I now booted with the -v (verbose) option and it told me that it was still waiting for the root device, apparently it is not finding it with a certain UUID.

When doing your install disconnect all but the H/D you intend to use and make sure that it is connected to the first

SATA port on your Mobo (consult manual if unsure). Maybe 2TB recognised then or after Update, if not search

for a topic on this.

@ iFabio

Thanks for your clarity on MacPro Model's. :)

Also I have read reports of 4870x2 being supported in 10.6.5 so I'm considering trying this card again. My question

for you is apparently in tonymacsx86 ##### ATI HDMI support can be added (in/to?) via DSDT, how should I go about

trying to add this to your DSDT (without upsetting it otherwise). Any suggestion's greatly appreciated.

EDIT: 4870x2 working natively with (DVI-VGA dongle) after 10.6.5 & GU Update 2048vram recognised Awesome

Props to the guys & girls at Apple who slipped this one in.. :D:tomato::D

You mean while installing it can only deal with one but after it's finished I can plug in the other drives again without problem?

Also I am wondering, is the chameleon build used in the 1.15 installer a bit out of date?

If so, what do I have to do to have a later chameleon (which one do you recommend?) but still have the fixes of the 1.15 installer?

It is best to remove all the variables to ensure successful install, yes connect other drives after. If you have windows

you will have to change to run on 'AHCI' (Google it). Do this via manual navigation or cmd's not programmes. Once

again do this with only this drive connected (remember keep 1st SATA for OSX Disk).

Yes chameleon version is old so after all up and running you can update to RC5.rev354 I attached to my post#1315.

There is later but this is tried, proven and stable with our hardware. (it still works well without updated version)

I'm sure when dgobe get's around to making the new installer it will include an even later version.

I did that too but from 4,1 to 5,1 and it did´nt work. Decided to try to delete SMbios so now I have no SMbios in my extra at all and it works just the same. Still say 4,1 in the systemprofiler. Yeah this is strange for sure.

PLS a screen shot of your /Extra folder en his subfolder... also your chameleon version and exactrly the content of your SMbios.plist and com.apple.boot.plist

thx

Tonight I look into your info...

Hi,

I have GTX 285 1Gb, I tried to change to Mac 3,1 - Mac 4,1 and Mac 5,1

You know what - my open GL score is almost the same at 23.xx (with very little variation such as 23.53/23.64)

I am not sure what kind of GFX benchmark you guys are running, I use Cinebench_11.

Thanks,

Thanks for taking the time to test this, however different MacPro versions are more commonly reported as something that effects ATI cards to a much greater extent than nVidea based ones.

Thanx for your response.

AHCI for windows is no problem, since i installed it with AHCI enabled so I do not need to change anything there. I had AHCI enabled all the time already.

With "remove all the variables" do you mean the kernel options like GraphicsEnabler=n?

At least for the installer I really have to provide it or bootup is not successfull and I cannot install (after a while i get a box with text in various languages telling me I have to power down and up again, but that does not help).

Why would I need to remove all variables for a successfull install (why are those options then even mentioned in the initial post of this thread)?

I thought the second phase of installation (when snow leopard is already on harddisk) is the same since no specific drivers are installed at that time yet (specifically no specific graphics driver).

Any ideas on the 2tb drive problems? Do you think the problem comes from chameleon or old drivers?

I searched a bit but only heared from one other person of such a problem, but no resolution.

I read that the latest version 10.6.5 indroduces problems with some drivers. Do you recommend avoiding upgrading to it for now, or are there fixes?

Btw, my hardware is:

- P6T Deluxe (v1) board with 6gb ram and core i7 920 cpu (no extra soundcard, i use the one on-board)

- Nvidia GTX 470

- 4 sata harddrives (1x1tb, 1x1,5tb, 1x2tb and 1x750gb)

- 1 sata blu-ray drive

Thanx in advance!

No just keep it simple the less hardware connected the less chance of problems and easier to trace if there is any.

Sorry this is really just common sense and the way any new O/S 'Should' be installed but even more so here because

you are putting an O/S onto a system it's not designed for.

dgobe's installer installs everything you need just select DSDT for your processor & install pkg.

Then follow post install directions from first post.

For 10.6.5 update go to link below for audio & lan fix instructions

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1579951

Sorry no idea on 2TB, best to get up & running 1st. Search Forum may give you a definitive answer or try once

installed.

System Repair on a hackintosh

Hi Guys. Whats the best solution to repair system files and problems on a Hackintosh?

Personally I've never been a fan of system repair tools. That's the brilliance of OSX if you like to dabble

in places you really shouldn't it's as simple as 'Oops :D nobody sore that' and restore from 'Time Machine' ;)

It makes sense removing any non essential harddrive or hardware while installing.

