dmijic
Just updated from Software Update, and everything worked out fine, by the way I'm booting in 64bit kernel... Ethernet, Sound, shutdown, x64 kernel boots fine, everything works as before. @Bidule So in my case sound works ! we have same audio chip 889A my mobo is gigabyte ep35-ds3r and 8600 gt, kext in my extra/extensions folder are: AHCIPortInjector ALC889A ATAPortInjector CPUInjector fakesmc Framebuffer_Disabler IOAHCIBlockStorage Injector NullCPU Power Management OpenHaltRestart Platform UUID (so no Sleep Enabler - I think I had some problems with it while installing so I kicked it out) I have the same configuration but with 9600 GT. 10.6.2. works fine for me too but CMOS setup gets deleted on every new boot so I have to select "Last known good configuration". Do you have the same problem? I know that it can be fixed with dsdt patching but I was wondering is there any other (easier) way? I don't even have dsdt.aml on my system. alidarbac
I resolved this issue in this way: I booted from my 10.6 USB stick, then went into the console. I xopied /System/Library/Extensions/dsmos.kext to another directory, then deleted the one in the extensions folder. Ran KextUtility to rebuild the cache, then rebooted. I was able to get in just fine. I didn't ever recall putting dsmos in there, but I guess I had. It didn't show up in kextstats. A note, though: If you do this MAKE SURE you have Fakesmc.kext from netkas! I had to use it. I can boot now without a KP, but I get some weird error in the verbose boot about FakeSMC: key info not found MSDS, length " 6. Even though things are running smoothly now, I don't know if that error is going to mean bad things down the road. No one seems to know anything about it. Best of luck in the meantime! I ended up fixing it by installing PCEFI 10.5 to my softraid and replacing sleepenabler and nullcpupowermanagement from netkas's site. I had a similar experience with random kexts that I didn't install myself. Did you once have a Leopard install with dsmos.kext? If you did and used Migration Assistant to copy it over, it'll copy over any non-vanilla stuff in your /S/L/E Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/196762-1062-released/page/6/#findComment-1327441 Share on other sites
radekge
Can someone please give some info on vanilla support for P55/i7/i5 with 10.6.2 !? Please /E Yes, core i5 + P55 work with vanilla 10.6.2 kernel. However, in "about this mac" the cpu is "unknown" as is the ahci controller. We have to wait for real i5 iMacs to appear to see how it's done there. But it works. Brewers
Updated an hour ago. I also got KP'ed when booting in x64 mode, because of the Geforce7200GS. 32-bit mode is fine, tough. I'm currently using the old 10.6.1 Nvidia kexts to be able to boot in 64-bit mode. I wish there was a way to make the new kexts working for my card. I wonder, are Geforce 8xxx/9xxx generally working without KP in x64? altares
Hi all, I've been on Vanilla SL x64 since now 2 months without any major issues and I installed the 10.6.2 update again without any problem. But, today I was gonna watch TV via the 2nd DVI connector of my 9800GTX+, and it didn't go so well : no response even when turning off the TV, the PC is completely frozen. I tried several times, rebooting with the TV on ..etc without any improvement. Before the update, it worked pretty well each time. It never did this. Can you help me? This feature is a major one for me since I always watch TV from my hackintosh. ericschmerick
I have exactly the same situation. Updated, KP, removed sleepenabler.kext, then OK. But I found that I couldn't surf the web, and then I saw in sys prefs that ethernet says not connected. I didn't have time last night to troubleshoot the problem, but I really don't know where to start anyway. I'm on a Gigabyte EX58-UDP5 i7 with MSI 9400GT (efi string). Originally I could never get the on-board ethernet working with that realtek kext, so I put in a d-link DFE-530T card and used skge.kext (rev e or something like that). It was rock solid until this. I'll post here if I find a fix. Here's my second problem after installing the 10.6.2 update. (The first problem being 'sleepenabler.kext' which caused a kernel panic during boot up. Luckily netkas' updated 