RevNelson
I upgraded to 10.6.5 and after the boot screen spins for a bit, I get the grey screen of death. I don't even know how to go about fixing this. Is there some log somewhere I can post info from so you guys can see what the problem is? I have a working Windows 7 partition on this same computer that I'm using now, so I can go in to the drive and read/write files. Any help would be greatly appreciated! MrParis
Similar story to everyone else, upgraded to the 10.6.5 and seemed to only have the problem with sound. Reapplied the sound script and all working. I've tested sleep and appears to be working all correctly, however I have noticed I've had a few "Your computer needs to restart" screens when trying to shutdown the computer. Seems to be pretty random but need to do a few tests to see if it's the sleep that's causing the error etc. Overall, seems to be running stable, not noticed any other issues (so far). Eekay
Hello folks and thanks for this awesome guide and effort! I've succesfully installed Snow leopard on my computer, but I have some issues with the memory. I have 12 GB DDR3 RAM installed, but Mac OS shows the memory as 12GB DDR2. I'm not sure it actually treats the memory as DDR2, but it is still quite peculiar. Have anyone had this problem? Operating System Install Boot off the boot-132 CD you created, you can hit F8 when the system is POSTing and use the Asus BIOS Boot Selector to choose your DVD drive as the boot drive . You'll end up at a Chameleon boot screen. At this point remove the boot-132 disk and insert the Mac OS X Snow Leopard Installation DVD. Press F5 and after the screen refreshes you'll see the Mac OS X Install DVD as a boot option. Select it using the arrow keys and hit Enter to boot. This starts the retail Snow Leopard installation process. If you boot to a black screen, Start from Step 1 again and after hitting F5, hit Tab. You can try typing in the following kernel flags to get your video working. Try each combination. A visit to netkas.org might help you find information to get your card fully working after installation. -x GraphicsEnabler=n GraphicsEnabler=n arch=i386 [*]Choose your language and proceed to the next screen. [*]From the menu at the top of the screen select Utilities->Disk Utility. Select your hard drive and partition it as a GUID(GPT) disk and leave it at the default file system type. Apply the changes so the partition is laid out and the file systems are formatted. Exit Disk Utility. [*]You can now continue through the retail install process, selecting the Volume you just created as the installation target. When everything is done installing your computer will restart. [*]Hit F8 during the POST so you get the Asus BIOS Boot Selector screen. Remove the Mac OS X Snow Leopard Installation DVD and put the boot-132 disk back in the drive. Select the DVD drive from the boot selector and press Enter. You will arrive at the Chameleon boot screen again, but this time you will have the hard drive volume you just installed to as a boot option. Use the arrow keys to select it and press Enter. [*]Enjoy the video and then continue through the Apple setup process. When you get to the Registration screen you should hit Command-Q or Windows Key-Q(the windows key is between the left Ctrl and Alt keys) and skip the registration. Finish up the rest of the installation screens and you'll be left at the OS X Desktop. [*]In the upper right corner of the screen you will see an icon for the DVD drive. Double-click it and there will be an installer package named P6TDeluxeV2Installer.pkg. Double-click that and go through the installation screens. If you have multiple Volumes select the correct one as the installation target. [*]Click the Applications folder in the Dock on the lower-right, it will pop open and then you will click the Utilities folder, then click Terminal. At the Terminal screen type in: sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions Hit Enter and put in your password when prompted. This will rebuild your extensions cache so the network adapters will be recognized. You may also have to go to System Preferences in the Dock and then go to the Network icon for the adapters to be recognized. [*]Click the Apple in the upper left part of the screen and select Restart... Remove all disks from the DVD drive and see if you can boot. If you can then you are done! If not, I've encountered some boot problems in testing and the following solution helped. Raymond Lai
Here in Hong Kong, really hard to get a "branded blue tooth" dongle like Dlink, belkin . I bought 2 other OEM ones, never work though. Some mouse came with a blue tooth adepter , however only able to use with that particular mouse, never appear in system setting. For 10.6.5 , after audio fix, everything works fine except I need to hard shut down every times.

