Tom Sawyer
Just wanted to drop a quick line to all who have contributed so much to this thread and getting things going so well on my hack. My needs have changed of late and I need a laptop so picked up a used MBP which I think will work nicely. Unfortunately I don't have the funds to have both so I'm going to part out the working hackintosh in my Sig. I'll post in the marketplace in case anyone here is interested in the parts and will go eBay with the items tomorrow night. Again, many thanks to all the contributors here, this has been a very fun project for sure!!! All the best, Tom Sawyer
ollvin
im in the exact same boat as you (read up a few posts - i've mentioned it multiple times now). also, you need to update your signature to show you have the ex58a-ud3r board. is yours rev1.0 or rev2.0? tom sawyer on here has rev 1.0 and he got sleep working but my newer rev 2.0 has problems. ive tried using the sleepenabler.kext (multiple versions) and each one will go to sleep but when waking up, it doesnt come back fully (monitor still asleep, firewire audio won't reinitialise). so im sitting around patiently waiting/researching for an answer to this sleep thing too Thanks for the info, Phorte. I updated my signature. My MB is a X58a one (my bad), rev1.0, so it seems not to be a rev matter. I tried sleepenabler 10.6.3 30-03-2010 given by ProjectY but it didn't fix the problem. The behavior is not the same as yours, though, on my hack waking up completely reboot, each time. Waiting and seeing too...
Phorte
Again, many thanks to all the contributors here, this has been a very fun project for sure!!! sad to see you go mate! youve been very helpful on here. ps. join the aussie mactalk forums I updated my signature. The behavior is not the same as yours, though, on my hack waking up completely reboot, each time. actually it is rev specific because tom sawyer (as i said earlier) has the same board/revision as you and this is how he got sleep to work: "I do have sleep working, but I had to remove NullCPU kext to get it to work." i dont even have that kext so it must not have been included with rev2.0 ex58a-ud3r boards

Phorte
strange - i wonder why he'd have that kext then. well, you're in the same boat as me then!! ps. mine just restarts after i try to wake up just like you too. my behaviour where it starts up without monitor signal or firewire audio reinitialising happens after i attempt to use sleepenabler kexts. matatiouz
did a clean install on a Gigabyte G41M-ES2L today. Installed 10.6.0 using kakewalk 2.2. no sound. then upgraded to 10.6.3 via software update, no sound. This is just a test install on a system that is already running 10.6.2 installed with kakewalk 2.0 with sound working. i was testing a new install on a separate disk with this newer kakewalk to make sure everything went ok before doing it to my stable os. does anyone have any ideas? the updater says that the sound is fixed with G41M-ES2L in 10.6.3. From what i can tell this is not the case.
digitalsoul4
2.Quicktime (H264) not workingAlso have the strange problem that new QuickTime X does not play H264 files- when it opens you can click on play but does not play - is this connected. The old QuickTime7 plays the file- but after pressing PLAY it takes a few seconds until it starts. Is it sound related that QuicktimeX does not start? (Also in preview mode video is not playing) Has anyone found a solution to this? i am using this machine to edit video and right now PremierCS5 wont play a .mov QTX wont play a .mov (havent loaded FCS yet, but i assume the same issue) i am screwed until i resolve... everything else seem to work though, so for its been rock&roll... thanks in advance for any help

If I stay on 10.6.2 Quicktime launches a video as it should. I too have not been able to get sound operational yet and I'm still looking for a detailed description how to resolve this problem on my X58a-UD7. While getting sound with 10.6.3 would be ideal, I'd be happy getting analog audio with 10.6.2. I've researched ##### and other methods and apparently they can work but I've not yet seen a detailed enough description of the steps and required tools to correctly complete the steps. somedudecro
Apparently, I'm doing something horribly wrong. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.<br /><br />I've killed two Hard drives trying to get everything up and running and am hoping some one might have a clue of what I may be doing wrong as I'm totally new to Hackintosh install.<br /><br />They were both Caviar Black HDs, the first one 640GB the second 500GB. So then went back to Caviar black and after attempting to install 10.6.3 combo update kept getting I/O errors or something as HD performance was erratic and eventually disk utility started to tell me the drive had a SMART hardware failure and I couldn't do anything to it. Magnifico10 in his post #2695 a couple of pages back posted a link to an earlier version (USB method) with a sound kext file to install after updating to 10.6.3. He even includes KextUtility to install it. It works. I downloaded it and installed it on an empty HD, updated to 10.6.3, installed Kext Utility, drug the kext file onto the KU icon and dropped it. KU installed it and repaired permissions, I rebooted, opened sound in preferences, selected interior speaker and SOUND is working. (From the bottom center lime green jack anyway) haven't tried the others. If you don't mind doing a clean install AGAIN (how many times does this make, huh? huh?) this might solve your problem. If you need more memory just add additional drives. I recommend my SSD drive to boot off of, but it is expensive. I would otherwise go with a 250gb barracuda for your boot. Do yourself a massive favor and use a UD5 mobo, it is definitely the easiest to work with. Newegg is out but you can get it on buy.com. I don't know what your budget is, but I can tell you I heavily researched my specs and installation was a breeze and runs stable. The only irritating things are the things associated with hackintoshes in general.
idezine123
Ok guys... I can't seem to find anything on the GA-EP45T-USB3P. I have installed 10.6.3 with Kakewalk using the GA-EP45-UD3L setting. Everything (Graphics, LAN, FIREWIRE) works OOB with the exception of the Audio. I'll be damned if I don't know what the hell I am doing from here. My gear is as follows: Mobo: GA-EP45T-USB3P Intel Core2Duo 2.52 Video: XFX Geforce nVidia 8500GT 512 4gbs of RAM (1066) Hard Drive SATA 500GB with GUID partition DVD: SATA based Keyboard & Mouse both are USB based Does anyone have any luck with the audio on this board? It's ALC889 based. tony

