bofors
When building an OSx86 box, it is usually best to start by choosing the right motherboard. By the processor you have listed, it sounds like a 915 motherboard may be the way to go. Do you already have the processor? Next up is consideration of the graphics situation. The PCI nVidia card you have listed should work, but probably will not work that well. Going with a motherboard with Intel's integrated GMA graphics (900 or 950) should certainly be considered. Your Dell keyboard, mouse and monitor should all work fine. icey-ice-ice
why can't i use a pentium 4 ? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20468-building-a-x86-mac/#findComment-135310 Share on other sites
bofors
why can't i use a pentium 4 ? Do you know exactly which Pentium 4 you have? Does it have SSE2 or SSE3? It sounds like you just want to run OS X on the parts you already have. What kind of motherboard(s) do you have to work with? Be very specific. gwprod12
your CPU only supports sse2. It's most likely a 478. It will work... but an sse3 cpu would be better. OK, now tell about your motherboard(s), whether or not you need to dual boot and if you can dedicated an entire hard drive to OS X. petrus101
the only thing i am concerned about is the internet connection working How are we gonna know if your network card will work if its not posted? Is it an onboard chip? ie. Integrated into the motherboard or PCI? one more thing can i use my ethernet cable? The ethernet cable has nothing to do with it. It's a matter of whether OSX has native support for your card , or if your lucky somone has written a 3rd party driver. i would really prefer to dual boot off my 60 gb drive. If you follow a guide properly, It's fairly easy to do. If you have never partitioned a hard drive or even know what that means then you should definetly backup before trying. I NEED SOME ANSWERS HERE PEOPLE IS MY STUFFCOMPATIBLE OR NOT? Processor: Yes, But no sse2 means rosseta apps, ie. non - intel, will be slow or may not run at all Motherboard / RAM: Most likely Sound: Unsure of card, Lots of people have trouble with sound tho Network: Same as above, unsure PS: Dont use caps, its annoying & you'll find not many people will be willing to help you. petrus101
Ahhh... OSX wont fit on CD'S, So I hope you mean DVD'S. Yes it can be done, You need a windows program called VMware Search the forums / Wiki for "VMware to native install" theres also a video tutorial Here You will find that lots of people use this method, It take quite alot longer than a native install tho, If i were you id get a friend to burn the dvds for you or something, Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20468-building-a-x86-mac/#findComment-136500 Share on other sites

EDIT: I NEED SOME ANSWERS HERE PEOPLE IS MY STUFFCOMPATIBLE OR NOT? i don't mean to be rude but i need this for school You know, it would help out a LOT if you would actually post some relevant information about what type of hardware you have. The information you have posted tells us absolutely NOTHING about what motherboard you have, other than it being based on the 845 chipset. You have told us nothing about your network card, your sound card, etc. How do you expect people to help you when you don't give us the information that we need?
