The fakesmc plugins project now allows the following in iStat Menus;

CPU voltage monitoring

CPU, GPU and NB temperature monitoring

GPU_FAN, CPU_FAN, PWR_FAN, SYS_FAN1 and SYS_FAN2 speed monitoring

CPU_FAN speed control (no GPU_FAN speed control yet)

 

Here's SL i386 and x86_64 compiled, revision 181 from `svn co http://subversion.assembla.com/svn/fakesmc'.

 

My modifications;

1. Changed fakesmc's Info.plist for post 1, item 13.

2. Added GPU_FAN, CPU_FAN, PWR_FAN, SYS_FAN1, SYS_FAN2 names to fakesmc's Info.plist.

If your GPU isn't supported, remove GPU_FAN and shift the others back one place.

3. Added GPU nvidia GeForce GTX 285 support to the FakeSMCnVclockPort/src/backend/info.cpp source according to;

4. Changed `Enable Fan Control' in FakeSMCSuperIO's Info.plist from false to true.

 

It needs to have 755 permissions, root:wheel ownership, and be located in /System/Library/Extensions/.

It includes Applehda binpatched for ALC888, 889 and AD2000B

Yes, but I will try again.

They are flashing green and yellow when a cable is plugged in but do not appear in the SP-Network pane.

So I tried again with the RTGMac_v2.0.4 installer from Realtek. The result was that it killed my NIC (PCI with 8169 chip) too. I then checked for the presence of the AppleRealtek8169.kext plugin in IO.....MacOS....plugins and it was there.

I rebooted four times to switch the two onboard Lans off and on in BIOS—interestingly even when OFF in BIOS they still flash yellow and green when a cable is plugged in! At this point no Lan ports were working so I ran the RTGMac_v2.0.4 uninstall command and still no Lan on the NIC. It turns out that the uninstaller does just that and does not replace the original AppleRealtek8169.kext plug. I relaced it manually and now the NIC is working again although not the onboard ports.

I guess someone with more knowledge (bit Shoveller are you out there) might be able to fix the RTGMac_v2.0.4 kext!

 

 

Have you tried resetting the ports according to the instructions in post 1?

hi

i follow the page 1 to edit my ga-x58a-ud7 F6 dsdt to correct the azal to HDEF. and i download the patch applehda.kext and put it the S/L/E and put egacy889HDA.kext to E/E . and i run the kext utility. but i still can't get any sound.

 

i am newbie, can anyone help?

 

and my dsdt have this code, i have add it. is this cause my onboard sound not work?

Sorry to be thick, but what does "move back one place" mean? Delete F0ID and GPUFAN and F1ID-> F0ID, F2ID -> F1ID thru to F4ID -> F3ID?

 

 

Are there other plugins needed with your edited fakesmc? I can see a fan and thermometer icon in istat but they display nothing.

That's not a link, it's a command you run in a Terminal window to get the source.

You remove any old fakesmc.

Not working for me.

Removed old fakesmc.kext from E/E

Deleted GPUFAN in info.plist and changed as indicated

Added to S/L/E

Fixed permissions using Kext Helper

 

Still boots and istat shows a fan and temperature icon but no values underneath

Click on fan and thermometer in Edit Preferences - Active items and nothing pops up.

 

What have I done wrong?

The new rev works great I have my gpu fan speed and gpu diode temp.

 

As a side note has anyone noticed their machine running a bit hotter after the 10.6.4 update? I used to sit in the mid to low 40's not Im sitting right around 50 idle with no change to any of the computer settings aside from the 10.6.4 update. I see that the speed stepping is still in effect since my voltage is still 1.15v till I load it up to 1.34V. Any thoughts?

Dood to get admission to posting at projectosx site you prior need to pass a test with basic osx86 questions. Hagar implemented this to keep this site free from spamming with completely wrong guides and tips like insanelymac.

I tried de FakeSMC rev.171+plugins original version and it's in my /Extra/Stored_Kexts/

and it works !

 

Installed it with 4.51 Digital Dreamer Script and build the Combined boot caches

 

 

Going to try Your fan mods to night !

 

N.B. rev.190 is out !

The fakesmc plugins that I have included have no dependency on the DSDT.

What does your kernel.log show?

At some revision fakesmc doesn't panic if not installed in SLE, but the plugins won't work unless installed there.

I just tested Open GL performance with CINEBENCH_11.529 after updating to 10.6.4.

The score went down dramatically from 37.4 to 14.6.

I have nVidia GTX 285 and Cuda 3.014 driver installed.

