ALso my i7 turns up as a quad core Xeon is that normal?

Yes, it is only cosmetic, you could do some hardcore googling to find out how to change the processor name. I have done it once, and I gotta say, its not worth the time

Yep, I've got the same board and have been using SL for a few weeks. Audio didn't work after installing and updating but was able to grab a kext from kexts.com and now I'm just peachy.

Please help. I have been trying since yesterday to install on my EP45-UD3L to no avail.

My specs:

Intel Core2Quad Q8200

EP45-UD3L

4GB OCZ RAM

Galaxy GeForce GT 230 1024MB

Seagate 250Gig HDD

I set up the Bios like I'm supposed to, AHCI, HPET 64 Bit, S3(STR)

I'm using the retail disk that came with my MacBook, SL 10.6.1

Kakewalk loads but when I insert the disk and it loads it says that SL cannot be installed on this computer. Is it my system specs? Or am I doing something wrong?

I also had some problems trying to install the "disc way" so I went for the USB option and all went very smotth after that.

But I really need help with fixing sound, please anyone help! :(

X58-UD7 is my motherboard.

Hmm ok so the USB method goes like this right? Restore image of DVD to Thumb drive. Boot PC with Kakewalk, select USB with OSx image hit enter (at this point I get the same error as with disk)

or

am I supposed to reboot and hit f12 for boot order at startup and make it boot from USB-HDD?

Thanks for your response.

you will need the retail version of SN, the version that came with your Mac Book may be the issue, do some searching, some have said they were able to make the version of SN that came with their Mac Books work but I had no success with it. Just go buy the retail version $29 and be done with it.

Ok so I tried something a little different. I installed 10.6.1 unto my usb and booted through that with Kakewalk. So needless to say it is running slow and choppy. But I tried to install onto my internal HDD through this working OSx on my USB but I got the error cannot install on this machine. So now I'm using time machine to backup onto it and then I'm going to boot through kakewalk use the disc method and the restore method to see if I can restore the back onto that HDD thereby creating a working install in theory.... WE'll see. Wish me luck. LOL

PS I am typing this through OSX installed on my USB booted through Kakewalk on my system

Hmm well I thought about that too but what if that's not the problem? $29 dollars down the drain...

If this method I'm experimenting with doesn't work, then I will give that a whirl too.

Hi, desperately need help here. Have been trying to install SL here for quite awhile but to no avail.

When using the disc method, I was able to boot into kakewalk cd, but when after I changed to SL install disc and selected the disc, it showed "Mach-0 File has bad magic number" to the upper left hand corner of the screen and stays there.

My specs :

Motherboard : GA-P55-UD2

Processor : Intel Core-I5

Display Card : Ati Radeon HD 4830

4 gig ram

Thanks for any solutions.

Okay so that worked and 10.6.1 is now on my Seagate internal HDD. My little experiment was not the most elegant process but one that worked. So now I just gotta make sure everything else is running like sound. Ethernet is fine since I'm online now through SL typing this. And I need to figure out how to get it to boot without having to use Kakewalk. Time to hit the search bar.

what about 10.6.4? anyone tried updating?

I just updated my G41M-ES2L based machine to 10.6.4: KP upon boot, had to remove SleepEnabler from /E/E. Lost Audio Input/Output because the AppleHDA.kext in /S/L/E had been overwritten. Reinstalled AppleHDA 1.7.9 (from 10.6.2) with Kext Util. Sound works again (but audio hardware info in system profiler looks a bit strange). Everything else seems to work (haven't tested thoroughly, though).

Edit:Got sleep working again by putting SleepEnabler.kext back into /E/E, rebuilding kextcache, and editing com.Apple.boot.plist according to this post. My Kernel Flags string looks like this:

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>arch=x86_64 pmVersion=20</string>

Everything else is running smoothly.

RTM!! Restore image of DVD to thumb drive. Mount the Kakewalk package, double click on it and point it at the thumb drive and let it install. THEN you reboot. Enter bios and make sure the USB is the 1st drive in the boot order, f10 and save and let it boot up. If it fails to boot (usually hangs at Verifying DMI pool data, CTRL-ALT-DEL and this time F12 at the post screen and select the thumb drive to boot from. It should work.

Kakewalk is a simple method for installing Snow Leopard on a PC.

If you're happy with my work please consider donating :) Thanks a lot!