But I can't remove the graphics card or I would not have hardware to draw the screen.

And I get the reboot error message even with just the one harddrive attached if I do not

provide the GraphicsEnabler=n option.

So unless you have a suggestion that is doable to avoid the GraphicsEnabler=n option,

I will have to keep using it.

I'll post an update once I tried reinstalling with just one harddrive attached on port 1.

Ok briefly there are several things going back looking at your signature (please add it via 'My Controls', top of page

above 'logged in as'). Prior to 10.6.3 Blue Ray (& SSD) drives were troublesome but getting as far as you have

probably rules that one out and also having more than 2GB Ram installed, if your 6GB is not recognised add

AppleVIATTA.kext (see post#4).

I gather you have not researched about your GFx card and what is needed to make it working. There is possibly

more but with a quick search I found this link (below) about your card. Read up on what is needed for you.. :P

I did research about my graphics card and I already found the topic you are referring to.

I used this post as guideline:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1585867

Partly it worked, partly it did not:

- When trying to boot from the harddisk itself, it gives me some boot0 error

- When using my usb chameleon boot (though still the original version from post 1) and I select the right partition.

it will boot up correctly, and I have proper working graphics.

- Also all other paritions including the 2tb drive is correctly detected and usable

- Sound works

- I'm not sure the graphics really work to their potential:

- it does not detect which gpu I have in the system profiler

- cinebench does detect my gtx 470 properly

- when running cinebench i get very low mark of 8.31 fps (a slower gtx 460 card gets 23.91 fps). i will try to find out if something is not properly set up.

I modified that guide slightly for my purposes though:

Before installing the chameleon version provided there i installed the p6t 1.15 package after upgrading to 10.6.5 so the kext files are replaces and so the network card works. After installing the fermi drivers (i used kext tool to update caches and correct permissions) I ran the perl script to correct audio.

What I would like to understand:

When using the boot loader from usb stick, will the chameleon boot loader on the harddrive be bypassed and not come into action at all (meaning only the version on usb stick is used and only Boot.plist file on usb stick is used)?

I guess I shall try to install another version of chameleon and see if that helps (the one you mentioned).

However booting from usb stick is not a real problem for me, i'll try to tweak the booting though (hiding not bootable partitions, select default boot partition).

UPDATE:

I tried both chameleon 2 rc5 r354 and the chameleon with the p6t deluxe insaller 1.15 on the snow leopard partition and both cause a boot0 error message when trying to boot from that drive.

I at least managed to upgrade to chameleon 2 rc5 r354 on the usb stick, and booting with that version from there works fine.

What might the problem with this boot0 error be?

UPDATE2:

I change to chameleon 2 rc5 r629 and with this the gpu is also properly detected.

Also I managed to improve open gl performance noticably to 23.04 fps in cinebench 11.5 by changing the string of key SMproductname from MacPro4,1 to MacPro3,1 in /Extra/smbios.plist

I still don't have any idea about the boot0 error of chameleon when booting from harddisk.

I cannot seem to get to the language selection screen. If I use the boot 132 disk from this post, RC4, I get just the black screen with the text showing progress of install. It ends with hanging on the ethernet address. If I use the boot 132 from another post, RC3, I get the silver apple screen with the spinning loader for about a minute and then the screen goes black and then just flickers.

I've tried using all the different combos of code by hitting tab after the refresh and no luck. My bios is set correctly as well.

When reading the text during the install on the black screen a few times it says cannot create directory because it's read only. This is just a guess.

Any ideas?

Just a few things to check:

- do you really have a motherboard supported in this thread (asus p6t)?

- if you have multiple harddrives, remove all but the one where you wish to install osx (and attach that to the first sata port)

- if you have additonal hardware that is not essential try removing it while doing the installation

- if you have another graphics card that you can use temorarily, try that

- did you try other kernel option combinations such as "-x -v GraphicsEnabler=n"?

- if you did not already do so, always provide the option -v which displays what's being done, maybe there is an error message that is helpful.

- if you have the option (have a mac available somewhere - it may be enough installing osx inside vmware, though): I found it very helpful booting from usb stick (best one with 8gb or more where the whole osx dvd image fits). there i had the ability to quickly alternate between different chameleon versions

- try alternating to other chameleon versions

- which version of snow leopard did you try to install? maybe it's worth trying an older or more recent version.

I have have no idea if any of these options can help, but some, especially the upper ones may be worth a try.

Yes, I do have a p6t6 ws board. I'm not sure if it's a big difference between the p6t deluxe ver 1 or 2 and my board.

