I an writing from my ipod touch now Add the string you type into chameleon at boot, into your boo.plist file and change graphicsenabler to NO. For those having trouble doing fresh install of SL with an HD5770. After you get into SL and update, you HAVE TO delete all NVIDIA kext files. Or you'll be KP on reboot. Just make sure that your GraphicsEnabler is set to NO and your drivers are installed after your 10.6.4 update. It's hard but you can't waste time or else you'll KP. Reboot with -x32-v so you can repair permissions in SL. Use Kill_marks' ATI.zip package found on page 10 I think. It already has all the fixes needed in the kext files. Just install them to your /s/l/e folder. I recommend just updating to 10.6.4 and remove the NVIDIA kext and reboot BEFORE installing the kexts for the ATI card. If you can't reboot after 10.6.4, then try using #####-ati5xxx from Tonymac. Edit: Here is a better explanation taken directly from Tonymac's blog. I take no credit for this, just sharing information to help!!! TonyMacx86 Post begin.... I got that same Kernal Panic whenever I would try to install all of the ATI kexts for 5xxx series (by Netkas) using Kext Helper. It took me serveral hours of trial and error, but I was able to get the correct resolution on my XFX Radeon HD 5770 XXX Edition 1GB by installing just these three kext using Kext Helper b7: ATI5000Controller.kext ATIFramebuffer.kext ATISupport.kext ATIRadeonX3000.kext Caused Kernal Panic ATIRadeonX3000GA.plugin Caused Kernal Panic ATIRadeonX3000GLDriver.bundle Caused Kernal Panic ATIRadeonX3000VADriver.bundle Caused Kernal Panic Copy ATY_Init.kext (Can be found here) to /Extra/Extensions Navigate to /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist and copy "com.apple.Boot.plist" to desktop. Edit com.apple.Boot.plist that's on the the desktop. Change GraphicsEnabler to No It should look like this: Code: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>arch=i386</string> <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>No</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>1</string> <key>Legacy Logo</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>EthernetBuiltIn</key> <string>Yes</string> </dict> </plist> Save "com.apple.Boot.plist" Then replace /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist with the one you just edited on the desktop. Then navigate to /System/Library/Extensions/ and remove the 4 files that begin with NV* Finally run Kext Utility to repair kexts permissions. Reboot and Pray... Issues: I had to manually install a kext for my Realtek 8168 onboard ethernet. I can't get Dual DVI working so I just have One Monitor (1280x1024) active in OSX. OSX is unable to wake from Sleep probably because I don't have a DSDT for my motherboard. Sound worked out of the box. Its probably best that you completely reinstall OSX if you intend to follow these directions. Goodluck TonyMacx86 Post End... Good luck. JaS
For me the process was simple, grab the kexts from netkas. Change The Framebuffer to Vervet (This allows you to not need a dongle, also allows HDMI out) in the info.plist of ATY_Init, drop all the kexts into /s/l/e/ and run pfix on the OS X partition. set "arch"="i386" as a kernel flag and set "Graphics Enabler"="no". Taitac try this <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1680x1050x32@60</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>0</string> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>"arch"="i386"</string> <key>GUI</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Legacy Logo</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Graphics Enabler</key> <string>No</string> </dict> </plist> Every time i let my system boot by itself i am getting the default Hold the button to restart screen, but when i press F8 and then type : arch=i386 "Graphics Mode"="1680x1050x32" it starts normally How can i make it do that by default ? Find your Graphics card, open up the properties on it. Click on the Details tab. You should have “Device Instance Path” selected in the drop down. What you will see is something like PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68B8&SUBSYS… Now what you need is the numbers/letters following VEN and DEV. These are your vender and device ID numbers. My Vendor ID is 1002 and my Device ID is 68B8.