Compatible motherboards:

  • Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR
  • Gigabyte EP45T-UD3LR
  • Gigabyte EP45-UD3R
  • Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
  • Gigabyte EX58-UD5
  • Gigabyte EX58-UD3R

2. Restore the image to your thumb drive.

3. Run the "Kakewalk" installer. Point it to your thumb drive.

4. Reboot. Boot from your thumb drive. Install Snow Leopard.

5. You're up and running!

CD/DVD Method:

2. Boot from the disc. Follow onscreen instructions. Install Snow Leopard.

3. Install KakewalkBoot.pkg from BootCD

4. You're up and running!

DOWNLOAD KAKEWALK

Download this to get instructions on how to install Snow Leopard on your PC using Kakewalk.

DOWNLOAD BOOTLOADER

This is for those of you who have already installed Snow Leopard with Kakewalk and want to upgrade to the latest bootloader.

Kakewalk recent changes:

v2.2
- Added support for X58A-UD3R
- Fixed sound with G41M-ES2L in 10.6.3
- Fixed issues with X58A-UD7 (Orange HDDs, Sound)

v2.1
- Fixed sound for all ALC888 boards in 10.6.3
- KakewalkCD should now work in Leopard

v2.0
- Added support for EX58-UD4P
- Added AsereBLN Booter 1.1.9
- Fixed installation issues with P55M-UD2
- Removed IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext from multiple motherboards

I've used kakewalk to get to the point where I can use Snow Leopard on my EX58-UD5, i7 920, Nvidia 9500 GTX, and I'm really loving it. I think my ssd was the best choice of the whole thing...

But I have no Audio.

Now let me first say: I'm not afraid to learn. But I've spent most of the day trying to learn what a kext is, how it's properly installed, and come up with a lot of differing views and a whole lot of Kernel Panics. When I couldn't boot without a kernel panic, I just started over-- and I'm sure there was a way to fix it more simply but I didn't know it.

So, that said: I was wondering is my problem 10.6.4? I did a software update immediately after getting my first boot.

If so, is there a "kakewalk approved" method for taking care of that? I really loved your straightforward way of explaining things (although I must say that I would have loved to have known that I needed to let the BIOS know in the peripheral settings to change one setting to ACPI-- whatever that means-- so that the installer could see my internal hard drives, that was a long 3 hours... :) )

So that's my question... I'd love to find something as simple as kakewalk (meaning I just learned the word "kext" like 2 weeks ago, but still no nothing about EFI strings or any of the stuff that I probably should know) to keep myself current and able to do updates and keep my machine stable?

Just seconding Skidman's update to 10.6.4. I have the same mobo (G41M-ES2L), Palit 9500 GT, 4GB ram, E7500 installed using Kakewalk 2.0 and then updated with the 2.2 boot update. I don't believe I ever had sleepenabler in E/E on this machine and have no problems with sleep and restart/shutdown.

Reading Skidman's upgrade notes (thanks for the heads up by the way) I just made a backup copy of AppleHDA.kext from S/L/E, ran the 10.6.4 standalone update that I manually downloaded from the apple site. It ran fine, but obviously sound no longer worked after I restarted so I deleted AppleHDA.kext in S/L/E and used kext helper to replace the 'updated' (read: not working) AppleHDA.kext with the 1.7.4 version I had backed up using Kext Helper. Another restart and all is well. As far as I can tell sound continues to be the only thing that needs a little massaging on this rig to get going and it seems to be an easy fix. All other hardware/apps are functioning fine including QE/CI, networking, all resolution options (1900 x 1200 w/ landscape/portrait rotation options and mirroring) etc. :(

Many thanks again to Mr. Janek and all the others who have been provided help and tips along the way.

I just ran the 10.6.4 update on my EX58-UD3R, i7, 9800GT using the standalone update manually downloaded from Apple, and it seems to work just fine. The whole process took about 10 minutes.

By the way, I had never been able to get sound to work with this motherboard/processor and any version of Snow Leopard (replacing AppleHDA.kext gave me a kernel panic when I first set up my hackintosh, and I had to reload everything--- I probably did something wrong), HOWEVER, I have a Griffin iMic, which works easily without doing anything but plug it in and choose it for audio in and out in the preference pane.

I am curious, though, if anyone has figured out an easy way to make sound work using the onboard audio. Where do I find the 1.7.4 version of AppleHDA.kext, and how do I replace the current AppleHDA.kext using Kext Helper? I'd love to not be dependent on the iMic, though I have to admit it works pretty well as is and I don't want to risk another kernel panic.
