Hi folks!

(i will post this here too, since i don´t know how many of you will read it in the new forum...)

just updated to 10.6.4 using the combo update. everything works fine except for USB audio.

first i need to say that onboard audio has also not worked before 10.6.4, i was not exchanging any of the AppleHDA extensions since there was no need for me to use the onboard audio because i´m using the "old" apple usb speakers. they always worked fine until 10.6.4.

so whats wrong here now?

If you have never gotten the sound to work right, the kext your using may not be right.

Also the USB audio is sometimes doesn't work right but this may be due to again a kext not functioning properly. It's very rare that this happens but I used to use a Logitech USB adapter for sound cause of the clarity but that was before snow leopard.

However, if your using old Apple USB speakers which I only know one type of. The USB speakers can only be used with one type of Apple computer. Just like how in the VERY old days apple made a Apple computer with a special CRT monitor to be bought with two pillar type speakers that mount to the CRT monitor. In which the computer itself had a BOSE subwoofer in the computer with a special card that could only be used on that computer with special speakers made by BOSE on the CRT monitor.

I've been running Snow Leopard (installed via Kakewalk) on a EP45-UD3R with an Intel Core 2 Quad for a while now, and I'm noticing that my computer is running too hot.

Originally the CPU was running at 65-75 Celsius, which was dangerously hot and was causing crashes, but I just added new thermal paste and reseated my CPU's heatsink, and now it's running 55-65 Celsius.  That's better, and below the maximum temperature for the Core 2 Quad, but it's still 15 to 20 Celsius hotter than it should be.  If I boot into Windows 7, it runs at 40-50 Celsius, which sounds about right.

Does anyone here know what's up?  Is there something I need to do to my OS X install to make it run cooler?

Do you have any controls in your BIOS? Otherwise my best guess is you have a bad kernel for that processor.

Hey guys, just installed kakewalk successfully last night to the following build:

Gigabyte x58a-UD3R

i7 920

3x2gb Corsair Ram

1TB HD (samsung)

GTX 285 (ASUS)

I initially attempted installation using the USB method, which hung at "verifying DMI pool". The CD method proved successful using the retail 10.6.3 DVD! It was very straightforward and essentially at reboot after installing the bootloader, I had most things working except LAN (which I activated via system preferences and network to activate ethernet port), sound (which I'm aware requires kext support). Sleep actually works fine!

My main concern however is that my geekbench scores were very low (around 4800, not OC'd) and my cpu is recognized as 2ghz Xeon Quad. Is there an issue with the DSDT not recognizing the correct hardware on the x58a-UD3R and if so, should I be thinking about reinstalling SL using ##### + #####, which many ppl have found enables full CPU and kext functionality? Any input is appreciated and thanks so much for the great work Mr. Janek! I know you're working on the sound issues atm and I plan on donating once my hack is complete!

In SL you are probably running at max speed (speed stepping is not working I guess)

Have a look at voodoominipower ...and voodoomonitor.

I run my cpu currently over clocked to 3.3Ghz on my set-up (see sig) and are running on idle max 40, and under load not passing 55. I barley hear the fan on idle, and on load it speeds up ever so slightly.

I've been browsing the forums for the best method of installing snow leopard, and I intend to use this method as my motherboard is on the list. I have a gigabyte ex58 ud3r motherboard, 8 gigs of ram, and 2 gtx 260s. Will the booter automatically detect the graphics cards that I don't have to mess around with the os so it doesnt crash upon start?

So I just built a machine to use kakewalk on, and its based on a p55m-ud2 mobo

So I went through all the steps and i can get to the part where it says insert the snow leopard dvd

It registers it as the snow leopard install dvd, I press enter and then it pauses and says

Mach-0 file has bad magic number

Mach-0 file has bad magic number

Any ideas what im doing wrong? The cd is 10.6.3 and there is nothing whatsoever on the hard drive right now. All the other instructions to that point I have followed and checked again

My current setup:

i7 930

x58a-ud7

6gb dominator gt

asus xnoar d2x

3x gtx 280

I have tried kakewalk both dvd and usb method, ##### and Empire EFI.

All of them won't get me past the apple loading screen.

I think it's my graphics card/sound card.

Since I'm using water cooling, it won't be practical to remove them.

