backhandbill
I've tested the G41M-ES2L package: - installed a fresh SL and updated to 10.6.3 - run the new package - sound does not work (hardware info is displayed correctly in system profiler, but no input/output devices) - found AppleHDA.kext (modified?) 1.7.9 in /S/L/E - deleted LegacyHDA888b.kext in /E/E and replaced it with LegacyHDA (from Kakewalk 2.2 install package) - run Kext Util, rebooted - sound works Seems the 888b.kext is the culprit. Thanks for your efforts, Skid Much Thanks -I followed your instructions kind of and sound now works! - installed a fresh SL and updated to 10.6.3 - sound does not work (hardware info is displayed correctly in system profiler, but no input/output devices) - run the new package displayed (GigabyteG41MES2l.pkg) - hardware info now not correctly displayed in system profiler - there was no AppleHDA.kex on my system - deleted LegacyHDA888b.kext in /E/E and replaced it with LegacyHDA (from Kakewalk 2.2 install package) - run Kext Util, rebooted - sound still didn't work - I then ran 10.6.2 applehdainstaller.pkg - sound now work great - thanks again for you efforts - backhandbill

JBLanteigne
Hi, Thanks for this it seems awesome. I'm trying the usb method. I got my dvd image on the thumb drive but when I try to install kakewalk on it.. the install can't finish. I have a EP45-DS3R so I'm giving it a try with the EP45-DS3L seem they are about the same.. but I can't even get it installed. Help plz. I tried installing the EP45-UD3R (over my failed install of the DS3L) and it worked.. not sure if the install will work tho since I think my mobo is closer to ther DS3L EDIT: Apparently the UD3R should work with the DS3R... when I tried to install the bootloaded worked, I saw the gray screen with white apple logo (edit2: it's actually gray apple on white bg) then when it wanted to load I got a black screen with white squares/lines on it. My guess is that I'd need support for my ATI 3870, not sure how to get this. Also, this might be because I installed kakewalk UD3R OVER a failed install of DS3L... so.. what do you thinK? VinP14
My GA-X58A-UD3R has not LAN off the install where ##### had LAN, as for installing the bootloader there was no option for the X58A Boards, so which one do I select? IDLauncher
I'm being a wee bit lazy, but can anyone tell me if it's possible to get SL running with an ATI 4850?Thanks I'm also curious about this. I've an ATI Radeon 4800 Series in my potential Hackintosh (If I had the box for the card around I'd be more specific. I'm just listing what the Win7 device manager says.) I tried the legacy ISO to get SL installed and it's the most succesful method I've used so far... Which doesn't say much, because using boot-132 I get to "Loading Darwin/x86" and then it just stays there forever. But with Kakewalk, I get all the way to the grey apple logo booting screen before it freaks out and leaves me a bunch of weird pixelated noise on the bottom of my screen. I figure that was a sign my graphics card probably isn't compatible, or will need additional work to get working, though I only barely know what I'm doing so hey, whatev. But I'm also running an unlisted Gigabyte motherboard which could also be a problem. My specs are as follows: Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-EP45T-USB3P Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo 3.00GHz Video Card - ATI Radeon 4800 Series EDIT: 4850 (RV770) according to the program linked below by garmanicus Memory - 4GB Of Ram I'd love to know how compatible that setup is. Greg Neumann
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR (ALC888 AUdio) Working with KakeWalk and Snow Leopard. Never normally post to such forums but am heavy user! Having used Kakewalk to install SL on my GA-EP45-UD3LR motherboard with Intel Quad Core Q9550 and 1066MHZ DDR2 (4GB) with NVidia GT9600 graphics, I spent DAYS trying to get the damned audio to work. Well here's how I (finally) did it. Standard Kakewalk install. Using 2.3 ironically audio does play during installs but disappears immediately the bootloaded is run and the 'motherboard-specific' kexts are installed by the bootloader. Next, I installed the AppleHDA.kext and HDAenabler.kext (See below) using b7 kext installer. This is the Voodoo 64-bit version and Audio now plays though the device is called 'unknown'. Sure beats the prospect of buying a USB sound card! Sound_install_in_SLE_using_Kext_helper_b7.zip

nikjenikje
Hi! It's been several months now and my Hackintosh is still running perfectly thanks to Kakewalk! Thanks so much for this and know I've donated a few bucks! (Not to brag, more to give an incentive for others to donate as well, since Mr. Janek certainly deserves so.) I have one issue though. It seems my USB connectors don't give enough power out (but I don't know this for sure, just that I have a problem). I've recently bought a Line 6 POD Studio UX-2 which is an external sound card and recording interface for guitars and vocals. When I connect it to my iBook G4, it works perfectly. When I connect it to this pc (hackintosh) and boot Windows instead of Mac OSX, it works perfectly. When I boot into OSX however, the device does not initiate. That is, the device manager that came with it won't even acknowledge that it's connected at all. Does anyone have (or did anyone have) a similar problem with USB devices? All other USB devices run fine, but those all have an external AC adapter, or a low voltage requirement. Please help! I wouldn't want to have thrown away another 180 euro's for nothing.. Then again.. still cheaper in all than buying a real mac. Off topic: Mark my words though.. my official Mac time will come! It's just a matter of .. err.. money!? If you see any reason why I should receive donations, they're welcome. I don't though.. I'll just have to work hard for my money. Thanks, Nik. I will take a screenshot if nobody believes me that there is no X58A Bootloaders for it to run off the HDD One of the problems people run in to is that rev.0 of a board may have driver A and rev.1 may have driver B Your board is such a one: Rev. 1.0 has 8111D and Rev. 2.0 has 8111E. Which board do you have? If 8111D, you can use the same driver as the GA-X58A-UD7 if. If 8111E you might have to get a PCI card. That said, there might be a fix. No guarantees, but if you go here: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloads...GetDown=false#7 and look at the list of Realtek drivers, the 8111E is in the list. Look at the very last entry; there are 3 sites to download 8111E drivers for Mac 10.4 and 10.5. If I had your mobo, with nothing to loose and possible onboard NIC to gain, I would download the driver, put it in E/E, repair permissions and reboot just to see if it will work. If you do try it, please post your results. If it does work, a lot of people with your same board will be VERY happy Edit - you might check here - Phorte got his working: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...hp/t219189.html

But in my install testing area It's awkward to me that this is not working. I don't need it, but the odds make me wonder if something else is up I will see how those links help after running OSx86 tools and Kext Utilities EDIT: Quicktime does no play since the 10.6.3 update. Phorte
so what were you saying about no X58?!?! fukn LOL... and Going Bald is spot on about the LAN differences between the two revisions of the X58A-UD3R... as noted in my other thread, Rev2.0 uses the Realtek 8111E drivers that are located on the Realtek site. unfortunately though, Realtek won't be releasing 64bit versions of said drivers so atm, with my rev2.0 board, I can't run 64bit kernel. you might have more luck with your rev1.0 board and the more common 8111D.