 

Can someone with the same card test Open GL performance on 10.6.4 ?

My Geekbench scores increased from 10.6.2 to 10.6.3, and stayed about the same from 10.6.3 to 10.6.4.

However, my video performance has dropped significantly.

In 10.6.4 I get 14.55 with CINEBENCH_11.529, but I didn't test previously.

With the following settings in 10.6.2 I got 900 to 1300 FPS with OpenGL Extensions Viewer:Tests, didn't test in 10.6.3, but with 10.6.4 I only get 110 to 114 FPS;

Display Mode: 1920 x 1080 x 32 bpp (60.0 Hz)

Anisotropy 16

I can also confirm these scores. I just updated the drivers, my OpenGL Extensions Viewer scores, using the stats d00d set are 127-124 fps not as low as d00ds but a pretty big drop, and my CINEBENCH score is in the 14's also.

Sorry to be ignorant but I can't find any kernel.log file. Can you point me to the right place. I have looked and searched all the usual suspects.

 

The messages listed below on yours are what I see on my cartro Quadcore in verbose boot where your fakesmsc works fine.

I don't see these messages on the X58A rev. 2 but some messages about fakesmc failing to load something do flash by—I'll make a video of it and post.

 

 

The fakesmc plugins that I have included have no dependency on the DSDT.

What does your kernel.log show?

At some revision fakesmc doesn't panic if not installed in SLE, but the plugins won't work unless installed there.

I have an interesting finding about the graphics performance after 10.6.4 update. First of all, I have two systems: Core i7-920 on GA-EX58-UD5 configures as MacPro4,1 and Core i5-750 on GA-P55M-UD4 configured as iMac11,1. Furthermore, I have two graphic cards: GTX 285 and GTX 260. Therefore I have four combos of system+graphics.

 

1. MacPro4,1 + GTX 285: Graphics performance dropped significantly compared to 10.6.3.

 

2. MacPro4,1 + GTX 260: Graphics performance UNAFFECTED!

 

3. iMac11,1 + GTX 285: Graphics performance dropped significantly compared to 10.6.3.

 

4. iMac11,1 + GTX 260: Graphics performance dropped significantly compared to 10.6.3.

 

Both systems have same kexts in /S/L/E (RealtekR1000SL.kext) and /Extra (fakesmc.kext, OrangeIconFix.kext, ALC889a.kext). Both systems also have similar DSDT fixes. Hope someone can find out what's going on.

The log is in /private/var/log/, or you could open Applications:Utilities:Console and select it from the list on the left.

Thanks Dood.

 

Now it is working to show CPU fan speed and voltage and northbridge temp, etc., but not SYS1 or SYS2 fans; looking at the MB, these are only 3-pin connectors so perhaps that is why it cannot sense the speeds?

 

Here is the most recent kernel log. It shows how the onboard 8111E chipset is not found but that the NIC is.

 

From the messages, can someone tell me if there is something else that is missing/needs tweaking in the dsdt?

The i7-980x is now supported natively in the 10.6.4 kernel.

 

force64 and busratio=25 are no longer needed with 10.6.4

 

Only issue I've seen so far is About this Mac doesn't recognize the Processor even after adding

<key>SMcputype</key>

<string>1793</string>

 

I've attached my DSDT that was created via d00b's method on page 1

 

DSDT.aml and dsdt.dsl for i7 980x, derived from GA-EX58-UD5 ver 1.0 and BIOS F12, with S3 sleep, fixes (doesn't include 18 and 19) and audio option B->(post 548): DSDT_GA-EX58-UD5_F12_S3_980x.zip

After updating to 10.6.4 and updating the drivers d00d linked to (the link is currently dead) I have been getting an error message about needing to update my cuda drivers. I did some looking around and apparently nvidia realizes that the 10.6.4 update nerfed the cards significantly and are working on getting something out to fix it. So hopefully there is another update here sooner than later.

 

Just letting everyone know what I had found.

Hmm, my time clock in the OS is running shockingly fast. Maybe by up to 30% FAST! Has anyone come across a situation similar to this? I'm overclocking bclk but About this Mac says the stock clock rate and "Unknown" for the processor name... I'm thinking this is all related.

this bios has patched Facp. (credits for Facp go to BSoD)

No need for any restart fixes or evoreboot and similar!

So I flashed this bios and have been running smoothly since May.

Today, I updated to 10.6.4 and get a kp unless i boot in safe mode.

Any thoughts?

I get a version mismatch between kernel and cpu pm