Is there anyway I can disable PCI-Express slots or is there another solution?

Try typing -x and hitting enter at the boot prompt. This should take you into the desktop in safe mode and allow you to add drivers for your cards in E/E, then repair permissions with disk utility so you can boot normally.

Hi XxL1Lm1kxX,

I suggest you to keep out two of your graphic cards.

I guess that it would be best to make the initial install with only one.

But, I'm not an expert.

Force empty trash:

I downloaded an app to convert flv to mp4s and it messed up my hackintosh (somehow it turned all the invisible things on, "broke" finder, couldn't open up certain apps, couldn't empty trash...) and did a wipe and reinstall it got so bad. However, I still cannot empty the trash. I get

"The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003)."

every time. How can I force empty the trash? Holding option didnt work and neither did secure empty. There is around 200gb of stuff in there that I really want to delete.

My ancient Cube USB speakers choked on the 10.6.4 update. The fix was to swap back to the 10.6.3 version of AppleUSBAudio.kext (v2.6.8).

Have you tried any of these methods?

I'm, finally, building my first hackintosh.

I've got a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 motherboard which according to the manual provides either AC'97 or HD Audio via the "front header connector". My case, Antec P183, also supports either AC'97 or HD Audio (both 10 pin adapters are wired). Which one works best with OS X and Kakewalk?

Should I connect the AC'97 or HD Audio 10 pin connector to the 10 pin header block on the motherboard?

Thanks.

I'm having issues with my ep45-ud3r.

1. I cannot boot from a usb thumb drive for some reason so I'm using he cd method.

2. When I boot from the kakewalk cd I get 4 EBIOS errors, device not mounted stuff. I think it does work though.

3. the last part of step 3 says insert your BootCD...is that the Kakewalk cd??

4. When I do insert the kakewalk CD nothing happens. it sits on the screen asking me to hit f5.

thanks

Hi all,

I've got the following for my Hackint0sh:

GA X58A-UD3R (Rev 1)

i7 930

DDR3 3x2 Go 10666 Corsair

Sapphire HD Radeon 4890 New Edition

HDD 150Go WD Raptor WD1500ADFS Sata II

SSD Crucial RealSSD C300 64 GB Sata III

Belkin mini Bluetooth USB EDR 2.1

Apple Magic Mouse

Apple Wireless Keyboard

Logitech mouse and wireless keyboard with USB receiver.

I've used Kakewalk 2.2 USB stick method (http://puru.se) with EX58A-UD7 since X58A-UD3R as mentionned here didn't work.

Installation worked like a charm onto 150 Go WD Raptor, thanks to mrjanek.

Update with 10.6.4 combo.

Installed Netkas QE_CI exotic cards patch for 10.6.4 (http://netkas.org) for ATI Radeon 4890.

First issue is wireless and bluetooth keyboard, they are activated by OS X, so to modify bios i'm obliged to use Logitech keyboard..

Second issue is that SSD connected to port GSATA3_6 onto the motherboard (Sata III 6 Gb/s, controlled by Marvell 9128) is shown as external drive (orange icon).

Bios is set as follow:

ICH SATA Control Mode : AHCI

GSATA 6_7/IDE Controller : Enabled

GSATA 6_7/IDE Ctrl Mode : AHCI

SATA3 Firmware Selection : OnChip

GSATA 8_9/IDE Controller : Disabled

I've used SuperDuper to clone WD Raptor to SSD, both are working fine, but booting device is the one selected within the bios, booting device selection within Mac OS X System Preferences is useless.

I've run XBench mainly for HDD tests, here attached are the results, on left side is my MacPro 1.1, middle is Hackint0sh with WD Raptor and right is Hackint0sh with SSD Sata III.

I believe that SSD results are corresponding to SATA III transfert rates :

Sequential read (256K blocks) = 298,48 MB/sec for a maximum of 355 MB/s (Crucial specifications)

Sequential write (4K blocks) = 83,09 MB/sec for a maximum of 70 MB/s (Crucial specifications)

Thanks.

I'm getting ready to install OS X / Kakewalk. My new GA-EX58-UD5 motherboard is running BIOS version F7. Gigabyte's website has version F12 available for download. What version is the DSDT file in Kakewalk created for?

Thanks.