'sleepenabler.kext' fixed that. ) I've been using a TU2-ET100 TRENDnet USB to 10/100Mbps Adapter and it worked great on 10.6/10.6.1. Networking stopped working after updating to 10.6.2, it still shows up in the system profiler as 'AX88772' and in system preferences/network it shows "USB Ethernet Not Connected". I found this while searching google for a fix... "The MacOS update seems to contain an updated driver for USB ethernet: Mac OSX 10.6.1: com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEthernet version 2.0.9 Mac OSX 10.6.2: com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEthernet version 2.1.0" Any suggestions? edmondwck
My CPU is celeron 420. It seems that it is not supported in 10.6.2 It stopped at the grey screen (no spinning wheel) just after leaving the chameleon bootloader. Replacing the kernel with 10.6.1 kernel solve the problem. breakingbad
Kernel Panic for me, Blue and black screen with corrupted image. I'm almost sure the problem is with HD4850 as usual. Tried to: - Removed sleepenabler.kext, applecpupowermanagement.kext (before install update 10.6.2) - restore deviceid in ati4800controller.kext, - reinstalled all previous kexts working on 10.6.1, - instaled EFI 10.5, was usung 10.4.1 in SL10.6.1 No luck with any of these steps... I'm able to boot from Darwin Boot CD in safe mode (-x) ethernet working but stretched low res video but it sucks!!! Can't boot in safe mode directly from HD though. If anyone has a solution please post! Hi there. Have you checked netkas.org already? Looks like there's something about HDXXXX Radeon GFX cards to be bootable in 10.6.2 version. Take a look there. Looks like there's something about HDXXXX Radeon GFX cards to be bootable in 10.6.2 version. Take a look there. Cheers. bb. Yes bb I'm looking here and there, tried the solutions but still have KP. Last thing I tried was "repair kext permissions" as netkas suggested to someone with a similar problem. I used Disk Utility to do that. Another info: My 4850 appears as 4890 in system information. Is this relevant? If so, How can I correct it? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/196762-1062-released/page/6/#findComment-1328079 Share on other sites
apple pie
I gave up trying to get my usb ethernet adapter working after upgrading to 10.6.2, but I got my onboard ethernet working using Bit Shoveler's Realtek R1000 kext!!!! Download here: Realtek R1000 (Realtek 8168/8111) 64 bit! P.S. Using an EVGA x58 SLI LE mobo It seems 10.6.2 updates 'ionetworkingfamily.kext' which is going to cause conflicts with some people's network cards/adapters. I reboot, and after, when I choose my partition with chameleon 2RC3 and Pcefi 10.5 , after 3 second, my notebook reboot. I can't acces to desktop. The only way to run SL is delete the mach_kenrel 10.2.0 and reinstall the old 10.0.0 Can you help me? With the repeat reboot after i choose SL 10.6.2 in Chameleon. Thank you very very much to all. werdy
if you have black screen after booting ... delete following prefs/plists if existing in directory (boot with -x): /Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.preference.display* /System/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.preference.display* /Users/YOURUSER/Library/Prefereneces/ByHost/com.apple.preference.display* same to *loginWindow* prefs/plists ... in all that directories if existing ... restart and your EFI string will work again ... This solution solved my black screen problem on GTS 250, but when I connected my second screen (TV) to the second DVI the system hung. Finally I've restored old (10.6.1) Nvidia kexts and now everything is fine. Thunderclap
I had forgotten I had SleepEnabler.kext installed and upgrade SL to 10.6.2. Now I get a kernel panic when I try booting. I've tried starting in Verbose and Single User Mode but neither works. I accessed the drive through Windows by way of MacDrive and deleted the SleepEnabler.kext file from /Extra/ as well as the boot cache file from /System/Library/Caches/. I was hoping a reboot would then rebuild the cache file. It didn't work. Does anyone have a suggestion how I can get my system up and running again without reinstalling everything? I'd like to try and avoid that if possible. I appreciate any suggestions.
