LOLmoe
i thought it was chameleon rc5 prerelease weren't there several pre release versions? like RC5 PreRelease 6 or something. i wonder if the official RC5 will include 5770... Anyway, I ordered a Sapphire 5770, hope it works.
Trauma!
Hi All, Hot topic down there ! Glade to see HDMI works for most of you guys Can you confirm the HDMI options does shows up when HDMI is conected to a DVI monitor (without LoudSpeaker)? Works fine here without loading rom, although I still need this in DSDT for the GPU audio to work! I Guess i can add "hda-gfx" and "onboard-1" to chameleon injection, so no more need to add it to DSDT. BTW, it will be more difficult to inject HDAU device through Chameleon (but certainly possible). I'd love to see HDAEnabler integrated to chameleon as well !!! yes this is my card i setup retail 10.6.3 then setup update 10.6.4 then graphics update 1.0 but make sure that you work with boot file or you will get panic during setuping gfx update 1.0 then install chameleon manually and put boot file in partion of osx and edit boot plist now you have working GFX compleate other kexts Damn i have exactly the same card, and chameleon fails to read VBIOS!! ATY_Init does it just fine btw. What Chameleon RC/Version does them odified boot file use? It's based on chameleon trunk from SVN, ~ @ rev 396... but ease to update weren't there several pre release versions? like RC5 PreRelease 6 or something. i wonder if the official RC5 will include 5770... Anyway, I ordered a Sapphire 5770, hope it works. It certainly will be, don't worry To all people still having troubles with "boot7" lets try "boot8"
Mohamed Khairy
thanks Trauma! i will try new boot file boot 7 to me when i use ati.rom it tell me chamelon cant load rom and when use vbios it it tell me that it is successed
LOLmoe
since ati solutions are known to 'break' every update (just check the updates that netkas does every update -.-) i wonder how better/worse the 5770 will be in 10.6.5? i still haven't chose a gfx card to get, my only choices are basically gtx260, or this. unless there is a card that is powerful as these, cheap as these, and ahve around same cooling performance + power consumption lol. would you guys also recommend getting this card? or getting an nvidia card? LOLmoe
Hm, that's great progress! My future concerns are (If I were to get this card)... 1. If this will be included in the official Chameleon RC5 Release. 2. If the driver support will be good as now or even better in 10.6.5 3. If the driver and/or the card will be stable as now or even better in 10.6.5 4. Will this method interfere with updates? Because Netkas method with kexts does in most of updates. Meaning waiting to update and/or waiting for him to release (if ever). so concern 4 extended would be... Is this solution good as GraphicsEnabler=Yes for NVIDIA cards in Chameleon? Because not only it's easy for the NVIDIA Cards to be used with GraphicsEnabler=Yes, every single update from 10.6 didn't effect it. (Well I had it until 10.6.3, no personal experience with 10.6.4), I had a GTS250 by EVGA) and my Immediate concerns are... 1. What vendor works best? I see Mohammed having success with Sapphire card he suggested without ROM, while Trauma! does not have success... But I did see a member with an XFX card having success... I will update when he relays the information back. cross fingers, hope it works!

sbeehre
I got a Sapphire 5770 1GB card set the UseAtiROM in com.apple.boot.plist copied boot7 into the root of my drive and its all working fine thanks to all the good info in this thread. I was using ANVAL's boot file but i found that it just booted to a black screen.... but when i added boot7 it worked fine. What is it in the boot7 file that enables the card to work correctly? LOLmoe
it doesn't matter if it's in beta or nt because the graphics drivers are updated in that version and it breaks it. (and now i only got 2 sources thats saying it's broken and one is confirmed to be using ATY_Init.kext method NOT Trauma's method) i asked hi mto try it and reply back. hopefully it works. chances are the ATY_init.kext method won't work at all in 10.6.5 i wonder what trauma did to the boot file to make 5770 work? only file he edited was ati.c correct? i wonder what ati.c contains, if it's just a placeholder for the same information for ATY_init.kext odds are it won't work. But if it's a competlely different way to load a card, then I don't see why it wouldnt work.
shazeal
Yes ATY_Init does not work in 10.6.5 for me atleast using a Gigabyte 5770 1GB. I tried using boot8 which has an error and hangs when detecting the PCI Root ID (Booting safe mode works however). Changing to boot7 and using the Gigabyte ROM works fine. So I am in 10.6.4 64bit with my 5770 right now, will update to 10.6.5 once my backup completes.
shazeal
Ok neither ATY_Init nor using the boot7 + rom work using the 10h525 build. I had to boot to do the following to get 10.6.5 to boot. Boot single user mode and copy the Mac Mini ATI5000 kexts. Boot into safe mode and use Pacifist to fully install the Graphics Update 1.0, just updating the ATI Kexts did not work. So now I am running boot7 + Gigabyte ROM, 10.6.5 64bit (10h525) with 10.6.4 Graphics Update 1.0 installed. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next seed. EDIT: I would also hazard a guess that ATY_Init would work doing this as well. Never mind all that, I logged into my ADC and saw that 10h529 was available, it works flawlessly. So am running boot7 + Gigabyte ROM, 10.6.5 64bit (10h529).

