Hi. I've installed Kalyway on a very strange server motherboard. I've tried many distros, but this is the only method I was able to accomplish with this hardware. No updates yet. It's still 10.5.2. I've been working for a month on it, as I'm very new on OSX86, and I'm also not a code guy, but finally I was able to make IDE working a little faster (it was using the apple generic ATA driver for install and for running the system initially). I also got SATA working, both with the APPLEVIAATA.kext modification, by simply adding vendor and device IDs.

But this thing is...

Now that I've got SATA woking, how can I make it bootable? I've tried to carbon copy the system partition to the SATA HD, but it won't boot. Nothing happens. Then after some more research, I think I have to add something to the boot.plist, but I can't find the rght strings in the forum and not on the web. I've been googling for days. Can anyone help me here? Maybe I have to install a newer bootloader like chameleon to load the right modified APPLEVIAATA kext beforehand?

Sorry if I'm still so lost. I'm not a programer, I'm just a musician. But I'm trying hard to make it work. The reason I want to try and boot from SATA is that the AMD 8111 PATA controler works really slow even after the APPLEVIAATA mod. OK, after the modification it wen't from 2MB/s to 10MB/s, but it is still really slow. The Sil 3114 SATA, on the other hand, is running much faster at 50MB/s, and although it's not the best possible with this kind of HDs and chipset when using proper drivers, it's good enough for my needs with this system right now. I mean, if I can ever boot from it...

Thanks on advance for any inputs on this issue. This is a wonderful comunity!

PS.: If anyone has this hardware and wants IDs for adding on APPLEVIAATA.kext, here it is:

SIL3114CT176 sata link: 3114 (device) and 1095 (vendor)

AMD 8111 chipset PATA : 7469 (device) and 1022 (vendor)

This will make your PATA working a little better and also your SATA work a LOT better. These chipsets are very comom on Tyan and ARIMA AMD server boards. Hope it helps someone out there.