I unplugged everything except 1 video card and the desired sata drive. Along with the sata cd drive.

I do not have another graphics card other than three 260's. I've tried just about every kernel option that I've found in the forums and no luck yet. I did just try the one you posted as well.

I do not have access to a mac to create the usb drive.

I purchased the new osx software at best buy yesterday 10.6.3. Seemed cheaper than buying a bunch of dl dvd's and trying to find a non corrupt dmg/iso.

Here is what happened on today's first attempt:

After the refresh, the screen showed the loading of the HFS files. Then very quickly it may have said could not determine dsdt? Then I saw a few bugs on the next set of codes and an error on getting the nram variable. There is also and error it seems with the directory not being there? Something about read-only. I took a pic with my phone, I will try and upload.

In the meantime I'm going to burn a few other boot 132 disks to try them. Would a bios upgrade help? chipset?

I really appreciate your help. I'm a web designer and I've been using Flash to build some iphone and ipad apps and Flash is falling short. I don't have the $ to buy a mac to get these projects finished as I'm nearing the deadlines.

I've gotten it to work! Ya! Not real sure how though. Here's what I changed after about 10 trys this morning.

I realized that my disk I was using used to be part of a raid set. So I used a disk erase utility. I then removed half of my memory.

I then burned the P6x58D version 2 to a disk and used it. One of those three items allowed me to not use any code on the boot and just hit enter. Everything installed very well.

I however do not have sound. I tried the sound utility as requested in step 20 and no luck. Any ideas? I'm not showing any output devices.

Thanks! Great work by all of those who have contributed. You have helped me a great deal. Now I can develop real apps instead of these half apps in Flash.

It's very important to follow directions closely. This as in most installs these days ONLY work with Retail Disk.

Another example eg. step 4 "From the menu at the top of the screen select Utilities->Disk Utility. Select your hard drive

and partition it as a GUID(GPT) disk and leave it at the default file system type. Apply the changes so the partition is laid

out and the file systems are formatted. Exit Disk Utility" probably would of saved you allot of grief.

Glad your finally up and running. As to your sound more than likely it is the "P6x58D version 2". There is NO

better full working installs for our Mobo's than this one. Then you may have to boot with safe mode to replace

the boot file with the one for your GFx card (just drag into 'Extra' folder & select replace) then use Disk Utility

for Permission repair (I did not read whole GFx topic so there 'may' be more to do) then all will work.

Reinstalling Chameleon once all your drives are connected should ensure it is not in conflict with Windows boot.

Glad you got it to work.

I think it was the raid. Osx does not like that.

We'll i don't know the internals of osx enough, to give you any real inside tips, but here's what i think you should do or have done:

- run the p6t installer that applies all the special kext drivers

- run the audio patcher using the command line command "sudo perl -pi -e 's|\x8b\x19\xd4\x11|\x9b\x98\xd4\x11|g' /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleHDA".

- download the kext utility (just search for it on google) and run it. this will make sure the drivers are in sync with the system

- make sure you do not have audio output (or input) attached to the front panel connectors but those directly on the backside of the motherboard. the provided drivers do not support the front panel. there are modified drivers out there that do support that, but i only found some that work for older versions of osx. i've sent "THe KiNG" who provided the original fixed ones a message asking for help.

Hope this helps.

I did follow directions very carefully. In fact, the three problems that I listed weren't mentioned in the directions.

My GFx doesn't seem to have much to do with my sound.

Also, If you look at my signature it does have my info in it. It was the first thing I did after I registered.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my sound to work?

Thanks

@ALL

Please note I did some testing today in relation to the Audio Patcher script and as .sh file. If I ran the script or file after an

update with my audio device connected the audio became locked in 'mute' mode. The device had to be removed and OSX

restarted before again applying the patch to get Audio. This was consistently repeatable.

Not sure if it makes any difference but my current less than average ( :) ) audio is USB powered..

I did follow directions very carefully. In fact, the three problems that I listed weren't mentioned in the directions.

My GFx doesn't seem to have much to do with my sound.

No but not using dgobe's installer does. Please try not be rude about it we are trying to help you from afar we don't

have your machine sitting in front of us and rely on your description. Nothing that has been suggested to you has

not been covered in this thread already. Your questions in many of the other threads would not even be responded to

because of repetitively answering the same questions.

So please enjoy your new set up and in future don't bite the hand that feeds you..

I updated to 10.6.5 by accident and it broke audio, shutdown and sleep.

Here's what I did to fix the problem: I applied the audio patch from post #1 then ran Kext Utility. After REBOOT, Audio, Shutdown, Sleep and Restart are fixed.

.

I hope this helps.
