cerberus100
Yep, you got it. Here is a shot of the E/E folder of the test drive. Since I used KU to install the sound kext, it went to S/L/E, but you can out it in E/E instead and it should work. Repair permissions with your favorite app, reboot and check your preferences/sound. I don't have the speakers to do it, but it looks as if you can even get 5.1/7.1 sound with a proper midi setup. see screens ---------------- Much thanks for your advice! After many days I finally have a fully functioning 10.6.3 system with audio. I achieved success using the Kext Uility approach to put AppleHDA.kext in S/L/E. And for those that had issues with Quicktime not launching a video in 10.6.3 I can say that getting the audio working solves that, at least for the mp4's I briefly tested. I first tried the E/E approach but didn't get that to work. I dragged the AppleHDA.kext to the E/E and an "authenticate" window appeared to which I entered my password. Then I launched KU to repair permissions, rebooted but unfortunately didn't see devices in Sound Preferences/Output. I didn't remove any of the kexts already in the E/E and maybe that's the problem. Anyway I'm ecstactic having audio and I'll research the E/E method further.

When you put the AppleHDA.kext in E/E did you delete the one 10.6.3 installed in S/L/E? If you did not delete it, that's probably why it didn't work in E/E. Now, before anything goes Blooey!, use CCC to backup to another disk (or Time Machine if you would rather) and have fun! And if you have some time and want to test it, look in your S/L/E folder. You should have the AppleHDA.kext you installed and the AppleHDA.kext that 10.6.3 update installed with a .bak added on to it. Leave it as it is and move your AppleHDA.kext to E/E and repair permissions and reboot. Theoretically, sound should still work. If it does't, well, that's what the CCC or TimeMachine backup is for! Don't you love an OS you can play with?!

This should be installed on a machine that is ALREADY running Snow Leopard. Ok, I tried the x58a-ud3r on my 2nd boot partition (clone of my main boot partition) and it kernel panics on me. Here's some background: - Although I have basic sound already working, been using either grom's dsdt or as of the other day, paulo's dsdt, I certainly want to help in making things smoother.. - I did update osx to the 10.6.3 audio driver prior to running the package you posted to try to have it in as close to a standard install as possible prior to trying it. - The boot loader IS still running from my main HD then selecting the 'OSX Backup' partition to boot from. (Maybe this is the reason, no idea) If you would liek for me to try something specific, let me know. EDIT: I also tried just using, the KakewalkBoot 2.2 to get it back to normal, but same issue. Just noticed that there is NO Extensions.mkext in the Extra folder on the 'OSX Backup' partition, so that would be my first guess. I'm guessing this would work smoother with only the 1 drive installed, maybe I can try that later. Or is there a way to rebuild the cache on the other partition when not booted from it by chance? macke
first: mrjanek- great to have you back here! after working for some hours with my system (see sig) some issues showed up: -pci slot (not pci e) is not recognized -esata (connected to front panel) doesn't work -external firewire behaves sloppy (stops working after some time) anyone with an idea, pls? -external firewire seem to have a problem with the energy saving settings- when the ext fw hd is put to sleep it doesn't come back... i work around this prob with setting hd sleep to 'never'. -nobody else with the problem of none working pci? this bothers me most. mr janek- maybe you could have look? cheers anyway: macke
Jade Tiki Puku
Thanks for all the hard work people, I am grateful. I have a G41M-ES2L with a C2D 4300 and a Samsung F3 500GB HD. I too have a sound problem, if I open system preferences/sound there are no devices available. I have backed up from Time Machine and installed all all the drivers I have found on this thread but still no sound and no sound devices. I do hope I don't have to reinstall, has anyone any ideas? blackstripes
I've noticed the FAQ references boot0 errors when you have partitions larger than 500GB. Does this only affect your boot partition, or can you not have ANY partitions larger than 500GB? I currently have two concatenated 1 TB drives that I would like to continue to use as media storage... germanicus
i am sure it is not 500gb but 1tb which gives boot errors. i have myself a 750gb bootdisk (one partition with kakewalk 2.2). skidman
I've just built a package for G41M-ES2L that I'd like someone to test and report on. The issue it should solve is sound. Here's a link to the download. This should be installed on a machine that is ALREADY running Snow Leopard. I've tested the G41M-ES2L package: - installed a fresh SL and updated to 10.6.3 - run the new package - sound does not work (hardware info is displayed correctly in system profiler, but no input/output devices) - found AppleHDA.kext (modified?) 1.7.9 in /S/L/E - deleted LegacyHDA888b.kext in /E/E and replaced it with LegacyHDA (from Kakewalk 2.2 install package) - run Kext Util, rebooted - sound works Seems the 888b.kext is the culprit. Thanks for your efforts, Skid