xX_SynT@x_Xx
Ein kleines How To wäre sehr schön. LG
FKA
Thanks for DSDT. How many channels you can get? It depends on LCD/LED/Plasma TV (mostly only 2 channels) or a receiver that has the feature of "Audio and 1080p Video Processing via HDMI." You can get 5.1 or 7.1, including encoded digital output, that based on your receiver. GT240 to a receiver Thanks for confirming I went through my LCDTV manual last night and it does not pass multi channel audio from another device connected via HDMI, it only passes multi channel from it's own receiver to fibre output. As you say you would have to connect direct to your multichannel receiver/decoder to achieve 5.1 or 7.1. Hi All, Hot topic down there ! LOLmoe
Shazeal, For boot7 file, you're saying it works in 10.6.4 and the latest developer beta of 10.6.5? Common Sense
It will be interesting to see how many channels you get once you get it working, I would just love to get stereo 24 bit and 96 khz then I can stop using my built in HDA audio and buy a cheap usb sound card for input Any progress with your HDMI audio? LOLmoe
out of Trauma's and tmongkol's methods. which one do you guys think is more stable? both don't require any kexts... (Granted I have Mac OS X 10.6.4 and Graphics Update installed since 5770 is supported natively now) can anyone tell me what the deal with framebuffer is? what exactly is it? what are these code names and what does it do? can radeon hd 5770s have different framebuffers depending on manufacturer? still trying to choose gtx 260 vs 5770 lol. oh and with trauma and tmongkol... do both DVI Ports work? does 1 DVI work regardless of the 2 ports I plug it in? does HDMI port work by itself? So I guess im asking if the dvi/hdmi combinations work 100%. like HDMI alone, DVI port A alone, DVI Port B alone, DVI Port A/B Dual, DVI Port A + HDMI, DVI Port B + HDMI thanks
vlad1966
Trauma!, what's the diff between boot7 & 8? I'm currently using boot7 with an ATI .rom in my /extra. I can run in 64-bit - only problem seems to be that every 7th or 8th boot/reboot, I get a black screen. Then I have to switch my DVI cable to the other DVI port on my vid card in order to see the desktop. THANKS!

I only connect HDMI display to my computer. I have not tried connecting DVI display and then connecting HDMI display/tv when the computer has booted into mac os x. It seems that it enables HDMI sound when it detects HDMI connected so I think it should work fine too. Is your card reference design? I have a sapphire card and I think its pretty much reference design. Maybe some brand that change the reference design can be a little trouble? ndboost
Hey everyone, i followed this thread to install a xfx 5750 on 10.6.4 and im experiencing the following issues.. I followed tonymac's instructions on how to install the kexts.. if i install the x3000 kexts i get a panic... If i uninstall these the machine just hangs at loading voodoohdadevice and sits there until i turn it off.. look at attached screenshots. for both scenarios. 1st screenshot is of the x3000 uninstalled, 2nd is the kernel panic. arch=i386 is set graphicsenabler=no all NV* are deleted from /s/l/e aty_init has been edited and installed vervet has been added as well Any ideas? This is not a fresh install, i dont have the discs or anything to do a fresh install at the moment.. this install was running a 9600GT but like i said i've uninstalled all nvidia drivers. screenshots:
