nachdenki
Hi, so I installed Snow Leopard on my PC recently (already have a macbook and wanted it on my pc as well) and it pretty much worked like a charm (first two installs failed, third one worked) without me doing a lot. There's only one thing that I can't get to work, no matter what I try (already killed my SL once trying to get it to work): The Sound. I have an GA-EP45-DS3R (which means an A889a soundchip if I'm not mistaken). I read that you have to edit your DSDT and insert HDEF in there, I checked mine and it seems like it has already been done (I used a SL installation specifically for my board, so that's probably why). I already tried like a trillion different kext files, but they all seem to do nothing, all I get is "no sound output device found" and "no sound input device found". I think things get even more complicated because I need to get the digital optical output of my soundcard working, the normal output won't be enough for me (but doesn't work as well, I tried!). Strange thing is, that one way or another SL seems to recognize my soundcard. When I go to Apple -> About this mac -> additional info -> audio, all my audio outputs are listed (including the digital optical out) ... but under system settings -> audio nothing turns up. So, anyone got any ideas? I'm pretty handy with computers, so as long as you have a good enough tutorial for me I think I can do most things that are needed to be done. It's the last step to make my SL install perfect and it's really important for me (as I listen to a lot of music and watch a lot of videos). Ideas? Thanks My PC Specs GA-EP45-DS3R Radeon 4870 800Mhz DDR2 RAM (4GB) SL is installed on an old 300GB IDE drive Unfortunatly, I can't find the page of the efi-installer I used (I used the thumb drive approach to install SL), but I added the kext and DSDT from the EP45-DS3R F11e archive in this post to my install: http://efixusers.com/showthread.php?t=598 if you need any more, ask! -CEOS-
Hi mate, i attached my dsdt and kernel extensions. you have t update your ep45-ds3r to the latest beta bios (f11e) ! dsdts are based on bios, that´s why you need the bios version the dsdt was made for. otherwise it will not work ! use @bios, choose load file and load the beta bios. digital sound should work, but i can´t guarantee, i have no digital audio device to proofe it. you just need the legacyHDA kext to get sound working, but i would recommend to use all of my kexts. then you will get a hardly perfect working system. don´t forget to upadate to 10.6.2, otherwise sleepenabler will panic ! feel free to ask if you still have questions good luck Archiv.zip
nachdenki
hi, first let me say thanks for the very kind response. I tried to add your files to my existing SL installation (not sure if that's supposed to work) by copying the DSDT to /Extras and installing the LegacyHDA.kext via kext helper ... unfortunatly, SL refused to boot afterwards (kernel panic in CPUPowerManagment.kext). I'm trying a fresh install of SL with your kexts and DSDT right now. all I do for that is create a usb drive with the SL install disc on it, then I let an app I downloaded run on it that installs the fake efi, then I use your kexts and DSDT instead of the ones that came with the installer, right? I'm especially not sure about the "run app on it" part ... I found numerous of those apps and tutorials that go with it online, I took the one that worked best for me and then manually copied some kexts and a DSDT for my board on it ... we'll see how that goes. btw, I already had F11e installed fortunatly :-) again, thanks for the kind response, I will update this post as soon as I tried installing SL with your DSDT and kexts edit1: so first thing I can say is that your sleep enabler kext doesn't work for me (KP at the very beginning of the installation process, even before the spinning wheel appears under the apple. it says "version mis-match between kernel and CPU"), which is quite interesting because another sleep enabler kext that was supposed to be for the ep45-ds3r f11e didn't work as well in the past. I suppose some misconfiguration in my bios could be the cause of it, any ideas? Meanwhile, I will try another sleep enabler kext, which is actually for the ep45-ud3lr or something, but worked for me in the past. edit2: unfortunatly, it didn't work. it's still exactly the same as before, it just says "no output devices found" and "no input devices found". could a faulty bios setting be the cause of this, maybe? I'm really out of ideas.
nachdenki
interesting thing I found out ... I justed booted into an absolute vanilla version of SL, no modifications whatsoever (except of course for chameleon, since I need a bootloader of some sort) ... works right out of the box - except for the sound of course. this is interesting because it works exactly the same as my modified versions of SL. graphic cards works fine, ethernet works fine, standby works fine (I've heard a lot of people have trouble with it). so what's going on here? all these kexts and whatnot are not needed after all? still, my sound is NOT working though :-( I just thought this was pretty interesting
-CEOS-
ok, i see you made some mistakes. the first importand thing is that you can´t install snow leopard with my sleepenablere. this version of it is just for 10.6.2, that´s why it panics with your 10.6.0 install dvd. you have to use a older version of sleep enabler, or just totally exclude it. (you can install osx fine without it) second: all my kexts goes to chameleon extension folder, NOT into apples extension folder !! chameleons extensions folder is: "chameleoninstallhdd"/extras/extensiones. the modified DSDT and the LegacyHDA.kext work hand in hand, you need both, otherwise sound will not work. the DSDT must be placed in "chameleoninstallhdd"/extras I suppose some misconfiguration in my bios could be the cause of it, any ideas you should start with resetting bios to factory settings first this will clean your cmos completely and will minimize cmos related trouble. now you should turn off EIST and C1E, otherwise CPUPowerManagment.kext will panic ! then you must turn SATA AHCI mode on, or no drives will be found by osx. i´m not sure if this is importand, but i would recommend to you to disable floppy drive, paralel port and set HPET to 64 bit usb mouse support can be turned on. then installed osx on your harddrive (btw, which methode do you use to install it ?), install chameleon, update to 10.6.2, restart and then copy all of my extension into chameleons extra/extensions folder and the DSDT into its extra folder. restart. that´s all, now you should have a good working hackintosh ! btw, your nick let me guess that you are german. if that is the case, we should take the whole conversation into german, it´s my native language and i rule it much better than english