Ok, I tried it on my primary HD and the same thing occurs, kernel panic 'thread wants ...' forgot the rest, will check on next reboot. So I'll have to try a fresh install of SL. EDIT: I almost forgot, my new HD, which happens to be my primary boot, is on the fritz, so I'll have to hold off on trying a fresh install of SL for the moment, sigh. So am I free to use, say a 400GB drive, to boot from, and then leave my two 1TB drives as they are? Or will I run into issues? You should have no issues there. I have (2) 1TB drives in my setup as follows: D1: 100gb OSX, 200gb Users, 700gb Data D2: 100gb OSX Backup, 200gb Windows, 700gb Media I have my user account on the Users partition, so I can boot from either boot partition and still have everything running. skidman
so, i figured it out: i found this thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1304603 and ran the shell script. after rebooting the airport was available again and i can connect to my router! so everything is ok now (finally!) btw, the pci-e firewire card is plugged in the mainboard, too. both is running now like it should (ok, didn´t try firewire yet, but it shows up in the network settings). Nice find, germanicus. Tomorrow I'll give my PCI Wifi-Card a shot and report ASAP.
apple_core
My package personalized for Gigabyte UD7 X58A istaller...method USB Magnifico10 what have you done to customize this for the GA-X58A-UD7? Jeff.H
So am I free to use, say a 400GB drive, to boot from, and then leave my two 1TB drives as they are? Or will I run into issues? I have a WD Black 1TB drive that is just one partition of all available space. It's GUID and journaled but not case sensitive. It is my main boot drive and I have no problems whatsoever with it. The only time I have gotten a boot0 error is after the initial install when OSX reboots itself at the end of the install and I didn't catch it in time to put the Kakewalk boot CD back in and it tries to boot to my drive without the boot loader installed. I have an EP45-UD3L if that matters, but for the HDD I am not so sure. As for the sound issues, 2.2 works fine with my 10.6.0 install disc, but as soon as 10.6.3 is installed, sound is broken and is improperly listed as 16 in the profiler. 2.1 is also broken for me. The easy fix for that is to use the 2.0 boot loader and the AppleHDA.kxt dated March 27, 2010 that is listed many times earlier in this thread. I installed that after 10.6.3 using kext utility and sound works fine as well as being properly listed in the profiler as 888. I have put them in my FTP space here for your convenience. http://myweb.cebridge.net/jeffh/HDA.zip One other thing to note, is that my on board ethernet does not work at Gig speed unless I manually set it to that and then full duplex flow control is not an option, just half and full duplex with no flow control. Gentleman, you must remove Apple HDA of the 10.6.3 and put Apple HDA of the 10.6.2. for to make to work the audio… is only this the problem….. Ciao a tutti.. andy2cool
Found my problem with dragging and not dropping! istinkles
so i wanna all the same hardware from lifhackers guide, except use the ud3l instead of the ud3p. cakewalk would work just fine for that, and everything would work like a charm. hockeylove
i have G41M-ES2L board and i was able to get sound to work using Kakewalk 2.2 on 10.6.3. Everything is working well except for sleep. My computer totally shuts of when it goes to sleep automatically or i manually put it to sleep from the apple logo on the task bar. Is there a glitch in the package or do i have to remove something?