iBdb
@Raymond Lai It may be easier for you to go direct to your local apple store, or buy off net if you can find a properly supported dongle. There is a supported Hardware list both in this forum & Wiki 'but I have found them to not always up to date. @Rizwan Ahmad Khan This is for 'Retail' Snow Leopard disk only. The day's of distro's are over. For around $30 you can purchase retail disk so it won't break the bank. Considering apple could probably if not stop us at least make it very difficult to install OSX on PC's I think we should support them in some small way. @Eekay Look back to my post #1315, download and install attachment to solve Ram recognition problem. iBdb
@ Starobro & Richard79 Both of your quires are related to ATI 5xxx series card's and the issues would be better researched in threads related to these cards. Although there has been some success using various installation methods the performance has not been reported as what the card's potential should be. I linked to a couple of these a while back. Careful research of these may find the current best solution for your card/s. The 5xxx series is still really at a testing point in development. If you wish better support maybe get involved in testing provide the most complete info/test results asked for (even if you do not understand them, those requesting the tests do). A simple 'yeh it works for me (as many have done) does not help in developing solutions.. EDIT: I have also read different people reporting improved results having there systems set as Mac Pro 3.1, however deep in this thread iFabio did report good reasons for using 4.1. Why this is happening is not clear and I'm unaware of anyone researching this specifically. It may be that for some reason ATI based (some at least) may work better set as 4.1 or maybe even 11.1 or other ??? (just food for thought)
Morkeleb
Hi. I tried installing snow leopard on an 8gb usb stick. I successfully restored an image of snow leopard 10.6.3 on it, however when I run the P6T Deluxe Installer on it (version 1.15 as commented in second post of this thread), it gets stuck on installing "main" and saving the package. (I only got the german messags: '"main" installieren' and 'Paketquittierung sichern') I notice there that the cpu is saturated highly with the process "runner" of the user "_installer". What can I do? Any idea what the problem might be? Please notice that i run this on mbp with osx 10.5.8 installed. Morkeleb
ErmaC
Hi guys! I see a lot of confusion here about macmodel... Any configuration is different... My advice is.. use the better macmodel for your purpose! You can yse this: - MacPro3,1 (lot of people prefer this for GFX benchmark reason) - MacPro4,1 (my case) - or the new (need upgrade to 10.6.5) MacPro5,1 Example in Smbios.plist for MacPro5,1 <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>SMbiosdate</key> <string>11/08/2010</string> <key>SMbiosvendor</key> <string>Apple Inc.</string> <key>SMbiosversion</key> <string>MP51.88Z.007F.B00.1008031144</string> <key>SMboardproduct</key> <string>Mac-F221BEC8</string> <key>SMfamily</key> <string>Mac Pro</string> <key>SMmanufacter</key> <string>Apple Inc.</string> <key>SMproductname</key> <string>MacPro5,1</string> <key>SMserial</key> <string>xxxxxxxxxxx</string> <key>SMsystemversion</key> <string>1.0</string> </plist> </dict> </plist> I hope this help... Morkeleb
I've got an update: Even through the installer stopped i was able to boot from the usb stick that it apparently modified correctly (though I cannot be completely sure). I managed to boot up, and with the GraphicsEnabler=n option i get past the language selection and able to start the disk utility, however then I just get a waiting-mouse-sign and it does not manage to gather the disk information properly. After a while it finds one of my four harddrives and the usb stick, then nothing for a long while. I cannot even abort or click menus anymore. All harddrives I have are sata, plus a sata blu-ray drive. Any idea what the problem may be? I remember that I had a similar harddrive configuration probably a year ago, maybe replaced one or two drives with newer models, and then I was able to properly run leopard (10.5.x) properly. Btw, I have a gtx 470 graphics card, and I found some drivers, so at least on that level it should work, right?
Morkeleb
Further update: I found out that apparently snow leopard did not like my 2tb drive. Once I disconnected it I was able to install snowleopard. When the installation was finished and i clicked to restart it showed a screen in half black, and the same circling symbol that is shown on startup. But shutdown did not complete correctly, so I had to restart. When trying to boot from the drive where I installed snow leopard that does not work either, the apple symbol appears with the circling symbol, then after a minute or two some strange no-cd symbol (I think) appears just over the leaf of the apple symbol and nothing more happens but the circling symbol goes on. I tried all the various boot options, none works. - Why does'nt support snow leopard large 2tb drives? Is there a fix for that? - What can I do to make snow leopard boot up correctly from disc? Morkeleb
I now booted with the -v (verbose) option and it told me that it was still waiting for the root device, apparently it is not finding it with a certain UUID. I thought this could not happen when selecting the boot partition through chameleon... What can I do do fix it? Also, how to add proper support for large 2TB drives? I would really appreciate some help!
