Chameleon should work, the Kakewalk CD uses it and I can boot into any of my OS boot drives with the CD. I would like to use it as well but have spent the last 3 days setting up a rather complicated drive arrangment and don't want to start over trying to install Chameleon! lol

Anyone installed Chameleon?

ya just download ##### and install the supplied theme

works great

i think you can add some new ones after that one is in

Thank you! done!

It halts on boot up and requires pressing any key and has Debug_DSDT file on last line. Not sure what that indicates or if it is normal. I guess I'll read up on the ##### forum.

Just checking in to let people know that I used Kakewalk with a Gigabyte G41M-ES2L motherboard and Asus 8400GS and it works flawlessly with Snow Leopard 10.6. Video card/bluetooth/network/etc all work out of the box. Just as easy as install OSX on a real mac! Thanks.

What's the proper way to update my 10.6 install to 10.6.3? I did that before and SL wouldn't boot anymore... just a black screen with the cursor at the top left of the screen? Do I have to run the bootCD and install the bootloader again like the instruction below to get 10.6.3 working?

Just a simple question...

Anyone experiencing any lag every minute or so?

It started when I finished installing kakewalk (with 10.6.0).

Updated to 10.6.2, still the same.

After installing nullpowermanagement kext it seemed that it went better but still not resolved.

Same on 10.6.3.

Now if I do anything with the system (e.g. in Disk Utility, System Configuration, ...) it starts to hang up so that i have to reboot the system.

Just want to know if anyone has the same problem and what it could be.

My system specs:

EX58-UD5

i7 920 2.66Ghz

NVIDIA 9800 GTX+

1x SSD (for OSX)

2x HD (Harware Raid 0)

Yes, that set up should work perfectly fine. Good luck, it should be fairly simple with this guide thanks to this AWESOME guy! ;)

I have the same setup (EX58-UD3) and the system is running great (a bit hot thou)

I'm still having trouble with my install using kakewalk, and I still can't figure out what it is I'm doing wrong.

My Hardware is

EX58-UD5

i7 920

Radeon HD 4890

6gb ram

1 500 gb HDD (Windows 7 installed)

1 2 TB HDD (nothing installed)

I have a Powerbook G4 that I've been using to help with the install. I believe it's what caused me trouble with trying the USB install before. Used a friends Macbook to formate the USB flash drive properly.

Previously When the drive was plugged in and the computer booted it would freeze on the gigabyte logo screen and I couldn't even get into BIOS.

After reformatting the drive I can now access BIOS when I boot, and have adjusted the settings following the guide exactly. When I save and exit BIOS, it gets to the Verifying DMI pool and will not continue. I've rebooted several times, even unplugged the drive that has windows installed on it. I'm not sure what I should try next. If there's a step I'm over looking any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll continue searching through the forum for a solution.

not sure if this is a factor or not but I'm using a wireless Logitech keyboard/mouse combo. The receiver plugs into the mobo's keyboard and mouse ports. Just a thought that it may be causing a problem.

I just installed Snow Leopard on my rig and I'm having some issues with my dual boot. As soon as I changed to SATA settings in the BIOS to AHCI I can no longer boot into Windows 7, I get a BSOD. Guess I needed to install the Gigabyte SATA driver first.

How is the effort going to have the hardrive icons show up as the usual grey HDD icon instead of the orange external HDD icon?

To make Windows play nice, you have to put them in their place: the white sata ports on your GA-X58A-UD7. I use the GSATA 3_6 and the GSATA 3_7 for mine and set them for IDE in the BIOS, mainly because these 2 ports run off the Marvell chipset fed directly from the PCI Express bus and are rated for 6Gb/s transfer.

My System is running well this side..

I have one issue though... and it comes in the form of what I think to be a memory leak..

When I boot my system, before I open any apps (apart from activity monitor) I have +600MB inactive system memory... Leaving it for the day, it can raise to over 1GB inactive..

Right now, I am running limewire, folx, chrome(6 Windows, 50 Tabs) and system memory looks like this;

Free - 665.5 MB

Wired - 727 MB

Active - 2.29 GB

Inactive - 2.35 GB

Used - 5.35 GB

VM Size - 184.42 GB

Page ins - 2.14 GB

Page outs - 2.5 MB

Swap used - 5 MB

Total RAM - 6 GB

Do these numbers look ok?

Also I have not made the break to 10.6.3... any other X58A-UD5 users have anything to report of some advice on doing the update?

This might be the issue, I have copied this from the Kakewalk website.

"I'm getting a boot0: error message

This happens when you have a partition that is 1TB or more. The only solution to this is repartitioning the harddrive (eg. 2x500GB)."

Perhaps this is your issue?

