're around that number, you're good.

Use your hackintosh a few days, should you encounter weird errors or kernel panics, then ask the same question again. :)

Not really needed, but it might be a good idea to backup /Extra and /System/Library/Extensions somewhere should you need a restore at some points. You can use just a USB stick for that.

Boot into your DVD and select terminal from the menu. Remove the kext using the Command line.

Hello all,

I also have questions, post-install.

My first one went extremely well - 10.6.2 onto a Dell D620.

My second, not so well. This is an Asus 1000HA netbook. I don't know where to start with post-install activities as almost nothing works. I am using a usb mouse because the trackpad isn't recognized; a usb keyboard because keyboard isn't recognized; no wireless or wired network; wrong video resolution...

Can anyone suggest a good starting point?

Thanks,

Peter