skidman
Hi matatiouz Re apply Kakewalkboot2.2 from www.puru.se to the booting drive. Good Luck Ray It does not work Ray (Believe me, I've been through this). After applying the 2.2 Bootloader you will find a new Legacy888b.kext in /E/E, but AppleHDA.kext in /S/L/E is gone. And because the Legacy.kext is only an injector (for AppleHDA) there is no way to fix sound on G41M-ES2L using the 2.2 Bootloader. The OS will not not even detect the audio hardware correctly, because there is no driver anymore (Bummer!). At present the only possible fix for the ALC888b/887 chip, as far as I know, is to use the 1.7.9 AppleHDA.kext that shipped with 10.6.2 (install with #####) and to use the LegacyHDA.kext that ships with Kakewalk 2.1 boot or Kakewalk 2.2 install package as injector. First I installed a fresh 10.6.0 using KW2.2 on my GA X58A-UD7 (bios F6), then using combo update updated to 10.6.3. and rebooted. Then I downloaded Magnifico's file, unzipped and placed the Kext Utility on the OSX desktop, then dragged the AppleHDA.kext on top of the KU icon, then entered the user pass and it successfully ran to completion. I rebooted SL looked at Sound preferences/Output but there's still no devices showing. If I examine the hardare profile it appears to recognize available devices with Device ID: 0x1458A102 and Audio ID: 66. But still nothing shows in Sound Preference. I probably missed a step. Was KW supposed to be installed a second time on the OSX boot drive after the 10.6.3 update, and if so, before or after dragging the AppleHDA.kext to the KU? Download the files from magnifico10's post and prep the usb stick - i.e restore the install image to the usb, run the downloaded kakewalk pointed at the usb stick. Then do a fresh install. Update to 10.6.3 combo. Then, either install kext utility and drag the audio kext onto the ku icon and drop it to let ku install it to S/L/E or just put it in E/E and repair permissions. I dropped it on ku because this was just a test and not a "permanent" install. Either place will work, it just depends on whether you want vanilla install. germanicus
hi ray, in fact the wifi card is in pci slot 2. pci slot 1 is empty, in pci-e x16 slot is the graphics card, in pci-e x1 slot number 2 is the firewire card. so, i figured it out: i found this thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1304603 and ran the shell script. after rebooting the airport was available again and i can connect to my router! so everything is ok now (finally!) btw, the pci-e firewire card is plugged in the mainboard, too. both is running now like it should (ok, didn´t try firewire yet, but it shows up in the network settings). Here is a shot of the E/E folder of the test drive. Since I used KU to install the sound kext, it went to S/L/E, but you can out it in E/E instead and it should work. Repair permissions with your favorite app, reboot and check your preferences/sound. I don't have the speakers to do it, but it looks as if you can even get 5.1/7.1 sound with a proper midi setup. see screens

apple_core
I will take a look at the audio issues today and solve them. I've been away for awhile because of a big project at the university. Now that it's over I have more time to spend on Kakewalk again. Welcome back! I hope your semester went well! A lot of people are hoping you can solve the audio problems on the GA-X58A-UD3R, GA-X58A-UD5 and GA-X58A-UD7 boards. I'm hoping you do! I'm about ready to buy the GA-X58A-UD5 myself. I think a user, Magnifico, has done some work with your KW2.2 and modded it to fix the audio problems. Another user, x.di, has supposedly done a LOT of good work with the audio for these boards. I posted a link to his thread a dozen messages back (or so.) Please if you would take a look at what x.di has done. He says that his work is excellent and offers the best sound quality sound, etc. Thanks a million. I will donate as soon as I buy the motherboard. [edit] This is the link to what x.di has done for sound: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1419945 [edit 2] In post #2695 magnifico10 provides a link to the install that was referenced a couple of posts ago.