I've tried all three of the Chamelon bootloaders included with ##### but I have a problem when I go to restart the computer hangs in OSX.

I've gone back to the Kakewalk bootloader install but I can't figure out how to enable or use a theme with it. It's Chamelon 2 RC4 that is included so you should be able to install themes.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

**** UPDATE - This is too easy!!! if you want to load a GUI interface check out this thread http://forum.voodooprojects.org/index.php/topic,996.0.html

I had my directory structure wrong, has to be extra/themes/default or whatever the theme directory name is

I've already tried 4 different themes out

Hey guys, I have a question, I have yet to build finish my Hackintosh, and looking for wireless USB adapters, I found some but most,if not all supports to Leopard, and some doesn't even state, If I just buy 1 that supports Leopard, but doesn't have Snow leopard drives, will it work? Cause I have mobile broadband and it states it works for 10.4 and 10.5 and I unknowingly plug it into 10.6 and it works

I have the same issue with my Gigabyte G41-ES2L. I updated to 10.6.2 and also tried 10.6.3. I looked in Sys Preferences - sound but it says there are no audio devices. According to System Profiler, it sees an audio device but it doesn't see any inputs.

On 10.6.2 and 10.6.3 it just displays:

Intel High Definition Audio:

Device ID: 0x1458A002

Audio ID: 887

However on 10.6, it displays this:

Intel High Definition Audio:

Device ID: 0x1458A002

Audio ID: 887

Available Devices:

Speaker:

Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack

Internal Microphone:

Connection: Internal

External Microphone:

Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack

Line In:

Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack

Headphone:

Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack

S/P-DIF Out:

Connection: Combo

S/P-DIF In:

Connection: Combo

What's weird is if I use SuperDuper to clone my 10.6 install and boot off of it, there is no audio as well. It's an exact clone of my main drive with no updates.

I'll stick with 10.6 for now since it works flawlessly. However, it would be nice to be able to use the latest.

Thanks for your work mrjanek! I sent you a donation. So should everyone else! You saved hundreds building a hackintosh so a few bucks ain't gonna kill you :)

Hi mrjanek

I have just rebuilt a spare hard drive 500 Gig using Kakewalk 2.1 (CD Version)

Updated to 10.6.3

Applied KakewalkBoot.mpkg (in CD)

Re-Booted

No Sound ???

the Motherboard is EP45T-UD3LR

I hope this is helpfull ( i Would like the sound to work)

Yours Ray

In ##### you use Tony's theme installer found in Extras not the actual bootloaders under Chameleon. Then you just swap the default theme for one of your choosing this is my favourite. You can have multiple themes in the folder but then you have to change the playlist, I'm too lazy to do that so I store them else where and just drop in the one I want to use and change the folder name to default.

Did you try and download the new Kakewalk bootloader update v 2.1 and install it on your hard drive? That might fix your sound. don't download the cd only the bootloader from the first post on this thread. Good luck, let us know if it helped.

Hi, I have one of the supported mobos, used another tutorial not involving kakewalk to get snow leopard installed. Everything works great except i still have to use the cd to boot initially. how can i use kakewalk , or can i to get it to boot to the snow leopard drive? In the 2.0 zip i see a folder with my mobo name and a boot folder in that etc. Is there some install package i run? thanks in advance.

I am in the same boat and I bought one from here.

They guarantee it to work and i got the 150n for around $45. Arrives today so i will know soon enough. They offer full money back and he said ( i have a macbook) it will of course run off of either which might be handy but they will be compatible and supposed to be very quick.

That's the same one that I ended up using too. ;)

I'm potentially having a performace issue. I was comparing Cinebench results over at mac rumors forum with your Hack with basically the same setup. My scores in Windows 7 seemed correct when campared to your scores but my scores in OSX were way off both FPS and the CPU scores should have been faster than yours by a slim margin but instead were 40% lower.

Maybe I need a kext or something?? I tried lowering my machine to stock setting and got basically the same score as before so something is a bottleneck within OSX and not the machine. I'm not sure if it is just GL related or not.

Any suggestions?

Do you mind sharing how your system is setup with kext? I'm assuming you used Kakewalk to install like I did.

I downloaded the 2.0 bootloader and ran it by clicking the mpkg file, selected my motherboard, G41M-ES2L. Restarted it and same thing. No audio device found.... I think my mobo uses the ALC887 chip.

I couldn't find the 2.1 bootloader. If I use the .app to create an ISO, for some odd reason the G41M-ES2L doesn't show up as an option to install the fix. However, the .mpkg has it as a selection.

*** Edit,

I found the 2.1 bootloader now, it's here: http://cl.ly/BIo/content. the on eon the 1st page points to 2.0. I'll give it a go tonight.
